Mobile phone and smartphone accessories, Wearable devices and smart watchesA desk mat is a great way to protect your workspace from damage and getting dirty. It also helps to increase mouse sensitivity, which improves work productivity and makes working at your desk comfortable. However, since there are so many different products available by many manufacturers and brands, such as Logitech, Satechi, and Ikea, it can be a challenge to decide which is the best choice.
We tested each product for the following:
Which product ended up being the best of the best? We'll also tell you how to pick the best Desk Mats on your own in our buying guide, so read on for more shopping tips.
Since joining mybest, she has been in charge of furniture and interior goods and has overseen over 350 product tests for goods such as office chairs and desks. With the personal mission to deliver accurate information by thoroughly testing each product, she works hard to curate the best content that will be beneficial to users.
When doing desk work for long periods of time, poor mouse sensitivity can lead to a slump in productivity, and can also be a source of stress. We asked five product reviewers between the ages of 20 and 40 to use a mouse to trace out a round shape we prepared. They rated optical mouse compatibility based on the following criteria.Does the cursor move smoothly, just as you intended it to?Do you feel any resistance when moving the mouse around?Mouse usedM331 SILENT PLUS Wireless Mouse M331rBK
A desk mat that becomes misaligned easily may begin to slide off your desk and get in the way, which makes one with a non-slip grip of great importance to help you stay focused. For this test, we set a MacBook Pro on top of each desk mat and moved it in a predetermined direction, and tested how much each one moved from their fixed location before assigning ratings.
Because a desk mat will be in contact with your skin for long periods of time, its level of comfort is important. If you have sensitive skin, this factor is especially crucial. We had five product reviewers between the ages of 20 and 40 trace a straight line displayed on a monitor back and forth and for fifty rounds before evaluating comfort on the following criteria. After 50 rounds of tracing, does your hand feel sticky or sweaty? After 50 rounds of tracing, does your hand feel any discomfort?Do you feel any pain when you make contact with the edge of the desk mat?
A desk mat is something you'll probably be using every day, so it goes without saying that you'll want to keep clean for as long as possible. There are most likely many people who have a drink with them while they work, so we evaluated the resistance to wear and tear of each desk mat. For this test, we check over the following items regarding water and heat resistance, and gave point-based ratings. We poured 10 grams of water on it, then wiped it off. We checked if there was any difference in weight from before and after wiping. We placed a mug containing 212-degree Fahrenheit water on top of a desk mat, and after 10 minutes, used a level over where the cup sat to check for any unevenness or signs of deformation.

Desk mats are amazing for organizing desk spaces and boosting work motivation, but they also have several useful features.
Recently, as more and more people are working from home, desk mats are increasingly being used by those who want to beautify their at-home work space.
Some are designed to make them easy to use as a mouse pad. There are even options that resist spills to stop your desk from getting wet if you knock over a drink. In addition, having a desk mat laid out can prevent small scrapes or dents from writing on paper, and can help to extend the life of your favorite desk.
With a wide variety of styles and colors ranging from cute and fun to sleek and modern, a desk mat might just even boost your motivation to work!
Here are the points to keep in mind when choosing the best Desk Mats.
Even if you end up buying a desk mat, your productivity may decrease if your mouse doesn't respond well to it. We'll next explain what desk mat characteristics make a mouse work best.
A surface made of polyester or synthetic leather will have no unevenness and lets your mouse work effortlessly thanks to its smoothness. It can even allow your mouse to perform more precise movements than using it directly on your desk. It also provides more space than a mouse pad, so we recommend these for people who game frequently.
On the other hand, desk mats made of cork or felt are highly fashionable and give off a stylish feel, but the mat surface is somewhat uneven and affects mouse performance. It's fine to consider these types if you primarily use a keyboard for work, but they may be a source of stress for anyone who frequently uses a mouse.
Performing similar, repeated movements using your mouse on a desk mat can cause chafing and lead to skin discomfort because of the friction. Understanding what makes a desk mat comfortable may help you concentrate while working at your desk for long time periods.
To test this, we had five product reviewers rate if their skin felt discomfort after using a keyboard and mouse with each desk mat. The result of our testing confirmed that a smooth polyester or synthetic leather desk mat feels good on the skin. We think you'll be able to rest your arms on the edges of this type for a long time. And since they're soft, we think you won't end up with marks on your arms, either.
On the other hand, desk mats made of felt or cork don't feel that great on the skin. Felt desk mats are itchy due to the fluffed-up material, and cork types feel noticeably rough. It may be best for those with sensitive skin to avoid these types.
Some may be wondering if using a mouse for a long time period can make your arm feel clammy. Surprisingly, the number of people who said their hands became sweaty on any material due to frequent mouse use was quite low. Our product testers responded that they were especially happy with desk mats made with polyester, so we recommend picking one made of this material for a comfortable experience at your desk.
Your concentration can get broken if your desk mat tends to move out of place while you work. It may be best to choose a slip-resistant desk mat that has strong anti-skid adhesive materials on the underside.
If your mat gradually slides off of the edge of your desk while you work, it may interfere with your ability to concentrate. In order to keep your desk mat in place and promote focus, we recommend picking something that comes with non-slip grips. During the tests we ran this time, it was found that products made with non-slip grips were resistant to sliding. These desk mats did not slide because of the friction produced between the anti-skid material and the desk. They feature a good grip thanks to a material that feels bumpy and similar to rubber.
However, only two of the seven products in this comparative testing actually had non-slip grips. Many products don't, and they slide around if the computer was moved. Our rankings note which products come with non-slip grips, so be sure to look it over for reference.
Since you'll be looking at it a lot, you want a desk mat that is adds to your decor and stays looking good. You might not feel motivated to work for long on a mat that's worn out and shabby. This means it's also important to consider how the mat will hold up to wear and tear in order to maintain a clean appearance for as long as possible. We discovered, as a result of our testing, that all products had good heat and wear resistance. However, the degree of water resistance varied depending on materials used, so care must be taken when choosing.
If you often have a drink on hand while you work, we recommend being prepared for a spill by choosing a desk mat with good water resistance. A water-resistant desk mat will make it harder for stains to soak in, and will make it easier to maintain a clean appearance.
The desk mats rated for their high water resistance were from Logitech and Satechi. We found it convenient that most of the spilled water bounced right off and was quickly wiped away, which allowed these desk mats to stay as good as new.
On the other hand, be very careful of desk mats that have a sponge-like interior. These absorb water readily and stain easily if you happen to spill a beverage such as coffee. Anyone who keeps a drink on hand while they work should be sure to keep this in mind.
We performed tests that involved filling a mug with water at 212 degrees Fahrenheit and set it on top of the mat, but found that the surface of each desk mat showed no trace of deformation. We found that many desk mats come resistant to heat, so you'll be able to enjoy hot drinks without any worries.

The Studio Series desk mat by Logitech comes in three colors and a rare two-year warranty.
It claimed high ratings when testing for slip resistance. The underside has an anti-skid rubber base that won't budge if you move your computer around, so you'll be able to focus even with limited work space. It also lets you perform detailed cursor movements smoothly when using a mouse on top of it.
Our testers were highly satisfied with how this mat feels, thanks to the soft material that doesn’t stick to the skin. The cloth edge gave no sense of discomfort when rubbing against the wrist and won't cause any issues when using a keyboard for a long time. It also features good water-resistance, which makes it perfect to use if you like to work with a beverage nearby.
This is a product we can truly recommend. Not only is this desk mat non-slip, it even works great as a mouse pad and may prove to help increase your productivity in your daily desk work.

The Gigantus V2 XXL desk mat from Razer has four size and three design options. It's distinct for allowing you to choose a size that best fits the dimensions of your desk.
The underside has anti-skid material that keeps this mat in place even if you move your computer or mouse placed on top. We believe this desk mat won't slide around or slip off the edge of your desk. You should be able to use this for a long work day since the surface is also soft and smooth.
It received a passable rating for mouse maneuverability. It shouldn't pose any issues to use for general desk work, but for precision work such as illustrating, the hardness may make it difficult to work on. It also lacks water-resistance. The sponge-like inner material absorbs water well, so it may stain easily.

The Eco-Leather Deskmate from Satechi features a sleek and elegant design. We love that this desk mat comes flatly packed so you can use it right away.
It was rated highly on mouse maneuverability. The smooth surface allowed testers to use the mouse in precise movements when illustrating, and they experienced no lag, so this desk mat can be used for detailed work without any worries. Another bonus is that the material stays dry even after extended periods of use, making it a great choice for long gaming sessions.
Additionally, it is both heat and water-resistant, perfect for having a leisurely drink close at hand while doing work. However, the desk mat does not come with slip grips, so it may be difficult to keep it in place when even slightly moving the PC.

The Orbitkey Desk Mat features a compact, built-in tray at the top where you can readily access small items like pens. Its layered design will make keeping your desk organized simple with places to place documents and notes.
It received high ratings for mouse maneuverability. Your mouse will glide over its even surface, making it easy to use for long work or gaming sessions. The soft and bouncy feel of this mat is a plus for comfort. It sports rounded corners that help prevent arms from becoming tired while typing for long periods.
Additionally, its heat and water resistance are notable. The mat doesn't stain easily, so it should maintain a clean appearance for a long time. However, it falls short when it comes to slip resistance. The underside is made from felt and lacks grip strength, so moving your PC means that the mat is coming with it. This mat may be difficult to use on narrow desk spaces.

The TaskPad desk mat made by KeySmart has a leather-like design. The built-in wireless charging pad, which can charge devices like phones and headphones placed on top of the mat.
This desk mat was rated highly for how it feels. Although it’s similar to leather, arms and hands don't feel clammy even when in contact with it for long periods of time. We also found mouse maneuverability worked quite smoothly on this desk mat. It's fit for anyone who uses a mouse for creating illustrations since it can be used very comfortably, on top of carrying out detailed actions with no lag.
While this desk mat is heat resistant, it lacks water resistance. Users who enjoy a beverage while working need to take care, as this mat may stain in the case of a spill. We were also disappointed to see that the top and bottom sides are made of the same material, with the bottom lacking proper slip resistance. It may be difficult to make the most of this desk mat without a large workspace.

The Mosen Large Merino Wool Felt Desk Pad by Graf & Lantz sports a stylish design made from felt. It's available in an abundant six colors, so you can choose the one that best fits your desk decor.
Our testers favorably noted that the mat prevented their arms from becoming clammy even after a long period of use. However, its fabric causes a bothersome prickly sensation against the skin. It also doesn't have the best water resistance, which means you should take care not to spill anything on it or risk staining it.
When testing mouse maneuverability, we noticed the mat felt rather bumpy when moving the mouse over it. Using a mouse on this desk mat for long work days may cause your wrists to tire out easily. We also found that both sides of this desk mat are made of felt, which means it can't grip the surface of a desk well and will slide around.

The Susig Desk Pad by Ikea is fashioned out of cork for a stylish look. It arrives at your door already rolled out, so you can use it immediately.
This mat did not perform well in our mouse maneuverability tests. The surface is slightly uneven, so it snags onto the mouse quite easily. This makes it difficult to control the cursor and may become a source of stress. We also found that it will soak up any spilled liquid, meaning it will probably stain quite easily.
When testing slip resistance, we found that this desk mat slides around quite easily since both sides are made from cork. Anyone bothered by their desk mat sliding off the edge of their workspace should look at other products. However, it doesn't make your arms or hands clammy during frequent mouse usage. Unfortunately, since the surface is rough and the edges are made to have a ripped appearance, it may start to hurt your wrists after extended use.
