A camping shower is a godsend while camping. It allows you to wash your body, get refreshed, and enjoy a creature comfort while out in the wilderness. Camping showers come in a variety of styles, each with its own pros and cons. Some are gravity-fed showers that are hung to create water pressure, and others use an electric pump to do the same. Choosing the right one depends on whether you need to remove daily grime or take full showers after a long day of hiking.
We tested the most popular camping showers and conducted a thorough test of each, rating them across six points. At mybest, we define the best camping shower as one that washes away sweat thoroughly and keeps you refreshed even on long camping trips. As a bonus, we explain the best way to choose a portable shower that fits your individual needs.

We measured each shower’s water pressure and spray range, giving a cumulative score to each product regarding how well it washed away sweat and grime.
A good portable shower should be usable without confusion or excessive time spent learning how to use it. Using the shower should also not be frustrating.
After a long day in the wilderness, weary bodies and minds do not want to spend excessive energy on preparing a portable shower for use.
We set the criteria for high durability as products with minimal risk of damage and long-lasting usability.
The faster a portable shower heats water, the faster you can get a day’s worth of sweat and grime off of you.

Camping showers go anywhere you go. They give you portable access to a shower nearly anywhere on a camping or hiking trip, or on a trip to the beach. They are especially useful at the beach for washing off salt water and sand to remove that sticky feeling from your body.
A portable shower’s water pressure is naturally weaker than that of a home shower. Even the strongest ones offer only about half of the water pressure of your shower at home. However, they offer enough pressure to rinse you off and make you feel refreshed. They can also serve other uses in a pinch, such as removing dirt from a vehicle or washing clothes and boots that have become caked with mud.
It can be said that the water pressure of a portable shower is weaker compared to a home shower. Even the strong ones only have about half the water pressure. However, it's enough if all you need is to rinse off sweat. There are also various other ways to use it, such as washing your car where there is no water supply.
Campgrounds often include built-in showers, so it makes intuitive sense to just use them instead of carrying a portable shower. However, portable showers offer two benefits over campsite showers.
Camping showers are more cost-effective. Many models we found cost only about $35, and once you own one, you can use it for a long time by just adding water, so the only cost is the initial purchase price. Showers on campgrounds can cost $6.80, on average, for each use, so the cost can add up quickly across multiple days and uses. Just six uses exceed the cost of a portable shower. If you go camping frequently, it is more cost-effective to buy a portable shower.
Camping showers are cleaner. You can choose where to use it, so there is less concern about hygiene. Campground showers or truck stop showers may not be cleaned regularly. For people concerned about cleanliness, portable showers are the better choice.
The price of a portable shower can depend on the type. Gravity-fed showers tend to be more economical, while electric models may cost more. If price is an important factor for you, check for cost performance in our rankings.
Here are the points to keep in mind when choosing the best Camping Showers.
The first thing you should consider when choosing a camping shower is water pressure. After all, you want a camping shower that can thoroughly rinse off dirt, grime, and sweat.
Our top-rated product, Summer Shower by Advanced Elements, had around nine times more water pressure than the other products, making it great for thoroughly rinsing off sweat.
It’s generally understood that camping showers have weaker water pressure compared to regular showers. However, there were some models that actually ended up having fairly strong water pressure.
Water pressure varied within each category of camping showers. For example, there was a difference in water pressure among hanging gravity-fed showers. Be sure to check the evaluation of shower performance. If it's over 4.5 ranking, you can be sure that the water pressure is reliable and effective.
The next important component to consider is usability. Ideally, you want a shower that's easy to use and doesn't waste water. Regarding usability, hanging camping showers received the highest ratings.
There were two reasons why the hanging type was easier to use compared to other types. Hanging showers are easier to shower under. That’s because hanging showers can be temporarily installed practically anywhere, like onto tree branches or rooftop car racks, letting you choose a height that suits you.
The second advantage of gravity-fed hanging showers is that it they are easier to shut off and save water. This type has a shut-off valve located on the shower head, which is conveniently hanging within arm’s reach. In camping, where resources are precious, being able to easily stop the flow of water, even a second sooner, is a big advantage.
On the other hand, with other camping showers, a major concern is that there is a limit to the length of the hose. For some tall people, it may be difficult to get water on your head without bending over. Another point of concern is that many of the water shut-off valves are located near the feet, so you might have to bend over in order to shut it off.
In addition to being easy to use, the durability of the hanging showers is also a major advantage. Hanging gravity-fed camping showers have a very simple design. This means fewer parts that are at risk of breaking, helping preserve the shower's longevity.
There are two main methods for heating water in a camping shower: solar and electric. In addition, you can also heat up water separately over the fire or with a camp stove and add hot water to your shower.
During our testing, we found no significant difference between the two methods; both solar and electric showers can reasonably heat water. The fastest heating method took about 28 minutes, and the slowest took about 62 minutes to heat the water up to 104℉.
For solar-heated camping showers, we used an artificial sunlamp to replicate sunlight. The highest-performing shower heated 50℉ water to 104℉ in about 43 minutes. While you are setting up a camp or out for a hike, you can place the shower in a sunny spot and return to hot water with little to no effort.
Hanging a gravity-fed shower involves the laborious task of finding a suitable location and hoisting the water tank, usually 10 pounds, above your head. This can be difficult for some people depending on their size, age, and lifting strength.
On the other hand, with an electric camping shower, there's no need to lift a heavy tank filled with water. An electric camping shower remains on the ground while you use it. For those who find the task of lifting troublesome, purchasing an electric shower may be the best option.
Even people who are confident in their strength should be careful not to overfill the water tank. A camping shower can hold a considerable amount of water, and water is remarkably heavy. If you don't adhere to the maximum capacity guidelines of the shower, you could break the shower or even injure yourself.
For those who want to bring a camping shower on road trips, packability is super important. For a lightweight and packable camping shower, we recommend the Helio Portable Pressure Shower by Nemo. Thanks to its smart design and lightweight materials, you can compactly store it in your backpack. As an added bonus, it comes with a storage bag. This is a nice feature for packing away the shower when it still may be wet.
Nemo's compact portable shower is recommended for those who want to use it on road trips. However, since it is manually pressurized, it can be inconvenient as it needs to be pumped while showering.

The Summer Shower by Advanced Elements is a gravity-fed hanging portable shower. It comes with an attached mesh pocket for storing shampoo and other toiletries.
The Summer Shower has enough water pressure to thoroughly rinse off, helping you feel refreshed after taking a shower. We also liked that it had a wide spray range. Thanks to its hanging design, you can comfortably enjoy a shower like you’re at home. In addition, this shower has an adjustable water valve. This allows you to adjust the volume of the water output so you can shower with your preferred water pressure.
Thanks to its simple design, the Summer Shower is less likely to break due to having fewer components. Plus, it’s compact and easy to pack and transport. However, it does not come with a storage bag, so you'll need to prepare one yourself, which can be annoying for some folks. In addition, it may be a hassle to find a tree to hang the shower tank or to lift the shower above your head to hang it.

Nemo’s foray into the world of portable camp showers came with the Helio Portable Pressure Shower. The Helio is a manual pressure-operated portable shower, meaning you have to pump it to build up water pressure, as opposed to relying on gravity.
Helio’s water pressure was of a standout quality. However, the spray range is very narrow, so it might take some time to wash your entire body. The Heliois designed to be placed on the ground. Fortunately, it has a long hose that allows you to enjoy a comfortable shower from the top down without bending over. In addition, it has a convenient water valve on the handle, which lets you easily control and save water.
However, one fallback of the Helio is that you can't adjust the water volume. Moreover, the fact that water won't flow unless you pump it can make the shower experience feel cumbersome.
Since it is compact and lightweight, you can easily carry it in one hand. Furthermore, it has a very packable design and comes with a storage bag, which saves you the trouble of preparing a bag yourself and allows you to bring a shower on trips where space is limited.

YAKIMA offers a range of car camping supplies, including the Road Shower. The Road Shower is a portable shower that can be pressurized with an electric or manual pump. This shower creates ample water pressure to thoroughly rinse, making your shower experience enjoyable. However, the spray range is quite narrow compared to some other showers.
The Yakima Road Shower is designed to be mounted to your vehicle. Thanks to this convenient design, you can comfortably shower from head to toe, just like at home. In addition, we found the shower handle and water valve convenient to use, allowing you to conserve water while enjoying your shower.
One downside is the lack of water volume control. Also, the need to pressurize the tank with air and install the tank on top of your car may be cumbersome for some people. The Road Shower has no electric components, reducing the chances of it breaking. But, since it's made of aluminum and weighs 20 pounds, it's not suitable for carrying around. It can only be used when properly mounted to the roof rack of a vehicle.

KIPIDA's Solar Shower Bag is a hanging portable shower that comes with a thermometer to help determine water temperature. We found the water pressure to be average. If you scrub well, it is sufficient, but it’s not the best we tested.
The hanging style makes it possible to shower from above, making your shower time comfortable. Plus, it has a water valve on the shower head that you can adjust, allowing you to shower while conserving water and enjoying your preferred water pressure. Unfortunately, because the spray range is narrow, it will take time to rinse sweat off your entire body.
However, because of the Solar Shower’s hanging design, it can be time-consuming to find a suitable tree or structure to hang the shower. Plus, the shower is too heavy to lift when filled with water. On the other hand, the attractive part of the hangable design is that it is hard to break because it has fewer components. Plus, when the shower is empty, it’s lightweight, compact, and easy to carry. However, it does not come with a storage bag, so if you want a bag to transport the shower, you’ll need to supply one yourself.

Colapz, a pet and gardening supplies brand, manufactures a USB Rechargeable Camping Shower. This is a tankless electric portable shower, meaning you have to use it with a bucket filled with water or a body of free-standing water. The Colapz shower comes equipped with hooks and suction cups to temporarily install it wherever is most convenient. This shower produces ample water pressure sufficient enough to thoroughly rinse off, ensuring you feel totally clean afterward. Moreover, its wide water spray range can efficiently wash a large area.
The electric water pump can easily be installed into a vessel filled with water or at a river. Apart from securing a water source, hardly any time is required for setup. Plus, its long hose also makes showering super convenient.
Unfortunately, the lack of a water shut-off valve on the handle may make it difficult to stop the flow of water. Also, although the electric motor and battery are separate from the pumping mechanism that you place in water, there's still a possibility of water splashing onto the motor, which may affect its operation.
Regarding portability, it received high marks because its tankless design makes it super compact and lightweight. Additionally, the inclusion of a storage bag is a welcome bonus.

Geyser Systems' Portable Shower is making a splash with its catchy advertisements. It's an automatic portable shower with a built-in electronic heating system. One unique feature of this shower is that the shower head handle can be switched out from a spray nozzle to a sponge. It provides ample water pressure for a good scrub; while it's not being an overly high-pressure system..
However, its narrow spray range means that you can only clean a limited area at a time. Therefore, showering with this system may turn out to be a bit time-consuming. Fortunately, Geyser’s Portable Shower is very easy to use: just fill it with water and turn the switch. The spray nozzle also features a water shut-off valve, allowing you to save water while showering.
Additionally, it has an adjustable water volume feature, allowing you to adjust the water pressure to your liking. Unfortunately, the hose is a bit short, so taller people might not be able to wash their entire body without bending over. Also, this shower has a small capacity that only allows enough water for one person. So while the water may be nice and hot, it may not last long enough for multiple people or families with children.
We liked the Geyer System Shower’s design– it runs on a battery that is separated from the motor, which reduces the risk of water getting into the motor compartment. Nevertheless, this doesn't completely guarantee that the motor won't get wet, depending on how you use it. In regards to portability, this shower is larger and heavier than other models, which could make transportation a chore. We recommend using this shower system for car camping or road trips where you have ample storage space.

The KEDSUM portable Shower is a tankless electric shower. To use this shower, you must install it in a water vessel or body of water. It comes with two batteries, so you can use one while charging the other. During our testing, it had enough water pressure to rinse off adequately.
However, we found the spray range to be narrow. Therefore, the area that can be washed at once is small. Thanks to its tankless design, you can shower easily by just placing the motor in a bucket of water or a river, saving preparation time. Additionally, the KEDSUM portable shower has a long hose, which makes it easy to shower from head to toe.
However, there's no water control valve on the shower head, so it can be inconvenient to have to stoop down to stop the shower. Additionally, there's still a possibility the motor could get splashed or submerged in water, impacting the shower's long-term durability.
In the portability test, this product earned high marks thanks to its compact and lightweight tankless design. The entire shower mechanism fits into a small bag, and it's light enough to carry in one hand, making it an attractive choice for campers and travelers who want a highly portable tankless shower. Keep in mind it does not come with a storage bag, so you'll need to bring your own.

The portable outdoor shower from Ivation is a tankless electric portable shower. You can use this product in a variety of ways thanks to its various attachments. For example, it comes equipped with suction cups and hook mounts for temporarily installing the shower onto the side of your camper trailer, in a tree, or next to your car.
We found that this shower provides enough water pressure to thoroughly rinse and get a good shower. However, the spray area is narrow, so the area that can be washed at one time is small, which may be a concern for some people. An advantage of this shower is its tankless design. You can take a shower just by putting the pump in a bucket or river. We really liked that this portable shower had a long hose, making it easy to take a shower, even for taller folks.
Unfortunately, like other tankless portable showers, this shower does not have a water control valve on the shower head. Instead, you need to operate the switch at your feet to stop the shower, which can be inconvenient. Since it's the electric pump comes into direct contact with water, we are unsure how long the shower will last before possibly failing due to water exposure.
In terms of portability, this shower is very compact and lightweight. You can compactly pack it anywhere and easily carry it with one hand. However, since no storage bag is included, you have to find a carry solution yourself.

The Coleman 5-gallon Solar Shower is a hanging-style portable shower that relies on gravity to produce water pressure. Unfortunately, compared to other gravity-fed shoers, the Coleman Shower had poor water pressure.
Additionally, its spray range was somewhat small, making it a bit of a hassle to wash large areas efficiently. It would take a considerable amount of time to rinse off your entire body. Because you can hang the shower up high, you can comfortably shower from above your head. It also features a convenient water control valve on the shower head, allowing you to adjust the water volume and shut off the shower easily, saving water.
We found the task of lifting the heavy tank and finding a suitable location to hang it to be inconvenient. On the other hand, one pro of the hanging design is that it has fewer components and does not require electricity, making it less prone to breakdown. Additionally, its simple and lightweight design makes it easy to carry. However, a storage bag is not included, so you’ll need to prepare your own.

The Pocket Shower by Sea to Summit is a portable camping shower that is super simple, lightweight, and easy to carry. The Pocket Shower is a hangable shower that uses gravity to produce water pressure and solar radiation for heating water.
Unfortunately, we found the water pressure to be very weak, merely trickling out. This inhibits you from efficiently washing off. Also, the water spray range is narrow, which means it will take a long time to shower your whole body.
At the very least, thanks to this shower's hanging design, you can shower without bending over, allowing you to enjoy your shower time. Additionally, the shutoff switch and water volume control are easy to reach above your head, helping you conserve water while using it.
However, lifting the Pocket Shower after it’s been filled with water and finding an adequate object to hang it on may be a challenge. Fortunately, this shower has a super simple design, so it is less likely to break. Moreover, due to its compact and lightweight nature, this model is easy to carry, making it ideal for backpacking or bicycle touring. However, it doesn't come with a storage bag, so you'll have to prepare your own. On the plus side, the Pocket Shower can function as a fully functioning dry bag if you want to store items inside that need to remain dry.

At mybest, we define the best camping shower as one that washes away sweat thoroughly and keeps you refreshed even on long camping trips. We gathered 10 of the most popular portable showers from top-selling brands on Amazon and other popular online retailers, testing each on six criteria:
Products we tested
We measured each shower’s water pressure and spray range, giving a cumulative score to each product regarding how well it washed away sweat and grime.
We measured the pressure of the shower using a hydraulic scale. We recommend a water pressure of at least 10g.
We also measured spray range using the TANITA scale from a distance of 10cm. We recommend a minimum range of 4cm.
Shower distance: 10cm
A good portable shower should be usable without confusion or excessive time spent learning how to use it. Using the shower should also not be frustrating.
The testers checked each product and assigned scores based on the following criteria to quantify the recommendation level of each product.
After a long day in the wilderness, weary bodies and minds do not want to spend excessive energy on preparing a portable shower for use.
The testers checked each product and assigned scores based on the following criteria to quantify the recommendation level of each product.
We set the criteria for high durability as products with minimal risk of damage and long-lasting usability.
The testers checked each product and assigned scores based on the following criteria to quantify the recommendation level of each product.
The faster a portable shower heats water, the faster you can get a day’s worth of sweat and grime off of you.
We measured the time it took each shower to heat water to 104℉.
Our team checked for products that can be stored in a backpack and are easy to take for hiking.
We thus tested each shower’s width, depth, height, and weight when being stored for travel. We also tested how easy it was to transport each shower, including whether it came with a storage bag.

Adjusting the Water Pressure:
You can increase the water pressure of a hanging shower by opening the top of the water storage tank. Despite this little trick, if you are able to adjust the water pressure of your shower using a control valve, that is the most effective way to control the water pressure.
Pre-Heating Water:
For showering with hot water, one additional tip is to heat water over the stove or campfire and add hot water to the shower’s tank. By heating water, you don’t have to wait for solar radiation to heat up the shower, saving you time. Be careful not to burn yourself!
