Ammarah's Top 10 Makeup Base Products for Summer

In the summer, it tends to get hot and humid, and your makeup can't help but melt off! That's why base products are so important. You need to prep your face to last through those hot days, but also keep it lightweight so your skin won't feel tempted to sweat so much. But it can be difficult to figure out what works and what doesn't, so we've asked K-beauty blogger Ammarah (@ammarahblog) for her advice. 

She says: "As summer is here, I think it’s a perfect time for me to introduce some of my favorite base products to you guys. Most of the products I am introducing today may be holy grails for many of you, but I will also be sharing some new great makeup products that you need to try out if you haven't already! 

I will be focusing more on lightweight base products which provide plenty of coverage, are long-lasting, and work well in hot and humid weather even with a mask on! Here are some of my favorite skin prep product recommendations."

    I love this pact because it sets makeup in place, keeps the sebum and oil away, and smoothes out the skin overall. It comes in the cutest case and includes a mirror and a puff that works great when applying the product. 

    You have a choice of two different shades with two different types of packaging; but, since the powder gives a sheer type of coverage, most skin shades can get away with either. It is formulated with honey extract and willowherb extracts, and it has an artificial, honey-sweet scent to it which can be hit-or-miss with some people. 

    However, it does not make your skin look cakey and smoothes the skin without making it look flat. It's not the best for people who have dry skin, but I think it works for most skin types and those who use it will definitely enjoy it!

    This luxurious and richly textured cream is perfect to use to prep your skin before applying your makeup! It melts into the skin easily, leaving it hydrated. It also has a floral scent to it that does fade away eventually, if you aren't a huge fan of fragrances.

    Overall, I love how it leaves the skin supple and moisturized. If you have oily skin, you may find it overwhelming at first, so the trick is to use a little bit at a time and work it in layers! It's definitely a great option for dry and dehydrated skin types, though.

    This cream comes from a relatively new line by Clio, but as it's vegan, sweat-proof, and has SPF 45 PA++, I just had to introduce it! It comes in tube form, so it’s a travel-friendly product as well. The BB cream holds up really well in humid weather and is perfect for people like me who sweat a lot. 

    This has a matte finish and adheres well to the skin. You only need a thin, light layer. I think it actually beats all the other base products I own in terms of adherence! The coverage of this BB cream is no joke, as it has medium to full coverage. 

    Sadly, it only comes in three different shades, but those who can match their tone and have sensitive, oily, combination, or normal skin will enjoy using this product the most in summer.

    This makeup base is perfect for correcting your skin tone and even provides SPF 30 protection! You have a choice between two colors: green and purple. The green one helps to tone the face and also reduces redness, while purple cancels out yellow discoloration and makes your skin look naturally bright and healthy. 

    Personally, I like to use it as a tone-up cream as this really stays on all day long. It contains sunflower seed oil, echium plantagineum seed oil, and balloon vine extract, ingredients that help in soothing skin and strengthening the skin barrier. 

    The creamy emulsion hydrates and moisturizes the skin at the same time without making the face look or feel greasy. A little bit goes a long way. It even helps a little in blurring pores!     This foundation, as the name suggests, has a glowy, satin-like finish and a serum-like consistency that helps to make your skin look naturally healthy. It also has natural to medium coverage which is buildable to some extent. 

    It works really well for all skin types, but especially for sensitive skin, as it contains aloe vera juice, peach fruit extract, Maqui berry, and hyaluronic acid.     I love how fine the shimmer is and how the gel formula melts into the skin. To get a little more glow, sometimes I like to mix it with foundation or other base products when applying makeup. I have seen many radiant primers but this gives the best within-skin glow. The foundation comes in three different shades.

    I always suffer from dryness around my eye area, so this concealer was a total game-changer for me as it is both a concealer and eye cream! It helps to make the eye area supple and well moisturized. Caffeine, pink algae, arnica, provitamin B5, peptides, and hyaluronic acids are the key ingredients in this concealer. 

    This creamy concealer gives you medium coverage, which is perfect for daily use; plus, a little goes a long way, so I use it by applying tiny dots. It also looks gorgeous as foundation on the face since it leaves a satin finish, does not crease, and has a pretty good lasting power.

    I love a cushion foundation that gives great lightweight coverage, a powdery finish, and makes your skin look beautiful. And all of this I can find in the Kill Cover Clio Founwear Cushion! It holds up pretty well under masks and humid weather, too. 

    The Clio cushion applies thinly, covers the pores really well, and gives medium to full coverage. It also does not make skin look cakey and holds up to eight hours - which is a pretty good length of time for a cushion foundation. 

    I think all skin types can enjoy using it, but I would recommend people with dry skin to do proper skincare before applying it. It's available in seven shades.

    This foundation is finely pigmented and the texture melts into the skin! Though most foundations can often make skin look cakey, this one doesn't. It has a velvet-matte finish that lasts the whole day long and it does not come off easily. 

    Covericious comes in eight shades in a luxurious-looking pump bottle. The foundation itself covers your dark spots, imperfections, and pores really well. It also has medium coverage which is buildable; however, it works best in thin layers and the shades it comes in are mostly neutral, which makes it easy to work with.
