Since there are a ton of fur-lined boots out there, choosing a specific type will help make it easier to find the perfect pair for you. 

The shaft length of a pair of boots determines how high up the boot reaches, and therefore how much of your legs are kept warm. In addition to heat retention, it also has a major effect on your overall style. 

Ankle boots are great to pair with jeans or leggings, but they might leave you a bit colder than ones with higher shafts and aren't great for walking in deep snow. Some, however, come with thick fluff around the ankles for extra insulation.
