Did you know that our hair is made up of positive and negative ions? When we brush our hair or dry it with a towel, we strip our hair of negative ions, and this results in static and frizzy hair. We've all experienced it, especially in dry and cold weather. That is where ionic hairbrushes come in. By heating up an ionic hairbrush and brushing your hair, you restore your natural charge by adding negative ions.
So, we created a list of the 9 best ionic hairbrushes out there. After sifting through multiple brushes and reviews we decided that MiroPure's Hair Straightener Brush With Ionic Generator deserves the number one spot in our list. It comes with many useful features and works well for all hair types. Check out what else made our list, and take a look at the buying guide reviewed by a licensed cosmetologist for tips on how to find one on your own!

With ionic hairbrushes becoming more popular, you may find choosing one difficult. To make this process easier, we've set up a guide with things to keep in mind when browsing.
When choosing your brush size, focus on the type of hairstyle you desire and the type and length of hair you have. If you're looking for tighter curls, opt for slimmer barrels; whereas if you're looking for looser curls, consider larger barrels.
When it comes to straightening thick and coarse hair, we suggest choosing a flat brush. The brush is shaped in the form of an oval or rectangle and is mainly used for straightening or taming those curls.
The width of the plate determines how much hair a brush can hold for straightening. Opt for a wider surface brush if you would like to tame your curls without breaking the pattern of the curl.
A flat and wider brush makes for easier use, but the size of the sections really determines which brush is good. If you want to work in big sections (which I don't recommend) a bigger/wider brush is the best bet. But if you work in small sections like me, a smaller brush is ideal. The big one can be used for both, it just might be a little difficult.
A round brush resembles the shape of a barrel. This brush works best for curling and creating volume for your hair. It can also help you smooth your hair and tame frizz and flyaway strands.
Also, check the size of the barrel! For those with short or fine hair, go for a small barrel that's 0.5 to one inch in diameter. It will provide you with more precision and tighter curls. However, due to the small surface area, it struggles to curl long, thick hair. So, if your hair is long and thick, make sure the barrel is one to two inches in diameter.
Make sure to have some sort of heat protection on deck and to work in sections according to the brush.
Different brands offer different plates. When considering a brand and plate, choose between ceramic, tourmaline, or titanium. Each differs in terms of speed and distribution of heat.
Ceramic is mostly used in round brushes. By heating up quickly, the ceramic generates negative ions and distributes them evenly. This allows the brush to gently glide through your hair and thus reduces the chance of hair damage and breakage even on color-treated hair. Ceramic material is affordable, too!
Of course, with any tool that produces heat, you should just be careful in general. But if you notice your hair isn't in the best shape, you shouldn't add heat unless you really want to. Since most ionic hair brushes are made with ceramic, 9/10 it's the only kind available.
Tourmaline is a rare gemstone incorporated into your brush. It creates more negative ions and distributes heat faster and more evenly than ceramic. Out of all options, tourmaline can discharge the most amount of negative ions.
The downside? Because of the rarity of these crystals, it is one of the more expensive options you can choose from. On the other hand, tourmaline not only protects your hair from damage but works well with all hair types.
Although titanium is not the most commonly used plating, some brands still use it because of its excellent heat transfer. In fact, it can distribute heat better and heat up more quickly than ceramic. When it comes to ionic generation, it ranks second after tourmaline.
Keep in mind, however, that the heat coming from titanium is too much for fine hair and is ideal for thicker hair. On another note, titanium is very sturdy and won't break easily.
This is very important since it takes longer for thick and curly hair to straighten. Of course, after going in with a heat protector, always go in with sections that the brush can handle to get the best use of it. Your section should be about the width of the brush/bristles and no bigger than a little less than the brush.
Bristles can be made from either nylon or boar. Compared to boar bristles, nylon ones are stiffer and work great for thick, coarse hair. They will help you detangle your frizzy hair with ease.
On the other hand, boar bristles are softer and gentler on the scalp. They're a great choice for people with fine, thin, or damaged hair as they are less likely to pull out hair and make your tangling problem worse.
Be careful with this if you are using these around heat since, for the most part, they don't come in an ionic brush. You have to use both hands when working with these kinds of brushes. I prefer these more because they give a more natural and shiny look.
When it comes to the heat settings on your ionic brush, having a wider range of temperature allows you to style your hair with precision. Also note that most curling irons and straighteners heat up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. However, 450 is too hot for hair and might end up making your hair become much weaker.
While normal hair can be ironed at 300 to 380 degrees Fahrenheit, fine or color-treated hair cannot cope with such high temperatures. So if you have thin or damaged hair, try to stay in a lower range of 290 to 300. For thick, coarse, or curly hair, stay in the 350 to 400 degree range. But for all hair types, don't go over 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Many ionic brushes have multiple heat settings. This helps you style your hair without leaving it burnt and damaged. You should start with a low temperature first and work upward to find the right temperature for your hair.
When choosing an ionic brush, pay attention to the handle! You should choose a slender, non-slip handle for better user control. Also, be sure that your brush has a long cord to style the hair at the back of your head.
Ionic brushes that come with multiple heat settings might have a LCD display screen, which allows you to know the temperature that you're using. This feature will help you make sure that your brush is on the right heat setting to keep you looking sleek and stylish all day long.
Another handy accessory that will make your life easier is a heat protectant glove that allows you to style your hair without burning your hand. Many ionic brushes also come with a bag for easy storage and sectioning clips to help you separate your hair.
This ionic hairbrush from MiroPure generates negative ions that leave your hair looking silky and smooth! It comes with an auto-off function that turns off after 60 minutes of inactivity. And thanks to the 360-degree swivel cord, styling the hair at the back of your head has never been easier.
The high-density bristles are compatible with most hair types, while the adjustable heat settings allow you to choose between 300 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. What's more, the added heat glove helps you style your hair without the danger of burning your hand in the process.
Some buyers mention that this brush curls the ends of your hair either inwards or outwards. If you prefer them to be completely straight, try to go over the ends with a flat iron. Meanwhile, the majority find this brush easy to use. Many further add that it works great for thick hair and reduces straightening time substantially.
This two-inch ceramic brush is ideal for medium-length hair. While the even heat distribution is great for drying and styling your hair, it also protects it from heat damage.
Designed with a unique magnetic feature, storing your brush has never been easier. Simply hang it on any metal surface, and you're good to go!
Some users feel that the brush can get stuck in your hair because of the large number of bristles. Some others with shorter hair note that the brush is a bit too big for them and suggest getting a smaller size. Still, many find that this ionic brush is easy to hold, dries hair quickly, and leaves it silky smooth.
When it comes to styling your hair, the main issue most people have is adding and ultimately keeping volume in their hair throughout the day. That's why we love the fact that this ionic hair brush adds volume to the finest of hair while giving it a shiny finish without causing damage.
Plus, this brush comes with a built-in section pin, allowing you to easily part and divide your hair. The handle is also ergonomic and fits nicely into your hand. Still, some reviewers feel that the bristles are a bit coarse and end up scratching your scalp.
On another note, many buyers, including those with thick hair, compliment that this brush helps dry hair in less time and makes their hair become soft, smooth, and shiny without any frizz. Most notice that their hair becomes more voluminous after using the brush.
This ionic brush straightens your hair without excessive heat damage. While the purple teeth straighten your hair, the black teeth cool it down to lock in your desired style. Although it doesn't straighten the ends of your hair like a flat iron would, it gives you volume that lasts.
Moreover, it has an LCD screen that lets you see the temperature you're using. It also comes with a memory mode that remembers your prior heat settings. Yet, a few buyers complain that the brush pulls their hair a bit too much.
Many happy buyers share that this brush is easy to use and say it works great for wavy or frizzy hair. They also praise that it heats up quickly and appreciate all the accessories that come with the brush, including a glove, clips for sectioning hair, and a convenient storage bag.
Our hair's needs can change based on the seasons, our diet, or what hair products we use. That's why it's beneficial to have different settings in your ionic brush as well. Luckily, this brush has three different heat settings that allow you to get the style, dry, or volume you're looking for any time of the year.
On top of that, this device has a 360-degree rotating cord, making it convenient and easy to use. Yet, some buyers complain that the brush is too big, heavy, and hard to use.
Nonetheless, many buyers are happy that this brush helps reduce tangles and shorten drying time. They further mention that it smooths their hair and gives it more volume and shine. Those with thick, coarse, and long hair say this brush works for their hair type, too!
This round brush seals your hair with natural boar bristles and heat to protect it from straightening during styling. Attached inside the handle is a splitting needle and four clips that are great for sectioning off your hair.
This hairbrush is ideal for all hair whether it's straight or curly as long as you're careful with the scalp part. The rubber handle is comfortable to hold and doesn't slip even when your hand is wet.
A few reviewers felt that the bristles are very hard and scratch their scalp. Even so, most buyers compliment that this brush leaves their hair smooth and frizz-free. Users also like that the brush holds onto hair whether it's thick or wet.
Add volume and shine to your hair with this ionic hairbrush! The ionic mineral bristles are designed to reduce frizz while leaving your hair shiny and healthy. Also, they can withstand heat up to 428 degrees Fahrenheit, making this brush safe to use.
Some buyers, however, feel that this brush's bristles can be harsh on the scalp, but they do agree that it helps speed up their drying time. It's likely because the extra-long barrel allows the brush to grab more hair, which reduces your drying and styling time.
On another note, many compliment that this brush smooths out frizzy hair while adding volume. They also share that the brush has a lot of vents to shorten the drying time. Some mention that the handle is easy to hold, too!
If you're a fan of wider brushes for your copious amounts of hair but aren't a fan of rounded brushes, here's a good alternative for you. This Olivia Garden brush may not have different heat settings, but it does have a ceramic barrel that conducts heat pretty well.
Some reviewers are disappointed to receive a brush missing bristles, while some others note that it isn't anti-static. Still, most reviewers agree that this brush works great for all hair types, from long to thin to thick hair.
According to many reviewers, it reduces frizz and leaves you with a salon blowout. The brush also feels nice on the scalp, say reviewers.
This ionic brush is designed with nylon bristles and a cool tip to protect you from burning yourself while you style your hair. The tourmaline and ceramic heating plate releases negative ions and allows even heat distribution.
This brush reduces frizz, locks in moisture, and combs sections of your hair without tangling it. It also comes with many useful features, including an LCD digital display and an auto-powering off feature.
Some reviewers mention that their hair gets stuck in the bristles. Meanwhile, many buyers still give this device a five-star rating as it heats up fast and has a lot of heat settings. They say it curls hair easily and works great on short, fine hair.
