How We Tested the Products

Scroll to testing method
We gathered the 13 bestselling Electric Screwdrivers and put them through rigorous testing.
  1. Compactness

    Test① Compactness

An electric screwdriver isn't a tool most people will be using every day, which means you'll probably want it to be kept stored away. Our testers inspected the weight and size of each electric screwdriver when stored to rank their compactness. The lower the weight and smaller the size, the higher the rating we gave.

  2. Ease of Use

    Test② Ease of Use

Ease of use can greatly affect your work efficiency. We had five employees from the mybest editorial department evaluate each electric screwdriver for ease of use. We conducted a qualitative review by having our testers tighten screws on IKEA furniture.Ratings were assigned using the following four factors and their established criteria.Ease of handling: Is the shape and thickness easy to hold and slip resistant?Ease of operation: Can the forward/reverse functions and trigger be used easily?Ease of tightening screws: Does it have seamless torque adjustment settings, and steady operation with little vibration or wobbling?Use in tight spaces: Does the size affect work progress, and is it easy to work with in tight spaces?

  3. Power

    Test③ Power

We evaluated how much power each product is capable of exerting to see what jobs it would be capable of. Our testers tightened screws into both wood boards and IKEA furniture to measure how long it takes to finish. This was repeated five times, from which the average time was calculated. We made sure each product was fully charged, and maximized the torque and RPM of a product if these functions could be adjusted.One-by-four boards: We define the minimum time for efficient speed as 3.0 seconds, and the best time for maximum efficiency as 2.0 seconds.IKEA furniture: We define the minimum time for efficient speed as 3.0 seconds and most efficient speed as 1.0 second.

  4. Battery Life

    Test④ Battery Life

A better battery means you can get more work done without stopping to recharge, so our testers next conducted evaluations for battery life. We fully charged each electric screwdriver and drove screws into wood boards until the battery ran out. We then recorded the number of screws each product was able to fully tighten without stopping. In most cases, 70 screws or more will be needed to build things like desks or wall units; therefore, our testers gave high ratings to electric screwdrivers that could tighten this number or more.

  5. Functionality

    Test⑤ Functionality

Lastly, our testers evaluated the functionality of each electric screwdriver for features that improve work efficiency and user-friendliness. The following items were inspected and scored based on their degree of importance. Our evaluation was done using a points-based system. Is it equipped with an adjustable speed settings?Does it have an adjustable clutch?Does it include an LED light? Is the handle convertible?Does it have a battery indicator?Does it have a circuit detector?Does it include a carrying case?

What Kind of Jobs Is an Electric Screwdriver Good For?

Electric screwdrivers are useful for small jobs around the house or even larger DIY projects. Let's compare them to impact drivers, which do the same basic thing but have very different uses.

Electric Screwdrivers for Assembling Furniture and Minor DIY Projects, but Impact Drivers for Heavy-Duty Jobs

Electric Screwdrivers for Assembling Furniture and Minor DIY Projects, but Impact Drivers for Heavy-Duty Jobs

Electric and impact screwdrivers are both tools used to tighten screws, and their main differences lie in their power and purpose. Electric screwdrivers use simple rotational force to drive screws. They're best for minor DIY projects that don't require much power, like assembling furniture or building simple woodworking projects.

Impact drivers, on the other hand, are characterized by being able to powerfully turn screws while also applying a striking force with a built-in hammer. These tools are better suited for heavy-duty projects, as they can secure screws into materials like two-by-fours or hardwoods.

If you're interested in impact drivers, check out our article on those.

For Use Around the Home, How Much Should I Expect to Spend?

Electric screwdriver prices vary online, and can be anywhere from 20 dollars to over 100. We'll be guiding you through what price range is recommended for an electric screwdriver that you can use to assemble furniture or for little repairs around your home in this article.

$30 Is Fine for Basic Use, but Consider Something More for Heavy-Duty DIY

$30 Is Fine for Basic Use, but Consider Something More for Heavy-Duty DIY

An electric screwdriver that costs around 30 dollars is perfect to keep around the house to put furniture together or do minor home repairs. We conducted some tests for this buying guide and found that electric screwdrivers around 30 dollars worked great to drive screws into IKEA furniture. You’ll only need a few screws for things like chairs and shelves, which means a 30-dollar electric screwdriver is sufficient. A product in this price range will have enough power and battery life to assemble any small-sized furniture. On the other hand, we recommend something 80 dollars or more if you'll be assembling large items like a bed or entertainment center. Electric screwdrivers in this price range tend to come with the power and battery life to make it through this more strenuous work.

How to Choose an Electric Screwdriver - Buying Guide

Here are the points to keep in mind when choosing the best Electric Screwdrivers.

① There Are 4 Main Types - Straight Barrel Is Best for Around the Home

There Are 4 Main Types - Straight Barrel Is Best for Around the Home

Electric screwdrivers come in different shapes: straight barrel, pistol grip, convertible, and drill types. Although each is different, mybest recommends the straight-barrel type electric screwdriver for most uses.

A Straight Barrel Is Simplest and Easiest to Use

A Straight Barrel Is Simplest and Easiest to Use

Straight barrel electric screwdrivers are appealing for their simplicity, which even a beginner will find easy to use. They have the familiar shape of a manual screwdriver and are not hard to figure out even if you aren't familiar with power tools, since they can tighten screws with the push of a button. Other types of electric screwdrivers require you to fidget with the switches and triggers to use it in reverse, so they end up feeling a little more troublesome.

Another great aspect of straight barrel electric screwdrivers is how little space they take up. They are quite easy to store and can compactly fit inside any drawer or tool box.

Plenty of Power in Straight Barrel Types for Seamless Furniture Assembly

Plenty of Power in Straight Barrel Types for Seamless Furniture Assembly

Are you worried about your straight barrel electric screwdriver having enough power to serve its intended purpose? The tests we ran to evaluate each type showed that straight models have power that is in no way inferior to other models.

When assembling furniture, for instance, we found that it only took a meager 1.38 seconds, on average, to tighten one screw. Considering that some other types had an average time of 2.5 seconds or more, we believe that straight barrel electric screwdrivers can drive screws fast enough.

② Convertible or Drill Types for DIY Projects

Straight barrel types are convenient for smaller jobs, but they aren't the best for bigger DIY projects that require more power. We recommend convertible or drill models if you'll be using your electric screwdriver for purposes other than furniture assembly, such as building a desk or wall unit.

$30 Convertible Types Are Recommended for Small DIY Projects

$30 Convertible Types Are Recommended for Small DIY Projects

If you'll be making relatively small things like chairs or shelving, we recommend a convertible electric screwdriver around $30. Convertible models can make the progress of your projects go smoothly since they can be used in awkward angles without any extra strength put into it.

A straight barrel type is difficult to put any power behind if you're using it pointing straight down, because the barrel slips. However, a convertible model has a horizontal handle which you can lean your weight into for more force. Convertible models can also be changed into an elongated shape that makes them more compact to store away compared to pistol grip or drill type electric screwdrivers.

For Heavy-Duty DIY Projects, Choose the Powerful Drill Type

For Heavy-Duty DIY Projects, Choose the Powerful Drill Type

We recommend a drill type electric screwdriver if you'll be doing heavy-duty projects such as building beds and entertainment centers or projects that use materials like resins or plastics.

One of the tests we ran involved figuring out how long it took for different types to tighten screws into one-by-four boards. The results showed that drill models were more than three times faster at tightening screws compare to other types. You'll have no trouble finishing your larger DIY projects if you use a drill type electric screwdriver.

Drill models can also come equipped with functions that allow you to adjust the force and speed, as well as adjustable clutch settings. If you'll be working with materials other than wood, you can prevent overtightening screws and damaging your materials with an adjustable drill model.

③ In General, Don't Worry About Battery Life

Battery life is probably one of the concerns you may have regarding electric screwdrivers. This aspect can have a significant influence on the progress of your projects, so make sure to choose one that fits the type of work you'll be doing.

Any Electric Screwdriver Will Last Long Enough to Put Together Furniture

Any Electric Screwdriver Will Last Long Enough to Put Together Furniture

If furniture assembly is all you need an electric screwdriver for, then don't worry about the battery running out. When we tested battery life by tightening screws into one-by-fours, we found that every electric screwdriver was able to secure more than 20 screws before running out of battery.

There's a bigger burden on a battery when tightening screws into boards compared to assembling furniture, but the latter often uses more screws. You won't have any issues with battery life if you'll be using an electric screwdriver to assemble things like IKEA furniture, as most products often use less than 20 screws for assembly.

Longer Battery Life Needed if You're Building Things From Scratch

Longer Battery Life Needed if You're Building Things From Scratch

Choose something with a longer battery life if you plan to build larger furniture like beds or wall units, which typically require a lot of screws to complete. There were some drill, pistol grip, and convertible models that could fasten 70 or more screws into one-by-four boards on one charge. Choose one of these models for a heavy-duty DIY project where you'll be driving in a lot of screws.

④ Two Must-Have Additional Features

Here are some additional useful features to improve your work efficiency and to increase the user-friendliness of your electric screwdriver.

Automatic Light Improves Your Aim

Automatic Light Improves Your Aim

Make your work more convenient with a built-in light to illuminate your work area for the times when you're doing work somewhere dark or hard to see. We especially recommend a model with an LED light that comes on automatically when you turn on your electric screwdriver. Any model with a manual light switch will require more time before you can get to work or can lead to a dead battery if you forget to turn it off.

Check Your Remaining Battery Life With an Indicator

Check Your Remaining Battery Life With an Indicator

A battery indicator is a feature that shows you the battery status of your electric screwdriver with a small lamp. You'll be able to check your remaining battery life with a glance and know how long you can work for. You'll end up frustrated if you begin work without realizing your battery is almost dead. Put a stop to that by purchasing a model that includes a battery indicator.

mybest's Top Choice! Powerful and Compact, It's Great for Assembling Furniture

This is a straight barrel-type electric screwdriver by Ryobi boasting great compactness. According to the manufacturer, it’s 45 percent smaller than its predecessor. Our testers confirmed that this option is easy to use in tight spaces and near walls, and can be stored in any drawer or toolbox without taking up too much space. In fact, this is the most compact one we tested.

The straight barrel is appealing for the shape, similar to a manual screwdriver. The thin handle has a rubber grip that anyone would get used to in no time. This product can tighten or loosen screws with the push of a button, making its use intuitive. Our testers found that it doesn’t wobble easily when tightening screws and has almost no vibrational feedback. They said it was lightweight and easy to work with.

The average time it took to tighten screws into IKEA furniture was 1.87 seconds, and the average time it took to screw into wood was 5.13 seconds. This electric screwdriver is better suited for putting together pre-made furniture and doing repairs around the house than DIY or building furniture from scratch. Our test for battery life showed that this product can tighten 48 screws into wood on a single charge. It may be difficult to use for woodworking, but definitely has the battery life to put together chairs and desks from any home goods stores.

There weren’t many features to improve your workflow such as a battery indicator, speed settings, or adjustable clutch. However, we liked the automatic light that’ll light up any dark spaces. This electric screwdriver is sleek, has plenty of power to assemble furniture, and is easily operated even if you've never used a tool like this before.

Sufficient Power for Assembling Furniture and Includes a Handy Circuit Detector

This straight barrel driver by Skil allows you to stay safe knowing that the outlets or switches you’re working on have no electric current running through them by using the included voltage sensor. You can use this electric screwdriver in tight spaces or by walls with no extra hassle. The small size means it can be stored away in a drawer or tool box. The rubber grip is decently thick, easy to hold, and resistant to slips even if your hands become a little sweaty. You can even lock the spindle to turn it into a manual screwdriver.

It wobbles a bit when tightening screws, but not so much that it would impact your work. We were also fond of its light weight and how little vibrational feedback this driver gave off. The average time to tighten screws into IKEA furniture was found to be 1.89 seconds. It took an average of 5.87 seconds to tighten screws into wood. Woodworking will clearly take more time, but this electric screwdriver has enough power to assemble furniture with pilot holes and to handle repairs around the house.

Our testers were able to tighten 41 screws into one-by-fours on a single charge during the evaluation for battery life. There was plenty of battery life available to assemble commercial furniture, for instance, but not so much for heavy-duty DIY work. It was pretty lacking for functionality since the clutch and speed settings aren’t adjustable, and there’s no indicator to check remaining battery life. However, this driver is great for the automatic LED light and the circuit detector that'll help you prevent electric shocks.

Sleek Size and Features an Easy-to-Read Battery Indicator

The 4V MAX Cordless Screwdriver is a straight-barrel electric screwdriver by Craftsman. You can avoid unexpected work interruptions with the three-stage battery level indicator. It's about the same size as a manual screwdriver, so no issues will come up in narrow spaces or by walls. This driver can be put away in any drawer or tool box, too.

The handle also has a narrow part that is made with rubber padding for easy gripping. Your finger will naturally place itself on the trigger button so you can use this driver off intuition alone. It works smoothly with barely any vibration, on top of being lightweight and user-friendly. On average, it took 1.78 seconds to drive screws into IKEA furniture, and 4.33 seconds to do so into wood. It won’t be quick and easy to drive screws into wood, but this electric screwdriver has enough power to assemble furniture or when you need to tighten up some screws around the house.

Battery life test results showed that a single charge is capable of driving 20 screws into wood boards. This product isn't the best for heavy-duty DIY work, but there won’t be any problems with battery life while assembling furniture that comes with pre-drilled holes. This electric screwdriver includes a battery indicator, but no adjustable clutch or speed settings. The equipped indicator light makes it easy to check on remaining battery life. You'll even be able to work in dark spaces using the automatic LED light.

Good Battery Life and Power, but Switch Could Be Improved

The Dremel Electric Screwdriver by Bosch is a straight-barrel electric driver, uniquely equipped with a clutch. Its compact size makes it easy to operate in tight spaces and corners, and it doesn't take up much room in a drawer or toolbox. Compared to other straight-barrel drivers, it's slightly thicker, so some people might find it difficult to hold. The switch is also situated quite low, requiring you to adjust your finger each time you press it. It tends to slip when trying to loosen tight screws, which is obviously not ideal.

However, the power it delivers is impressive. On average, it took about 1.42 seconds to tighten screws on IKEA furniture and about 2.7 seconds for screws into wood. It's not just for assembling furniture, it's also suitable for woodworking. In terms of battery life, it was able to drive 224 screws into one-by-four boards. This offers more than enough power for assembling furniture, and even creating a desk or shelving unit from scratch.

The additional features are kept to a bare minimum. There's no gear shifting function, LED light, or battery indicator. However, it does have a clutch, which is attractive because it allows you to adjust the power and prevent over-tightening of screws.

A Bit Bulky, but Its Power and Long-Lasting Battery Make It an Attractive Choice

The Quickturn Screwdriver from RYOBI is a convertible electric driver with an adjustable handle that boasts an ergonomically designed grip for optimum user comfort. It's somewhat on the large side, so even in straight-barrel mode, it’s a bit bulky for storage. However, it's not as large as a drill, so working close to a wall or in tight spaces shouldn't be too challenging.

The handle is a good thickness and fits comfortably in the hand, and the grip feels well-designed. When holding the driver in your right hand, your finger naturally overlaps the trigger, making it smooth to operate. It’s also easy to use since there’s little wobble or slip when tightening screws. On average, it took about 1.36 seconds to tighten screws on IKEA furniture and about 1.83 seconds to drive screws into wood. It offers enough power not just for furniture assembly, but also for woodworking.

In terms of battery life, it managed to drive 183 screws into one-by-four boards. This would be sufficient for assembling furniture as well as larger DIY projects. Although it lacks a clutch, battery indicator, and LED light, making it inconvenient for longer projects, it has an attractive feature that allows you to switch speeds according to the task and your level of skill.

Adjustable Torque and Speed for Any Kind of Work

This cordless screwdriver is a convertible type by Metabo HPT. It's easy to store it away and take with you anywhere using the included carrying case. It’s a little bulkier than other higher-end products and would probably be harder to work with in narrow spaces or by walls. But when not in use, it can be easily stored away, thanks to its ability to change into a straight barrel-type driver.

While the handle is slightly thick, our testers felt it was easy to hold because of the finger indents in the rubber grip. While in your right hand, your finger will naturally gravitate towards the trigger to make operation quite easy. Our testers were quite relaxed when working as they didn't feel any wobbling or harsh vibrations passing through to their hands.

The time it took to fasten screws into IKEA furniture was, on average, 1.26 seconds, and 1.95 seconds for wood. There was enough power displayed not only for assembling furniture, but also for woodworking. We were able to tighten 35 screws into wood boards during the battery life test, which is enough to put furniture with pilot holes together and tighten up loose screws around the house, but isn’t the best to drive in a bunch of screws all over your work site.

Rich in features, this electric screwdriver has adjustable clutch settings to set the torque to 21 different levels and can switch between two different speed settings. You can even drive screws into plastics or soft woods without cracking or breaking anything. Although there’s no battery indicator, you won’t have any work troubles with the included automatic light.

Not Convertible and Slightly Bulky, but Battery Lasts Exceptionally Long

SKIL's Rechargeable 4V Cordless Screwdriver is a pistol-grip type electric driver. It features a bit holder, allowing for quick access to frequently used bits. Though it's relatively lightweight, it isn’t convertible, so it takes up a bit of space when storing. However, it's smaller than drill-type models, making it convenient to use close to walls or in tight spaces. The handle is a comfortable thickness, and even people with smaller hands should find it easy to grip.

Operation is as simple as pulling the trigger, like most other pistol-grip types, and the forward/reverse switch is conveniently located. While there was a slight sense of slip and wobble when reversing, it did not significantly impact operation. On average, it took about 1.6 seconds to tighten screws on IKEA furniture and about 3.6 seconds to drive screws into wood. Although it’s a bit on the slower side, it offers sufficient power for furniture assembly and tightening loose screws.

In the battery life test, it was able to drive 261 screws into one-by-fours. The battery longevity is comparable to top-tier products. While it doesn't feature speed or clutch functions, it comes equipped with a battery indicator. This allows you to check the remaining battery life at a glance, making it easy to know when to recharge. Also, the LED light turns on automatically, saving you the hassle of pressing a switch when you need a work light.

Takes up Space, but Has Great Battery Life

Designed for sleekness, this pistol grip screwdriver by WEN can drive screws in hard to reach spaces and walls. It’s a little big compared to other electric screwdrivers, so make sure to clear up some space to store it away. But you’ll have no issue holding the thick handle due to the bump on the lower portion for your pinky to secure itself to. Made with anti-slip materials, it’ll be pretty difficult for this to slide out of your hand. It can be powered on with ease with just the pull of a trigger.

On the other hand, our testers weren’t fond of the switch that changes the driving direction, given how small and hard to flip it was. We felt a bit of vibrational feedback when using this tool, but could fasten screws without any issue. The average time to tighten screws with this electric screwdriver was 1.81 seconds with IKEA furniture and 5.04 seconds with wood boards. Fastening screws into wood will be somewhat time-consuming, but it has sufficient power to set up furniture and tighten up loose screws.

A single charge of this product was able to tighten 128 screws into boards during our battery life test. There will be no worries, not just with furniture assembly, but also when you need to tighten many screws during larger DIY jobs. This electric screwdriver includes a battery indicator, but doesn't have an adjustable clutch or speed settings. The indicator lamp turns on when the battery is getting low, letting you prepare for any work interruptions in advance. It also features an automatic LED light and includes a carrying case.

Long Battery Life, but Modest Power

This convertible screwdriver by Black+Decker features a pivoting handle with three different positions to choose from to fit any angle you need to work in. Compared to the higher-end tools, this product is a little bulky, and the head is a little too large to fit anywhere narrow. But you won't have any issue storing this driver away with its pivoting shape.

Our testers thought the slightly thick handle was a bit difficult to hold onto because of the trigger's awkward fit and design. The toggle to switch between forward and reverse was difficult to switch with one hand, while the button to adjust the handle position is quite stiff and requires a bit of force to push in. With all that said, the trigger is easy to use and works with just a little push.

There is little wobble when tightening screws, and our testers didn't feel a lot of harsh vibrational feedback during use. When driving screws into IKEA furniture and wood, the average times were 3.89 seconds for the former and 5.72 seconds for the latter. We felt that, in either case, this was too long and not efficient. When we conducted tests for battery life, this drill could tighten 181 screws into one-by-fours on a single charge. This product has a battery life that is in no way inferior to higher-end models.

On the other hand, this electric screwdriver doesn't have much functionality, with no speed settings, adjustable clutch, or battery indicator. Even the LED light needs to be turned on manually, which made this feature feel a little troublesome.

Has a Learning Curve, but Is Well-Equipped for DIY Tasks

DeWalt's Gyroscopic Screwdriver is an electric driver equipped with an adjustable handle and a built-in gyroscope. When tilted to the right, the driver rotates clockwise, and when tilted to the left it rotates counterclockwise. However, changing the direction of rotation using the incline sensor could be challenging until you get the hang of it, especially for vertical screwing or unscrewing tasks. Although it's relatively lightweight, it’s bulky even in the in-line handle position, so it'll likely require a bit of space for storing. Also, its size might make it difficult to use in tight spaces or close to the wall, even when in pistol-grip mode.

The handle is designed with a comfortable thickness and a non-slip grip. On average, it tightens screws on IKEA furniture in about 1.5 seconds, and drives screws into wood in approximately 2.02 seconds. This makes it not only suitable for assembling furniture but also for tackling extensive woodworking projects. In the battery life test, it was able to drive 316 screws into one-by-four boards. This indicates a considerably long-lasting battery, and should be enough to build a desk or wall storage from scratch without recharging.

As for additional features, it comes with a clutch, speed switching function, battery charge indicator, and LED light, offering a range of functions that serious DIY enthusiasts will appreciate. A handy carrying case is also included, making transport and storage a breeze.

Long-Lasting Battery, but Requires Extra Storage Space

This pistol grip electric screwdriver by Worx is known for the six bits built into it that can be changed using a sliding mechanism. The overall size, including the head, is too large to use anywhere narrow. This electric screwdriver may take up a lot of space in your toolbox, too, since you can’t adjust the handle’s angle.

We found that this electric screwdriver was difficult to hold because of the thick handle, the protruding trigger, and the heavy weight of it. The handle also has no anti-slip material, so it may slip out if your hands are sweaty. We did find it very user-friendly, since we were able to pull the trigger with little effort, and saw that the forward and reverse settings can be easily changed by flicking a switch. Although we felt some vibrations during use, our testers were able to efficiently tighten up screws.

The average amount of time it took to drive screws into IKEA furniture was calculated at 1.98 seconds, while it took an average of 4.40 seconds for wood. Although a little slower when using this product on wood, it has enough power to put furniture together and fix up any loose screws. The test for battery life showed that a single charge is able to drive 117 screws into wooden boards. One full battery cycle will last long enough for more heavy-duty woodworking jobs. There are no speed settings, adjustable clutch settings, or battery indicator, but the automatic LED light does add some convenience.

Bulky, but Powerful Enough for Serious DIY Work

The M12 Screwdriver Kit from Milwaukee Tool is a drill-type electric driver that features a quick-change chuck to allow for effortless one-handed bit changes. The driver’s somewhat larger size might make it a bit awkward to use in tight spaces or close to walls. It will also require a fair amount of space when storing. Its hefty weight and thicker handle could make it challenging to use for those with smaller hands. However, the grip, which is solid even if your hands are sweaty, makes it a reliable tool for summer projects.

The operation is straightforward, similar to most drivers, and switching between forward and reverse is smooth and easy, offering a good level of control. On average, it tightened IKEA furniture screws in just 1.09 seconds, and drove screws into wood in about 1.57 seconds. This high power output makes it a valuable tool not only for assembling furniture but also for larger-scale woodworking projects. In battery life testing, it successfully drove 512 screws into one-by-four boards, indicating battery life sufficient for larger projects such as furniture assembly, wall-mounted storage creation, or even constructing a wood deck.

When it comes to added features, this tool impresses with its 14 clutch settings and dual-speed functionality. It also has a built-in battery indicator to prevent unexpected interruptions to your work due to a drained battery. The LED light turns on automatically during work for added convenience, plus it comes with a handy carrying case for transport and storage.

Heavy, Bulky, but Perfect for Serious DIYers

The 2-Speed Pocket Driver Kit is a drill-type electric screwdriver by Bosch. This electric screwdriver is great for the adjustable torque and speed settings that make it easy to use for serious DIY projects. It's larger than most other similar tools, which makes it somewhat difficult to use anywhere with little space. It'll need its own designated space to store it, too, if you'll be keeping it in the included carrying case.

We really liked the rubber handle that makes it harder to drop, and how well it fit in our hands. This tool is quite heavy and will require a bit of stamina to keep using it for an extended period of time, but we were able to push in the trigger and switch the forward and reverse direction settings using hardly any effort. One of its good aspects is how little vibration we felt and how well we were able to drive in screws because of that.

Driving screws into IKEA furniture took, on average, 1.06 seconds, while doing the same for wood took an average of 1.32 seconds. You'll be able to use the massive power potential packed into this electric screwdriver not only when you assemble furniture, but also when doing heavy-duty woodworking projects. Our tests for battery life found that this tool can tighten 902 screws into wood on one charge. It provides plenty of battery life to piece together furniture, tighten up loose screws around the house, and even handle large-scale woodworking projects.

As for functionality, it is equipped with 21 adjustable clutch settings and the ability to switch between two speeds. This should make it easier to prevent any damage to the materials you're working with. While there isn't a battery indicator included, you'll find the automatic LED light quite convenient for work. And on top of that, this electric screwdriver comes with its own carrying case.

Test① Compactness

Compactness

An electric screwdriver isn't a tool most people will be using every day, which means you'll probably want it to be kept stored away. Our testers inspected the weight and size of each electric screwdriver when stored to rank their compactness. The lower the weight and smaller the size, the higher the rating we gave.

Test② Ease of Use

Ease of Use

Ease of use can greatly affect your work efficiency. We had five employees from the mybest editorial department evaluate each electric screwdriver for ease of use. We conducted a qualitative review by having our testers tighten screws on IKEA furniture.

Ratings were assigned using the following four factors and their established criteria.

  • Ease of handling: Is the shape and thickness easy to hold and slip resistant?
  • Ease of operation: Can the forward/reverse functions and trigger be used easily?
  • Ease of tightening screws: Does it have seamless torque adjustment settings, and steady operation with little vibration or wobbling?
  • Use in tight spaces: Does the size affect work progress, and is it easy to work with in tight spaces?

Test③ Power

Power

We evaluated how much power each product is capable of exerting to see what jobs it would be capable of. Our testers tightened screws into both wood boards and IKEA furniture to measure how long it takes to finish. This was repeated five times, from which the average time was calculated. We made sure each product was fully charged, and maximized the torque and RPM of a product if these functions could be adjusted.

  • One-by-four boards: We define the minimum time for efficient speed as 3.0 seconds, and the best time for maximum efficiency as 2.0 seconds.
  • IKEA furniture: We define the minimum time for efficient speed as 3.0 seconds and most efficient speed as 1.0 second.

Test④ Battery Life

Battery Life

A better battery means you can get more work done without stopping to recharge, so our testers next conducted evaluations for battery life. We fully charged each electric screwdriver and drove screws into wood boards until the battery ran out. We then recorded the number of screws each product was able to fully tighten without stopping.

In most cases, 70 screws or more will be needed to build things like desks or wall units; therefore, our testers gave high ratings to electric screwdrivers that could tighten this number or more.

Test⑤ Functionality

Functionality

Lastly, our testers evaluated the functionality of each electric screwdriver for features that improve work efficiency and user-friendliness. The following items were inspected and scored based on their degree of importance. Our evaluation was done using a points-based system.

  • Is it equipped with an adjustable speed settings?
  • Does it have an adjustable clutch?
  • Does it include an LED light?
  • Is the handle convertible?
  • Does it have a battery indicator?
  • Does it have a circuit detector?
  • Does it include a carrying case?
