Table of Contents
Here are the points to keep in mind when choosing the best Ironing Boards.
Ironing boards come in two main types: a tabletop type that can be used on top of your table, and a standing type that doesn't require a table.
If you iron frequently, we recommend the tabletop type. This type is small and lightweight, so they save space and can be used right away. Some even come with a hanger attachment, making it possible to store in your closet.
On the other hand, standing types are tall and may not be aesthetically pleasing in your living room. Furthermore, they typically weigh ten pounds or more, which makes it a hassle to take out and use every day.
For everyday use, we recommend tabletop types that are easier to store, which can be done in between furniture or in your living room corner.
Note that tabletop types are typically smaller. However, all the boards we tested this time were 27 inches by 11 inches (half the size of an L-sized shirt) or bigger, which should pose no issue unless you need to iron large-sized items.
The JALL Table Top Ironing Board made by Ikea requires little effort to open and close its legs, and doesn't have any stubborn switches or levels for an overall easy operation experience. In contrast, other boards require a bit of elbow grease to open the legs, or have stiff levers. In order to avoid smashing your fingers or stressing out trying to use your ironing board, we recommend Ikea's JALL Table Top Ironing Board.
The stability of your ironing board is another crucial point to consider for stress-free everyday usage. Ikea's JALL Table Top Ironing Board comes equipped with rubber non-slip grips to help it absorb and withstand any movement while ironing.
Furthermore, the part between the board and legs is seamless and will not wobble. Meanwhile, other ironing boards may not come with non-slip grips or may have gaps between the board and stand, which may cause it to be unstable and make ironing a stressful challenge.
The JALL Table Top Ironing Board by Ikea leaves your shirts with a crisp, clean look after ironing. After conducting tests by washing and ironing a 100% cotton shirt, our product testers gave high ratings for the excellent quality of finish observed.
They mentioned that "wrinkles are of no concern" and that the shirts had a "clean finish that felt comfortable to wear."
With Ikea's JALL Table Top Ironing Board, clothes can be ironed in one-go with no need to re-iron, saving both time and effort.
Standing ironing boards allow you to work on your clothes as you stand, and don't require a table to set it on. They also have spacious ironing surfaces, which makes it easier to iron large items like bedsheets and large-sized shirts. If you have enough space to leave it out, you can just keep your ironing equipment on top and eliminate the hassle of taking it out each time.
But keep in mind that a standing-type ironing board may be less stable due to their large size and skinny legs, which, if it topples frequently, might become stressful in the long run.

The JALL Tabletop Ironing Board by Ikea claims to have high durability with its steel frame.
This board received high ratings when testing for its ease of storage. Measuring at approximately 28 inches in length and 12 inches in width, this board is compact enough to fit into tight spaces such as next to your TV stand or between your washing machine. It also includes a hanger for convenient closet storage and the board's ample surface area will make ironing your shirts a stress-free task.
Another appealing feature of this board is the effortless operation of its legs, along with the added stability provided by rubber non-slip grips that stop it from wobbling. Quality of finish testing also revealed that it effectively smoothed out minor wrinkles in the test fabric, indicating no issues in this regard.
Overall, in terms of ease of storage, usability, and quality, this is our top-rated product.

This Tabletop Ironing Board sold by Whitmor is characterized by a foam-padded cotton cover.
It has high ratings for ease of storage, and although it doesn't come with a hanger, its 32-inch length and 12-inch width size is small enough to be stored in tight spaces. Consider this board if you need something that can fit between furniture or in your living room. It has a spacious ironing surface, so you won't face any problems when ironing your shirts.
Furthermore, this ironing board earned a high rating for ease of opening and closing due to its effortless setup. The connection between the board and legs is seamless, ensuring stability and minimal wobbling. However, quality of finish only brought in low ratings. Our product testers noted that, "I noticed minor wrinkles all over my clothes."

The Counter Top Lightweight Ironing Board is available through Mainstays, weighing at only 2.45 pounds.
It has a length of 30.25 inches and width of 12 inches, making it perfect to keep under your bed or in your laundry room cabinet. We also love that it has a hanger attachment for easier storage in the closet. We even think it has a wide enough ironing surface to work on your shirts and handkerchiefs.
However, this board has stiff legs and requires a bit of strength to close them, which led to only passable results for ease of opening and closing, and may not be suitable for those with less strength. Quality of finish tests also ended with mediocre results, as the finer wrinkles of our test cloth weren't smoothed out. The ironing board even wobbled when we placed some items on its edge, negatively impacting its stability ratings.

This Foldable, Space-Saving, Compact Table-Top Ironing Board from Xabitat does everything its name suggests and even comes with a storage bin for your iron.
This ironing board measures 16-inches in length and 12-inches in width, and folds down for easy storage on your bookshelf or in your cabinet. It also has a spacious ironing surface to smooth out your shirt wrinkles. Ease of opening and closing also earned good marks, as it opens easily by lightly pulling the switch on the underside. The board remains still during ironing, resulting in high ratings for board stability.
However, quality of finish ratings were on the lower end, as the board could not effectively smooth out small wrinkles.

This DANKA Ironing Board by Ikea is made with a heat-resistant silicon pad to store and protect your ironing equipment.
Ease of opening and closing testing found that the standing legs pop out just by pulling the lever beneath the board with minimal effort, which resulted in high ratings. It also has an ironing surface with dimensions of 47-inches in length and 14-inches in width, which is great for ironing bedsheets and large pieces of clothing. However, with its larger size and 12.12 pound weight, it is not ideal to take in and out every day.
Board stability was rated positively, since the legs are wide and have non-slip grips attached. It also received high praise for quality of finish when we ironed clothes on it. If you don't intend to stow away your ironing board and just have it out in your laundry room, this board may be worth considering.

Ikea's RUTER Ironing Board has an ironing surface made with a highly permeable and absorbent fabric.
Although it's on the heavy side at 7.7 pounds, this board can be set up or put away by simply lifting the attached lever. It also has plenty of room to iron your bedsheets and large shirts with a surface that measures 42.5 inches in length and 13 inches in width.
At the same time, its bulkiness eats up a significant amount of storage space, contributing to lower ratings. Moreover, the board isn't very stable due to its thin, long legs. Quality of finish ratings also suffered, since it couldn't smooth out the wrinkles in our test cloth.

Target's Standard Ironing Board in White Metal contains a cotton layer on top of a padded cover to prevent burn marks.
This board received high ratings when testing for ease of opening and closing, as the legs can be set up effortlessly with the push of a lever. In addition, the ironing surface is big enough for you to iron your bedsheets and oversized shirts.
However, ease of storage received low ratings. Given its dimensions of 53 inches in length and 13.5 inches in width, this board requires a considerable amount of storage space and may feel out of place when leaned against your living room wall. Additionally, it features thin standing legs and lacks stability, as the board wobbles whenever clothes are being ironed. Quality of finish testing also revealed that it has a hard time getting small wrinkles out, resulting in mediocre ratings.

This Homecare Velocity Ironing Board sold by Minky Homecare comes with a steam-safe angled rest where you can temporarily set your iron off to the side.
It received high ratings for ease of opening and closing, as you can set up or close the legs quite easily by simply pressing a lever. The board also offers a sufficiently wide ironing surface for your shirts. However, due to its size, it can appear imposing if leaned up against your wall when not in use.
We also observed that the board wobbles during ironing due to its slender legs. Additionally, it did not receive high ratings for quality of finish, as many wrinkles remained on the test cloth even after ironing.

This Honey-Can-Do International's Over-the-Door Compact Folding Ironing Board comes with a hook attachment and can be used while hung on a door.
The board can be easily opened and closed by simply pushing on the lever. With a broad that measures 50 inches in length and 16.38 inches in width, it has more than enough space for ironing your bedsheets and large clothing items.
However, it didn't score well for ease of storage, since its size would make it stand out and get in the way if stored in the living room. Board stability also received low ratings, as the ironing surface is large, yet the legs are too skinny to support the weight, so the entire board tips to the side when ironing. Quality of finish testing also found that there were large wrinkles still remaining after ironing.

This Freestanding T-Leg Ironing Board from Seymour Mfg can be freely adjusted to a height of 35 inches.
It can be folded up with the simple push of a lever, giving it high ratings in the ease of opening and closing aspect. It also has the advantage of a spacious ironing surface to make ironing your oversized shirts a breeze. Quality of finish testing saw that, although it removed large wrinkles, finer ones were still noticeable upon closer inspection, which resulted in average ratings.
This board measures 53 inches in length and 14 inches in width, making it too large to store between furniture and losing it some points for ease of storage. Additionally, the large ironing surface in combination with skinny legs result in inadequate support, and causes the board to be unstable and topple sideways.

This Foldable Tabletop Ironing Board with Iron Rest by Honey-Can-Do International includes a metal iron rest to safely place your iron on.
This ironing board is rated highly for ease of storage. The ironing surface can be folded in half, which allows compact storage. It also has an ironing surface that measures 32 inches in length and 12 inches in width, which we believe to be adequately large and easy to use.
However, the quality of finish is subpar. Our tests found that some fine wrinkles still remained. Ratings for ease of opening and closing were also low. We were unable to get the legs to lock in place properly, and believe this can lead to feelings of frustrations. Board stability testing also found that this ironing board will be hard to use, since it doesn't come with non-slip grips and probably won't stay in place while ironing.

We gathered 11 of the best-selling ironing boards from retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Staples and put each one to the test to determine which is the best of the best. At mybest, we define the best ironing board as one that is compact for easy storage, opens and closes smoothly, is stable and unmoving during use, and provides a quality finish.
To find the product described above, we performed tests based on the following five factors:
Products we tested
We measured each ironing board from edge to edge, and the smaller the size, the higher the rating, since we anticipate it will be put away next to a TV stand or in between furniture.
Standard of Measurement:
Measure board width and height while the ironing board is folded down
We asked five product testers who use ironing boards often to open and close each ironing board, and give ratings based on the following points.
Evaluation Points:
We asked five product testers who use ironing boards regularly to take each product, iron their clothes, and rate board stability based on the following points.
We measured the length and width of each product and, while using a large-sized shirt as the standard for a good size, gave higher ratings to boards with a larger surface area.
Standard of Measurement:
Measure board width and height while the ironing board is opened
Shirt size used for reference:
Shoulder width approximately 31 inches and length approximately 18 inches
We washed a 20 centimeter squared piece of cotton fabric, ironed it three to four times, and asked five product testers who wear suits regularly to rate the quality of finish based on the following points.
Evaluation Points:
We suggest ironing a dress shirt in the following order: collar, cuffs, sleeves, shoulder, the back, and lastly, the front. For the collar, iron the underside first and then check it from the front, and start the cuffs from the inside first as well, paying attention to the areas around the buttons when you examine them from the outside. Next, iron the underarm seams along one side, gently folding the top of the sleeve with your fingers as you’re pressing to make a nice crease at the top of the sleeve.
After that, with the sleeves hanging off the board, iron the shoulders and shoulder seams. Then, using the wide part of the board if it is easier, start with the upper back before moving to iron the entire back. Finally, iron out the wrinkles on the front, paying close attention to the areas around the buttons.
If the shirt is extremely wrinkled, try using the steam function on your iron or spraying the shirt before ironing.
