Mobile phone and smartphone accessories, Wearable devices and smart watchesLooking for a bath towel that stays soft and fluffy after many uses, is thick and highly absorbent, and won't fray or unravel easily? Bath towels come in different materials, sizes, and thicknesses, with stores like Walmart and Target offering many choices. It can be hard to choose the right one, especially when you're shopping online.
We've compared 10 bestselling bath towels available online and tested them to recommend the best bath towel for you.
We tested each product for the following:
Which product ended up being the best of the best? In our buying guide, we'll also tell you how to pick the best bath towels, so read on for more shopping tips.

This test inspected the softness of each bath towel. We had six product testers touch each bath towel when brand new and again after it was washed one, five, and 10 times to rate each. Bath towels that felt fluffy and soft throughout the washes were rated highly.
This test inspected how absorbent each bath towel was. We cut out a five-by-eight-inch piece of each bath towel at four different intervals: when new, and after the first, fifth, and tenth washes. We hung them with their ends in colored water for 10 minutes and then measured how much water each absorbed by measuring how high up the color went. We gave high ratings to bath towels that soaked up lots of water at each interval and showed they could maintain their capacity for water absorption after multiple washes.
Bath towels are the most useful if they can dry quickly and be ready for subsequent use, so we checked and saw how long each would take to dry. Those that dried at the fastest rate were given the highest ratings. We cut each bath towel, already washed five times, into a two-and-a-quarter-inch square, poured three milliliters of water on it, and used an electronic scale to weigh it. We weighed it again after 20 minutes and calculated the rate of water loss from these two measurements.
It can be annoying if the lint from a bath towel sticks to you or the clothes you washed it with. So we put each bath towel in the washer and dryer with a velour cloth to check and see how much lint would end up sticking. A bath towel would receive high ratings if the velour cloth had no or a minimal amount of lint stuck to it.

Our tests for this article focused on the absorbency and feel of the towels we tested. If you're considering replacing your bath towels, read through our buying guide so that you can choose the best ones for you.
The materials used to make bath towels are mainly microfiber, cotton, or hemp. Our top recommendation is microfiber for something that feels the nicest to touch.
If a bath towel isn’t going to be laundered every time it’s used or if air-drying is preferred, then something quick-drying is needed. But we saw no significant difference between each fabric type and how fast each dries.
When we poured water on each towel and calculated the percent decrease in water content based on the difference in weights after 20 minutes of drying, we saw that all bath towels take a significant amount of time to dry completely.
Bath towels that were still soft, even after washing 10 times, were the microfiber options. Our product testers liked this, with many saying, "It has a softness that feels so good" and "It's extremely gentle and soft, just like a blanket."
Meanwhile, many of the cotton and hemp bath towels become stiffer and feel rough after washing them many times. We highly recommend microfiber for the softest bath towel with a velvety feel. In contrast, if you prefer something that feels firm and can wick away moisture quickly, you'll be content with cotton or hemp.
Has the lint from freshly purchased bath towels ever clung to your skin or stuck to clothes you washed them with? We washed and dried each bath towel with a test cloth made of velour fabric to see how much lint would stick and found that microfiber had the least amount of shedding. On the other hand, cotton and mixed cotton and hemp materials stood out for having the highest shedding. Microfiber bath towels are our top recommendation if you're considering which one sheds the least.
Our top recommendation among all the products we tested is the microfiber bath towel made by JML. This bath towel is likely to remain soft and pleasant to the touch for a long time, as our reviewers were delighted with how it felt, both when it was new and after washing it one, five, and even 10 times.
It also sheds very little, and the possibility of fluff sticking to freshly washed clothes or your skin is relatively low. It absorbs water great, which was impressive since the other microfiber bath towels tended to have poorer water absorbency.
If you have long hair or use your bath towel more than once daily, you might want something that can soak up the most. If choosing based on water absorbency, we recommend cotton bath towels.
We found that the products that could soak up the most water during our test were ones made of cotton. The cross-section of this natural fiber is characterized by having multiple bead-shaped circles lined up. The middles of these circles are hollow, so they can hold plenty of water compared to a synthetic fabric like microfiber.
Drying long hair takes a while, and if you take multiple showers a day, it might not have a chance to fully dry out in between uses. We highly recommend cotton bath towels if these situations apply to you.
If you want a towel that's cotton and pleasant to the touch, we recommend the Quick Dry Ribbed Towel Set by Threshold. Many of the cotton bath towels we tested became increasingly stiff the more they were washed and lost their fluffiness. However, the Threshold Quick Dry Ribbed towels stayed soft to the touch better than other cotton bath towels, retaining softness up to the fifth wash.

This microfiber bath towel by JML is available in a number of rich solid colors and patterns. It'll be easy to pick one that matches your bathroom's decor. It feels pleasant to the touch even after 10 washes and many of our product testers said, "It has a gentle feel that's remarkably soft." Even after repeated use, it never started to feel stiff.
From a brand-new state up to the tenth wash, this bath towel was able to soak water up to four and 3/8 inches or higher during our water absorbency test. It also didn't lose its absorbent capabilities after many wash cycles. It has a low chance of shedding on any clothes if they are washed together, as we found that very little lint comes off this bath towel. However, it takes time to dry. Our tests found that it had a lower rate of moisture reduction at 4.19 percent.

This set of bath towels by Moonqueen is made using microfiber. We love that it comes in abundant color variations. When we tested softness from when it was new to the tenth wash, a majority of our product testers said, "The feel of this bath towel is soft, fluffy, and so comfortable." We believe it's made to stay soft for a long time, since this bath towel won't get stiff easily after washing.
You won't see much lint from this bath towel sticking to the clothes it's washed with, as it sheds very little. It had an average result in our drying time test, with a moisture reduction rate of 4.84 percent. But absorbency wasn't great. From a brand-new state to the tenth wash, water was absorbed to heights between two and a quarter and three inches. This may not be the right choice if you need something to dry long hair.

This set of ribbed bath towels by Threshold is made of cotton. When testing if it stayed soft to the touch from freshly purchased to the tenth wash, this bath towel received good ratings. Our testers stated, "The fabric surface did feel a bit stiff, but still felt comparatively fluffy and durable." The downside we found was in how little this bath towel could soak up in our absorbency test, which resulted in moderate ratings.
Although drying tests resulted in a moderate 4.38 percent moisture reduction rate, because this is higher than other options, you'll have the option to dry this bath towel just by hanging it up. There was some lint found on our velour test cloth from this bath towel, so we advise you to avoid washing it with other clothes while it's still new. With all that said, we recommend considering this bath towel if you want the fluffy yet firm feeling distinct to cotton fabrics.

This bath towel by Ariv is made using a combination of cotton and bamboo viscose fabric. It's available in a rich assortment of colors including blush, duck egg, linen, and denim. This bath towel, when new, could only soak up water to a meager two and 3/4 inches, but it soaked up to an average height of three and 13/16 inches between the first and tenth wash, which resulted in moderate ratings for water absorbency.
This bath towel isn't the best if softness is a must, as many of our product reviewers said it was fluffy at first but became stiff after the fifth wash. Even more, it was regrettable to see its slow water reduction rate, of only 4.04 percent, which led to poorer scores in our test for drying time. It also may be irritating at how much lint this bath towel will shed on clothes when washed together, or even on your skin when drying off.

This is a set of four bath towels made of cotton by American Soft Linen. They also sell towels in other sizes, including hand towels and extra large bath sheets, if you want all your towels to match. We received many comments when this bath towel was new and after the first wash stating, "It's thick and has bulk to it, and the fuzzy pile on it is long and soft." However, we increasingly saw comments after the fifth and tenth wash saying, "The dried out, stiff feeling was concerning." This bath towel may not be able to maintain the fluffiness you feel when it's brand new.
We also saw that the entire velour test cloth was covered in lint when it was washed together with this bath towel, so we believe you shouldn't wash it with your other clothing at first. It achieved moderate ratings for drying speed, with a somewhat high 4.88 percent rate of moisture reduction. This bath towel has high water absorbency and is fit for anyone with long hair or who is looking for something that can soak up lots of water.

Fabric | Waffle |
This is a waffle-type bath towel by Gilden Tree and is only 1.5 millimeters thick, meaning a set will fold down small and save you room in your linen closet. This bath towel feels rough, and the rate of satisfaction from brand new to the tenth wash among our testers was repeatedly low. In addition, it was found during drying testing that it has a moisture reduction rate of 4.7 percent, which is slightly high compared to others, but not enough to say it can dry quickly.
However, it shed very little lint onto the velour test cloth, so there shouldn't be any worry about shedding after a few washes. It was also found that this bath towel can sufficiently wick away moisture after a bath, since it was able to soak water up to five and 3/16 inches. Make this a possible option if you like a stiffer feeling from your bath towels.

This is a bath towel by Cariloha made with a blend of Turkish cotton and viscose bamboo fibers that is accentuated by a striped pattern. When we checked how soft it was to touch, many testers said, "It's incredibly soft and has such a gentle feel to it," but ratings leveled off with more wash cycles as it became dry and stiff.
In our absorption test, the amount of water absorbed did increase after each wash, but it reached a maximum height of three and 7/8 inches of water absorbed, which is considered moderate. A drawback we saw was that it will require a lot of time to completely dry. It was also unfortunate to see how much this bath towel sheds, as the velour test cloth it was washed together with it was found covered in lint.

Fabric | Textured pile |
This is a bath towel set from Great Bay Home that is made of cotton and textured with a rugged lattice pattern. One of its appeals is the abundant color variations available, like ivory, blue, marigold, and many more. It lacks a fluffy feeling due to the thin fabric and the pattern, which produces roughness. Our testing found that the more you wash it, the stiffer it becomes.
It was able to soak up more water the more it was washed during our absorbency tests, but the end result was moderate, as it only soaked up to three and 13/16 inches. However, only a little bit of lint clung to the velour test cloth that was washed with this bath towel, so we believe it's safe to wash with any other clothing.

This is a jumbo-sized bath sheet by Utopia Towels with 2.8 millimeters of thickness that's great for anyone with a large physique. It dried slightly fast, with a moisture reduction rate of 4.36 percent found during testing. It has a soft feel and great resiliency while new, but started to feel hard after a single wash, which makes us believe the initial softness won't last.
It sheds an exceedingly high amount of lint, too, so it may be best to avoid washing this bath towel with other clothes while it's still new. This bath towel does absorb well, so make it one of the possible choices if you want something that can soak up the most water.

This is a bath towel by Anact that's made using cotton and hemp fabric. They're sold as a pair or four-piece set. We found the water absorbency to be consistent, as it could soak up to three and 15/16 inches or more from a new state to the tenth wash cycle. As far as feel, we found it to lack fluffiness and be more on the rough side, with an overall low degree of satisfaction. It was also unfortunate to see that it becomes even stiffer the more times it's washed.
This bath towel will take longer to dry, as our tests found it has a low moisture reduction rate of 4.05 percent. It would also be best if you avoid washing this with other clothes while it's still new, as it shed a lot of lint onto our velour test cloth when they were washed together.

We performed tests on the following four items.
Products we tested
