How We Tested the Products

Scroll to testing method
We gathered the 12 bestselling Camping Tables and put them through rigorous testing.
  1. Stability

    Test① Stability

Stability is the first thing you should look for in a camping table. We gave high scores to tables with a balanced center of gravity that didn’t wobble much and weren’t negatively affected when a lot of weight was placed on them. We also checked the following.Whether the legs were heavier than the tabletopThe frame structure of the legsWhether the legs and tabletop could lock in placeWhether a pencil placed on the table would roll off when the maximum load capacity was placed on the edge of the tableWhether the table flipped over when the maximum load was placed on the edge

  2. Construction

    Test② Construction

A camping table might be used in some rough conditions, so looking for one with a durable tabletop and legs is essential. Tables that withstood their listed load capacity and were resistant to heat, water, and scratches were evaluated highly. We checked how each table fared in the following situations. Whether the tabletop became warped under the weight of the maximum load capacityWhether the legs became warped under the weight of the maximum load capacityIf the tabletop scratched easilyIf the tabletop is made of a material that can deteriorate easilyIf the frame is made of a material that can deteriorate easilyWe checked each table's heat and water resistance using the following methods.HeatWe placed a 212-degree Fahrenheit skillet directly on the table and checked for deformation and color changesWaterWe poured 50 milliliters (about two ounces) of water on the table, left it there for three minutes, and checked if it seeped into the surface

  3. Portability

    Test③ Portability

You want your items for outdoor leisure to be as light and compact as possible. However, camping tables come in various sizes, so it can be hard to know the standard for portability. We evaluated how compact and light each table was using the following procedures.CompactnessWe calculated the ratio between the size when in use and when stored. The smaller the ratio was, the more compact it was relative to its size when in use.WeightWe weighed each table, with light tables getting higher scores.

  4. Ease of Setting Up

    Test④ Ease of Setting Up

The easier your table is to set up, the better. The number of parts and construction of the table can significantly influence this. We looked at the following points and found which products were quick and easy to set up for anyone.Setup processNumber of partsHow the legs are set upHow the legs and tabletop are put togetherHow the height is adjustedHow safe it is to set up (how likely you might be to sustain an injury such as having your finger pinched during setup)

  5. Features

    Test⑤ Features

Some camping tables have additional features that make them even more convenient. We looked for the following six features to see if the tables offered extra stability or other ways to use them.Whether its height can be adjustedIf it has a handleWhether or not it has a rackWhether or not it has a storage bagIf its legs can be adjusted preciselyIf it can connect to other tables

How to Choose a Camping Table - Buying Guide

Here are the points to remember when choosing the best camping table.

① Start With a Height-Adjustable Table

If you're in the market for your first camping table, we recommend a table where you can adjust the height of the legs. We will explain why we recommend these tables and introduce our favorite one.

Sit in Chairs or on the Ground, It's Your Choice!

Sit in Chairs or on the Ground, It's Your Choice!

Since you can adjust their height, you can use these tables in any situation. For example, while camping, you can raise it when cooking and eating and lower it when you want to use it in your tent. You can drop them low enough to use while sitting or lying down on a picnic blanket, making them perfect to use while lounging on a beach or lawn.

If you buy a fixed-height table, you’ll only be able to use it in certain situations, but if you go with an adjustable table, you only need to bring one table for every occasion.

Levers Make a Table Fully Adjustable

Levers Make a Table Fully Adjustable

There are various ways to adjust the legs, but lever-type tables are stable and easy to use. All you need to do is release the lever and pull out the legs, which doesn't take much strength. Additionally, you can use the lever to lock the legs wherever you want, making them exactly how tall you want.

Conversely, we found that the other types of tables required a lot of strength and effort to adjust. While buttons that lock into a hole in the leg make it easy to see the height, many are stiff and need some strength to operate. Screw-type legs must be twisted and pushed in one at a time, which is a hassle. Not being able to adjust the height easily can be more frustrating than you'd think. Lever-type adjustable-height tables let you avoid this problem, so we believe first-time buyers should go with one of these products.

We Found Tables Under 9 Pounds Relatively Light and Portable

We Found Tables Under 9 Pounds Relatively Light and Portable

You’ll have to carry the table by hand when walking to a campsite or park, so we recommend one that’s around nine pounds or less. Large camping tables weigh about 11 pounds, and some even weigh over 17 pounds. We found that tables around nine pounds are relatively light and can be carried in one arm without wearing you out. On the other hand, heavier tables put a lot of strain on the arms and may cause hand or shoulder soreness for people who lack physical strength. The heaviest ones are a burden, even for those with decent body strength.

Tables With Few Parts Are Quick and Effortless to Set Up

Tables With Few Parts Are Quick and Effortless to Set Up

Camping tables are set up in one of two ways: folding them out or putting them together. The ones you have to put together consist of a tabletop that can be rolled up to store that you spread over the legs. Ones that can be folded out are one piece that needs to be spread apart.

We found that tables with two or fewer parts didn’t take many steps to set up, so getting them ready didn’t take much time or effort. On the other hand, if there are five or more parts, each leg needs to be dealt with individually. These tables require a lot of steps to set up, and some aren’t very intuitive.

The Wide-N-Compact Camp Table by Portal Met All of Our Criteria

The Wide-N-Compact Camp Table by Portal Met All of Our Criteria

Of all the products we tested for this article, our favorite was the adjustable-height Portal camping table, a lever-type, relatively light at around nine pounds, and with few parts. This table can be set to whatever height you want and is quick to put together, as it only has two parts. On top of that, it only weighs about nine pounds, so it’s relatively easy for anyone to carry and can be used in various situations. We think you should consider this product when purchasing your first camping table.

② Full-Size Tables Are Great for Family Camping Trips

There are many camping tables with a fixed height that can’t be adjusted. Let’s look at the benefits of these tables and find the best of the bunch.

Full-Size Tables Can Be Used While Standing and by Large Groups

Full-Size Tables Can Be Used While Standing and by Large Groups

With a regular-height table, you can comfortably prepare food while standing up. In addition, the tabletops are larger than their lower counterparts, making them perfect for large groups or family camping trips. Conversely, low tables don’t have a lot of space on their smaller surfaces, so they aren’t the best option for such groups. You also have to bend forward when preparing meals, even sitting in a chair.

If the Full-Size Table Comes With a Carrying Case, Dividers Make It More Compact

If the Full-Size Table Comes With a Carrying Case, Dividers Make It More Compact

Some tables with separate parts come with carrying cases with dividers, keeping the rolled-up tabletop and the legs in separate compartments. On the other hand, if the case doesn’t have a partition, the tabletop, and legs can shift around and expand the bag. This can also lead to scratches when they bump into each other.

Not only are cases with dividers easier to carry but they are also easier to store. If you have limited room to get all your gear in the trunk of your car, look for a table that includes a storage case with dividers.

If You Want a Regular-Height Table, We Recommend a Folding Aluminum One By Portal

If You Want a Regular-Height Table, We Recommend a Folding Aluminum One By Portal

Portal’s aluminum folding table has a case with dividers and weighs only around nine pounds. It’s compact and relatively light, making it portable and easy to store. If you’re looking for a full-size table, give this product a look.

③ Low Tables Make Better Side Tables

You should pick up a low table if you want to use it as a side table, as they’re compact and work well for this purpose. We’ll explain why below while also letting you know which low table is the best around.

Low Tables Are Small, Light, and Portable

Low Tables Are Small, Light, and Portable

Low tables are significantly lighter than full-size camping tables and are thus much more portable. Some of these products are small enough to fit in a backpack, so you don’t need to dedicate much space to storing them.

Plus, many are the perfect size and height to place next to your chair. Even if you lower an adjustable-height table, the tabletop is enormous, taking up unnecessary space. Thus, low tables are ideal for smaller groups and are best used for drinks, snacks, and other smaller items.

Look for One That Has a Carrying Case With Handles

Look for One That Has a Carrying Case With Handles

Most low tables don’t weigh much, averaging about four and a half pounds, but if you want to maximize portability, look for one with a case that has a handle. You can sling the case over your shoulder or attach it to your bag if the case has handles. This can reduce the strain on your arm, so it’s perfect for long trips. On top of that, carrying it on your shoulder frees up your hands to carry other things.

Tables With a Load Capacity of 100 Pounds Are Sturdy

Tables With a Load Capacity of 100 Pounds Are Sturdy

Most camping tables have a listed load capacity, which indicates the maximum weight you should place on the table. The average load capacity for low tables is about 65 pounds, but if you’re looking for an extra-sturdy one, look for one with a load capacity of 100 pounds.

We found that tables with a load capacity of 100 pounds could hold that much weight without the legs bending or warping. They also didn’t flip over when we pressed down on the edge of the tabletop. On the other hand, tables with a load capacity of around 45 pounds couldn’t support much weight, and the legs warped. With some products, the legs bent and the table was damaged.

NEMO’s Dual-Height Low Table Is Highly Portable and Very Sturdy

NEMO’s Dual-Height Low Table Is Highly Portable and Very Sturdy

The Moonlander Dual-Height Table by NEMO can be a side table or be set even lower to use while lounging on the ground. It is easy to carry, as it’s light and its case has a handle. Not only that, but it held up well when we placed 100 pounds on top of it. You should consider this product if you’re in the market for a low table.

④ If You Can’t Decide Which Table to Buy, Look for a Sturdy One You Can Use for a Long Time

We’ve covered three types of tables so far, but if you’re still undecided on which one to buy, let us explain how to find a sturdy and long-lasting table.

Splayed Legs Withstand Heavy Loads

Splayed Legs Withstand Heavy Loads

It's essential to check the frame structure for a sturdy camping table. Tables with splayed legs provide stability and can hold a lot of weight.

We found in our stability test that legs that attach at an angle, like splayed and X-shaped legs, were very stable and didn't wobble much, even when we shook them on purpose. On the other hand, tables with straight legs and a high center of gravity wobble easily.

Tables with splayed legs can also hold their entire load capacity without the legs losing their shape, so they are very sturdy. On the other hand, X-shaped legs focus their strength on the table's edges and don't support weight very well.

With a stable camping table, you can put things anywhere on top without worrying about it losing its balance. Still, looking for a flat place to set up your table is better, even if it’s very stable.

If the Length of the Legs Can Be Adjusted, You Can Use It on Bumpy Surfaces

If the Length of the Legs Can Be Adjusted, You Can Use It on Bumpy Surfaces

Finding perfectly flat ground to set your table on when camping or picnicking is difficult. This is when legs that can be adjusted in small increments come in handy.

This lets you adjust the length of the legs individually, so you can ensure the table is flat on uneven ground. You never know how bumpy the ground may be outdoors, so these tables are great if you do a lot of camping.

Aluminum Tables Don’t Bend Easily and Are Resistant to Heat and Water

Aluminum Tables Don’t Bend Easily and Are Resistant to Heat and Water

If you use a table for camping, you'll likely put hot things on it, and there's a good chance it'll get wet. If you're looking for a table that can take a beating and hold up for a long time, look for an aluminum one.

While most materials we tested were heat- and water-resistant, aluminum was exceptionally durable. Some have oxide coatings on the surface, so they're easy to wash off if something gets on them, and it doesn't corrode easily. Unfortunately, they scratch easily, but they are resistant to heat, as we didn't see any deformation or color changes when we placed a skillet heated to 212 degrees on the tables.

Conversely, plastic and melamine tables are easy to clean and don't scratch easily. However, they don't handle heat very well, so it's best not to place hot items on these tables. Polyester tables get warped easily, and liquid soaks into them, so you must be careful not to put heavy items or spill drinks on them.

For families and large groups, a sturdy aluminum table is your best bet to handle the large number of items that will be on the table.

mybest's Top Choice! Sturdy, Stable, and Height-Adjustable

Portal was founded by a small group of outdoor enthusiasts in 2011 and develops a wide range of products for outdoor activities. This is an aluminum table with a load capacity of 60 pounds, with the legs and top as separate pieces. It has thick, splayed legs that keep it stable even when a lot of weight is placed on the table. The tabletop and legs are both made of aluminum, so it has a balanced center of gravity. It can be used as a regular-height table, low table, and anywhere in between.

While it got scratched when we moved a skillet placed on it, it wasn’t damaged by the heat and didn’t absorb any water. It was sturdy overall, as neither the tabletop nor the legs bent or warped when the maximum load was applied. This table is rather large when set up, so it’s not very small when it’s stored. That being said, it only weighs nine pounds four ounces, which is relatively light for such a large table. While the legs need to be attached to the tabletop, there aren’t many parts and all the steps are simple, so it doesn’t take much time.

You adjust the height using a lever system which doesn’t require much force to operate, so those who aren't mechanically inclined and people with limited strength can use it comfortably. The legs are fully adjustable, so you can make it however tall you like. It comes with a rack as well, so you can put dishes and other small items in there and keep your table from getting cluttered. This camping table is sturdy, stable, and can be set to any height you need. It can be used in any situation, so it’s perfect for anyone looking for a camping table.

4-Person Table That's Sturdy Even if You Put Lots of Weight on It

This is a 27.5-inch square aluminum table by Portal, an outdoor goods brand with offices in Germany and England, with a roll-up tabletop and legs as separate pieces. The legs are splayed, which prevents the table from wobbling when you put your hands or heavy objects on top of it. It has a lightweight tabletop and heavy legs, giving it a low center of gravity and keeping it from flipping over when a lot of weight is applied to the edge of the table. In addition, the tabletop is made of aluminum, which doesn’t deteriorate easily.

We didn’t notice any melting or discoloring caused by heat, but it was scratched easily when a skillet placed on it was moved. Regardless, it is sturdy enough to use comfortably outdoors. It’s large when set up, but there is a divider in the case that allows it to shrink down to a compact size. In addition, it only weighs nine pounds two ounces, making it easy to carry for most people.

It has four parts to put together, which is a bit more than we’d like. However, the steps are simple and you don’t need to be very strong to put it together, so it’s not a big deal once you get used to it. It doesn’t have many useful features, like a rack or the ability to adjust the height, but the storage case has a handle that allows you to carry it on your shoulder, freeing up your hands to carry other items. This is a stable table with good balance that is perfect for groups of three to four people.

Stable, Splayed Legs With a Sturdy Tabletop

Coleman has been active in the outdoor goods industry for years and has a large selection of camping supplies. Their outdoor folding table is aluminum with a load capacity of 100 pounds. It has splayed steel legs and an aluminum tabletop, giving it a good center of gravity and great stability. The legs stick in the ground and keep it from wobbling when you put a lot of weight on it.

Both the tabletop and the legs hold their shape when weight is placed on the table, making it very sturdy. It was scratched easily by the skillet we set on it, but the heat didn’t cause any deformation or discoloration and water didn’t soak into the surface. It’s on the larger side when fully assembled, so it doesn’t get very small when you store it. Even still, it only weighs eight pounds 12 ounces, making it very portable. The legs need to be attached to the tabletop in order to assemble it. That being said, it’s not difficult to put together, so even those who aren't mechanically inclined shouldn’t have much of a problem once they get used to it.

The case has a handle, so you can carry it on your shoulder. It doesn’t have any other features, such as the ability to adjust the height or modify the leg length precisely, so we can’t call it a highly versatile table. This table is great for barbecues and other events with many people, as it’s sturdy and can withstand a lot of weight.

Stable and Sturdy Low Table With Many Parts

NEMO Equipment produces a wide variety of unique outdoor products, including this Moonlander Table. It’s a highly durable low table made of heat-stabilized nylon and has the legs and top as separate pieces. It has splayed legs that keep it stable on the ground and prevent wobbling. It also has a good balance between the weight of the tabletop and the legs.

It doesn’t tip over when a lot of weight is placed on the edge. This table keeps its shape even under a lot of pressure, including the legs. Not only that, but it isn’t negatively affected by heat and is very durable overall. While it's very light at just four pounds, it doesn’t shrink down much compared to its size when assembled. However, it’s still smaller than other camping tables when broken down, so it isn’t hard to carry or store.

As for assembly, it isn’t difficult to put together. However, it has five parts and the legs need to be inserted into the table, so it can be a hassle. This is a low table, but it can be made even lower by removing the legs. It doesn’t have a ton of features, but we recommend this table for people who use a chair that is low to the ground or want to use it for picnics.

Somewhat Heavy, but Sturdy and Easy to Assemble

This melamine folding table by Coleman is height-adjustable. This table doesn’t tip over when you put a lot of weight on the edges. However, while the weight of the table is fairly balanced, it has a high center of gravity, so it can be a bit unsteady under heavy loads or when leaned upon. It is stable when used as a low table, though.

While melamine can become warped rather easily, it’s hard to scratch and holds up well against heat. The legs of this table don’t bend even under a lot of weight, so they are quite sturdy. This table is quite compact when broken down compared to its size when in use. However, it weighs 11 pounds 14 ounces, so it may be hard to carry for some people.

On the other hand, it doesn’t have many parts and is simple and intuitive to set up. You don’t need to be particularly strong to assemble it, so most people won’t have any trouble getting it put together. This table has three height settings, allowing you to use it in a variety of different situations. The legs can also be adjusted individually to accommodate uneven surfaces.

Heavy and Somewhat Unstable, but Seems Tough

Lifetime started out manufacturing basketball hoops and now develops camping tables, chairs, and a wide variety of other products. This is a height-adjustable folding table with a tabletop made of high-density polyethylene and has an impressive load capacity of 200 pounds. The tabletop and legs are well-balanced in terms of weight, which prevents the table from tipping over under heavy loads. However, it has straight legs, which makes it wobble a bit. This won't be an issue when using it as a low table, which lowers its center of gravity.

We didn’t notice any scratching caused by the skillet we put on it, nor did the heat melt or discolor the surface. The tabletop and legs also kept their shape when heavy items were placed on top, so this product is very sturdy overall. Despite being on the larger side, it’s relatively compact when folded down. That being said, it weighs in at a whopping 18 pounds two ounces, which is definitely heavy for a lot of people.

You adjust the height of the legs using push-buttons, which can be a bit stubborn. However, the unit is just one piece, making it quick and straightforward to set up for anyone, even those who aren't mechanically inclined. It doesn’t have many features aside from being height-adjustable and having a handle, so it’s not exactly versatile in that regard, but it has four height settings which allow it to be used in a variety of situations.

Lacks Features but Has Durable and Stable X-Shaped Legs

GCI Outdoor develops a wide variety of highly portable outdoor tables and chairs. This is a folding low table made of aluminum that comes in 20- or 25-inch sizes. It has thick, X-shaped aluminum legs, which give it a good center of gravity and stop it from wobbling. The tabletop and legs are made of the same material, which makes it well-balanced.

This table is very sturdy and doesn’t flip over when a lot of weight is placed on the edge. In addition, the tabletop doesn’t warp and the legs don’t bend. While the aluminum surface scratches easily, it doesn’t melt or become discolored by heat and doesn’t absorb water. While it gets thinner when folded down, it isn’t that compact compared to its full size. However, it only weighs three pounds two ounces, making it extremely portable.

The legs and tabletop are one combined piece, so all you have to do is open it out and it’s ready to go. The buttons aren’t always user-friendly when extending the legs, but this table shouldn’t be too hard to set up, even for those who aren't mechanically inclined. It doesn’t have any features, such as being height-adjustable or having a rack. The tabletop isn’t that big and can’t be connected to another table, so it isn’t suitable for large groups.

Well-Constructed, but Unstable and Time-Consuming to Set Up

iClimb deals in a wide variety of camping products, mostly focusing on outdoor chairs and tables. This is an aluminum low table with a load capacity of 66 pounds. It comes in four sizes, and we tested the largest for this article. The legs are heavier than the tabletop, which gives it a low center of gravity and good balance. However, the legs are straight, so it's prone to wobbling under weight. On the other hand, the tabletop and legs held up well under heavy loads without warping or bending.

Being made of aluminum, it scratches easily, but it doesn’t melt or become discolored by heat or absorb water, so it’s relatively sturdy overall. It’s a low table, so it’s not very large and it can be broken down to a compact size. It’s also lighter than other types of tables, making it very portable.

The legs have shock cords, but it is a little complicated to assemble and has many parts, so it takes a long time. It doesn’t take a lot of strength, but you need to get used to it. The tabletop can be extended, so you can adjust as necessary based on how many people are using it. It also has a rack in which you can place smaller items and keep the table looking neat.

Straightforward to Set Up, but Lacks Stability

Camp Field is an outdoor goods brand that focuses on developing camping tables. This is a folding height-adjustable table with an aluminum frame and a load capacity of 66 pounds. It comes in six different colors. While the legs and tabletop are well-balanced, the legs are straight, which leads to the table being unstable. In addition, it tilted when we put a lot of weight on the edge. When used as a low table, the center of gravity is lower and it doesn’t tilt.

The legs don’t bend under heavy weight, heat doesn’t cause the tabletop to melt or become discolored, and water doesn’t soak into the surface. However, we did notice that the tabletop became warped under heavy loads. Due to its large size, it doesn’t get very compact when broken down. It weighs 13 pounds three ounces, so it might be too heavy for some people to carry comfortably.

On the plus side, it’s easy to assemble. It doesn’t have many parts, and while you have to screw the legs into the table, it is easy and straightforward to put together due to being a folding table. Even those who aren't mechanically inclined should be able to set it up with ease. This table has three height settings and comes with a rack. While we wouldn’t say it has many features, it can be used as either a regular or low table and can fit a number of different situations.

Compact and Stable, but Takes Time to Set Up

This low table by Coleman has a polyester surface, with the legs and top as separate pieces. It’s notable for its rounded feet, which help it adapt to different kinds of terrain. The legs are heavier than the tabletop, giving it a low center of gravity and preventing it from wobbling. Its X-shaped legs provide stability and prevent it from tipping over even when a lot of weight is applied to the edge.

On the other hand, the polyester tabletop loses its shape easily and absorbs liquids, so you have to be careful not to spill a drink on it. We also noticed the legs getting bent under heavy loads. As a low table, it’s relatively small when in use and is similarly compact when put away. It is highly portable and easy to carry for just about anyone, as it only weighs four pounds three ounces.

It takes some time to put together, as it has five parts and a number of steps. It has shock corded poles, which makes it easy to know where everything goes, but if you put them in the wrong direction, you can’t attach them to the table. The included case has a handle, allowing it to be carried on your shoulder or attached to a bag. However, it doesn’t have any other useful features. While it can still be used without issue, it’s not exactly versatile.

Light and Compact but Can’t Withstand Much Weight

Trekology is a company based out of Portland, Oregon that develops outdoor supplies. Their folding camping table is a low model made of aluminum with the legs and top as separate pieces and a load capacity of 50 pounds. It has X-shaped legs that prevent it from swaying side to side, and they’re made from the same material as the tabletop, making it a well-balanced unit. However, it is not very stable when heavy loads are placed on it, as it doesn’t stay level and looks ready to tip over. On top of that, the legs struggle to support the table and bend under heavy weight. This damages the legs, so you have to be careful to avoid this.

However, seeing as it’s made of aluminum, it’s highly resistant to heat and water, and neither the tabletop nor the legs will deteriorate easily. It can be broken down to a long, thin, and compact size compared to when it’s fully assembled. It won’t take up much room in your bag and you don’t need a lot of space to store it at home. It only weighs two pounds 15 ounces, making it very portable and easy to store.

You have to insert the legs into the tabletop, but it doesn’t take a lot of force to do so. It only has two parts, so it is quick and easy to set up once you get the hang of it. You can’t adjust the height of this table or the length of its legs, but the case has a handle, allowing you to carry it on your shoulder or attach it to your bag.

Light and Portable but Has a Low Load Capacity

Villey sells camping tables and chairs, including this side table with the legs and top as separate pieces that comes in blue, gold, or green. Villey also offers three different sizes. We tested the small for this article. This table is well-balanced, thanks to the legs and tabletop being made of the same material. The legs are X-shaped and prevent the table from swaying side to side, but they don’t hold up well under heavy loads. The table struggles to stay level and looks like it may tip over at any moment when the load is on the edge.

The aluminum tabletop has a special oxide coating that makes it resistant to corrosion, heat and water. However, it’s not as sturdy as we’d like, and the legs bent under the listed maximum load capacity. On the bright side, this table is extremely light, weighing around two pounds three ounces. It doesn’t get much more compact compared to when it’s in use, but you shouldn’t have much trouble carrying it.

While you do need to put it together, there aren’t very many parts and it’s simple to assemble, so it doesn’t take much time. It shouldn’t be too hard to set up, even without a lot of strength or experience. You can’t adjust the height of this table and it doesn’t come with a rack or other useful features, which is a little disappointing. While it does come with a case, the case doesn’t have a handle, so you can’t carry it on your shoulder.

Test① Stability

Stability
Stability is the first thing you should look for in a camping table. We gave high scores to tables with a balanced center of gravity that didn’t wobble much and weren’t negatively affected when a lot of weight was placed on them. We also checked the following.

  • Whether the legs were heavier than the tabletop
  • The frame structure of the legs
  • Whether the legs and tabletop could lock in place
  • Whether a pencil placed on the table would roll off when the maximum load capacity was placed on the edge of the table
  • Whether the table flipped over when the maximum load was placed on the edge

Test② Construction

Construction
A camping table might be used in some rough conditions, so looking for one with a durable tabletop and legs is essential. Tables that withstood their listed load capacity and were resistant to heat, water, and scratches were evaluated highly.

We checked how each table fared in the following situations.

  • Whether the tabletop became warped under the weight of the maximum load capacity
  • Whether the legs became warped under the weight of the maximum load capacity
  • If the tabletop scratched easily
  • If the tabletop is made of a material that can deteriorate easily
  • If the frame is made of a material that can deteriorate easily

We checked each table's heat and water resistance using the following methods.

Heat

  • We placed a 212-degree Fahrenheit skillet directly on the table and checked for deformation and color changes

Water

  • We poured 50 milliliters (about two ounces) of water on the table, left it there for three minutes, and checked if it seeped into the surface

Test③ Portability

Portability
You want your items for outdoor leisure to be as light and compact as possible. However, camping tables come in various sizes, so it can be hard to know the standard for portability. We evaluated how compact and light each table was using the following procedures.

Compactness

  • We calculated the ratio between the size when in use and when stored. The smaller the ratio was, the more compact it was relative to its size when in use.

Weight

  • We weighed each table, with light tables getting higher scores.

Test④ Ease of Setting Up

Ease of Setting Up
The easier your table is to set up, the better. The number of parts and construction of the table can significantly influence this. We looked at the following points and found which products were quick and easy to set up for anyone.

  • Setup process
  • Number of parts
  • How the legs are set up
  • How the legs and tabletop are put together
  • How the height is adjusted
  • How safe it is to set up (how likely you might be to sustain an injury such as having your finger pinched during setup)

Test⑤ Features

Features
Some camping tables have additional features that make them even more convenient. We looked for the following six features to see if the tables offered extra stability or other ways to use them.

  • Whether its height can be adjusted
  • If it has a handle
  • Whether or not it has a rack
  • Whether or not it has a storage bag
  • If its legs can be adjusted precisely
  • If it can connect to other tables
