Ammarah's Top 10 Korean Skincare Products for Spring and Summer

Into Korean beauty but not sure how to make the transition to spring and summer products yet? K-Beauty addict Ammarah (@ammarahblog) can help you out! We asked her for 10 of her favorite products to get you through those hot, humid, oily days to glowing perfection. Here's what she had to say:

"As spring and summer are just around the corner, it's the best time to share some Korean skincare products. I will be covering everything from cleansing balm, to sunscreen, and to sleeping masks that you will need to try this spring and summer (if you haven't already).

Let me introduce you to mild, calming, and hydrating products which are well-known in the K-beauty community. K-beauty brands focus more on mild formulations and calming ingredients like mugwort and Centella, which work for most skin types. I made this product list keeping in mind most skin types and maskne, which is becoming more common these days."

    Real Mugwort Clay Mask

    Ammarah Afzal

This is my go-to clay mask as I have acne-prone skin that is sensitive as well. I can’t bear the dry and itchy feeling of the clay masks, but this is the best clay mask you can find, especially if you have dry, combination, or irritated skin.

This mask contains six different types of clays, as well as mugwort leaf powder that exfoliates and calms the skin at the same time. The texture of the mask is more on the creamy side and contains small particles of mugwort leaves that also moisturize the skin.

These mugwort masks have a mild herbal scent. I use them twice a week for 10 minutes each and they soothe, exfoliate, moisturize, and smooth out the texture of my skin every time.
  • Celimax
    The Real Noni Energy Ampule

    Ammarah Afzal

This ampoule contains 71.77% Noni fruit extract and Noni seed oil. Noni is known as the fruit of God since it's packed with a ton of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals.

The ampoule is lightweight, gel-like in texture but becomes watery when massaged into the skin. It then absorbs easily into the skin, leaving it supple and well moisturized. And as a bonus, this ampoule does not contain any alcohol or artificial coloring!

It has a herbal scent to it that's pretty pleasant. It also helps in calming, hydrating, and strengthening the skin. It will work for most skin types, especially for people who have dull skin.
    Cellus Sun Gel

    Ammarah Afzal

This sun gel is emulsion-like in texture and consistency. It has a moderate scent to it, and the reason why it stands out is that it does not have any white cast to it and it absorbs easily into the skin without feeling tacky on the skin.

It helps in soothing and hydrating the skin instantly. If you have oily skin, you can definitely skip any other moisturizer after this - it moisturizes that well.

This gives a satin finish and does not create any film on the skin, which further makes it great for oily skin. I think most people will enjoy it especially if you have problematic, oily, combination, or dry skin since it doesn't clog the pores. It works great under makeup as well!
  • Purito
    Centella Unscented Toner

    Ammarah Afzal

When it comes to toner, hydration and soothing are especially when the seasons are changing. This is a mild, alcohol-free toner that is lightweight, absorbs easily into the skin, and reduces redness.

It contains Centella Asiatica extract, sodium hyaluronate, and panthenol, which are great for dry, irritated, dehydrated, combination, and sensitive skin. This also does not contain any essential oil or fragrance if sensitivity is an issue for you.

I love to use this Purito toner with cotton pads as a mask to calm my skin in as little as five to 10 minutes. The best part is that you can layer it easily to calm any irritation and for an extra-hydrating effect.
  • d'Alba Piedmont
    Waterfull Sleeping Pack

    Ammarah Afzal

The d’Alba Waterfull Sleeping Masks come in individual packaging for one-time use, which makes it easy to carry them around. It contains Italian white truffle and 8 kinds of hyaluronic acids for a good dose of moisture and nourishment.

This has a gel-cream texture somewhat similar to the popular Laneige Water Sleeping Mask, and it's also lightweight. It does not feel sticky or heavy on the skin and has a perfumey scent to it.

It really helps in soothing, hydrating, and moisturize the skin. I love to use it as a makeup base on the days when my skin is looking dull. This sleeping mask is ideal for oily, combination, and irritated skin.
  • AXIS-Y
Quinoa One Step Balanced Gel Cleanser

    Ammarah Afzal

AXIS-Y gel cleanser is one of the gentlest yet most effective gel cleansers I have ever come across! This does not dry out the skin and works best when washing with lukewarm water.

For humid weather and summer, it’s something that every skin type will enjoy. It has a pH of 5.5 and contains Centella Asiatica, calendula, green tea, and quinoa as key nourishing ingredients.

It's also vegan, cruelty-free, and does not contain any mineral oil or artificial colors and fragrance. This cleanses the skin nicely and hydrates it as well. It also removes your daily makeup (excluding some waterproof products).
  • Neogen
    Vita Duo Day Cream

    Ammarah Afzal

Recently, Neogen decided to split their famous Vita Duo Cream into separate day creams and night creams. I really like the Neogen Vita Duo Cream, but this Day Cream with environmentally-friendly packaging is a definite winner for me.

The key ingredients are green tea and vitamin C. The Vita Day Cream has one of the most interesting textures to it; it feels thick as a whipped butter in the container, but when you start blending it on the skin, it melts into the skin easily just like a lightweight moisturizer.

It has a mild herbal scent to it, does not create any film in the skin or feel heavy; and it also hydrates, calms, and moisturizes the skin instantly. It also works great as a makeup base. Even though it is advertised as a day cream, you can use it as a night pack as well.
  • TIAM
    Vita B3 Source

    Ammarah Afzal

If you have uneven skin tone and discoloration but vitamin C is too harsh for you, this IAM Vita B3 Source is everything you need. It contains niacinamide and arbutin as the main ingredients, which are mild yet effective ingredients to deal with hyperpigmentation.

This serum really improves your skin texture and brightens the skin overall. I like to use it twice a day, but you can use it just once if you have sensitive skin. Also, make sure to apply SPF if you are using it in the morning!

The texture of it is lightweight, absorbs instantly into the skin, does not irritate the skin or dry it out, and evens out the dark spots.
  • JMsolution
    Honey Luminous Royal Propolis Mask

    Ammarah Afzal

It's been two years since I started using this, and this JMsolution Honey Mask is still on top of my list when it comes to sheet masks. It contains a generous 30 milliliters of propolis ampoule. I like to add the excess ampoule to a container and use it as regular skincare later.

I haven’t used a mask that does not dry out after 30 minutes except this one! It soothes, hydrates, and moisturizes the skin so well. The key ingredients are propolis, green propolis, and royal jelly.

This is something I can easily recommend to all skin types, especially for dehydrated and dry skin. For an extra-soothing effect, you can keep it in the fridge for 5 to 10 minutes before using it.
  • Banila Co
Clean It Zero Original Cleansing Balm

    Ammarah Afzal

A good Korean skincare routine is incomplete without double-cleansing. There is a reason why everyone loves Banila co cleansing balm; this lightweight balm melts down all the stubborn makeup and impurities from your face without irritating it.

It doesn't dry out the skin and keeps it soft. This balm has a zero-balance technology, which means it cleanses the skin deeply without irritating it. It also includes vitamin C and vitamin E as a bonus.

It does not feel greasy or create a film like other cleansing balms, so it's easier to work with. There are five different variations to choose from, but I personally like the original as most skin types can use it.
