An immersion blender is handy when preparing meals, snacks, and smoothies. Popular brands such as Breville, Hamilton Beach, Cuisinart, and Braun offer a number of models, each with their own attachments and functions. With so many brands and options available, it can be difficult deciding which blender is best for your needs.
We gathered 12 of the most popular immersion blenders from various manufacturers and tested them across 5 features.
We wanted to discover which immersion blenders blend ingredients smoothly without being overly burdensome to use daily. We also reveal how to choose the best blender so you can use this guide as a reference when wading through the many choices available.

We set the standard for a blender with high blending ability as one that could blend a smoothie and produce a consistently smooth texture.
We set the standard for chopping at whether a blender could chop uniformly, even in a short amount of time. We tested chopping ability only on products that came with a chopper attachment.
We set the standard for whipping speed as "a product that whips ingredients in an instant, significantly reducing the time for cooking and baking". The test of each product was conducted in the following manner. Only products that come with a whisk were tested
We set the standard for crushing ice at whether a panel of 10 testers felt that a blender had created a pleasant texture for frozen drinks.
We set the standard for ease of use at whether a blender could be handled well with a light grip.
We set the standard for ease of maintenance at whether a blender was dishwasher safe.
We set the standard for a product that operates quietly as "one that can be used at any time due to it being quiet," and tested each product in the following ways.

Mixers and juicers are commonly confused with immersion blenders. However, each has its own use and place in the kitchen. We therefore explain the differences between them so you can decide which is best for your needs.
The difference between immersion blenders/mixers and juicers lies in the coarseness of the end result. Immersion blenders/mixers crush and mix all ingredients, resulting in a thick, pulpy liquid. We recommend them for smoothies and soups.
Juicers remove the fibrous parts of ingredients, leaving only an extracted liquid. The result is a clear, smooth juice. Juicers are thus suitable for creating smooth beverages.
Immersion blenders and mixers tend to be noisy as they stir ingredients whole. Please be mindful of this when you use them.
Immersion blenders and blenders differ in how you use them.
In essence, you bring an immersion blender to your ingredients rather than bringing your ingredients to your blender. Immersion blenders can thus be used on pots, glasses, bowls, and many other containers. They are highly maneuverable and portable, unlike blenders that are heavier and take up more space in your kitchen.
Regular blenders, or mixers, can be operated with only one hand since the bowl is supported by a blender’s body.
Blenders are larger and thus more difficult to clean. The compactness of an immersion blender means that it is easier to both clean and maintain. Some can even be cleaned in the dishwasher, making maintenance even easier.
Here are the points to keep in mind when choosing the best Immersion Blenders.
mybest's first choice for an immersion blender is Breville’s Control Grip BSB510XL. Below, we describe why it stands out from the competition.
To test the Control Grip BSB510XL, we made a smoothie and checked its consistency.
This immersion blender created an easy-to-drink smoothie with a good texture due to its high blending power. The smoothie had little fiber or grains, and it was well received by the testers.
Blenders with weaker power cannot blend ingredients evenly. They leave a lot of vegetable fiber and fruit pulp, and in some cases, you must chew the mixture to consume it.
Next, we made a drink using frozen strawberries to test the ice-crushing power of Breville’s blender.
The blender was able to produce a smooth frozen drink, and it had excellent ice-crushing power. All testers gave satisfactory ratings or higher because the absence of fruit chunks made the frozen treat easy to drink.
While testing other blenders, most were able to produce smooth frozen drinks. Some leafy vegetables didn't get sufficiently mixed because they got stuck under the blades. The large size of the frozen strawberries likely made them easier to mix.
The Control Grip BSB510XL comes with a chopper attachment, which performed well during testing.
When we put a 200g onion, cut into 2cm squares, in the container and blended it for 10 seconds. The onion was chopped to an even consistency, though it was slightly watery. Being able to quickly mince vegetables this way makes prep work much easier.
This blender is great for making baby food because there are many steps involved in the process, and the Control Grip BSB510XL easily mashes soft-boiled ingredients into a paste when using the blender and chopper attachments. The blender’s high stirring power, chopping ability, and high-speed rotating blade make easy work of experimenting with making your own baby food at home.
Control Grip BSB510XL features a tapered grip, making it easy to hold, even for people with smaller hands.
Since the handle is made of a non-slip material, it is easy to grip while using and cleaning the blender. The handle retains its grip even when wet, which is common while preparing meals and snacks.
The blender weighs about 2 pounds, which is heavy for a hand-held blender, but since it is easy to hold, it always feels like you are in control.
Creating confectionaries is a common use for immersion blenders. If making sweet snacks and treats is the reason you want an immersion blender, consider Braun’s MultiQuick 5 Immersion Hand Blender MQ505.
At $70, or about half the cost of Breville's Control Grip BSB510XL, Braun’s MultiQuick 5 Immersion Hand Blender MQ505 comes with a whisk attachment, which is a must for sweet recipes. This blender also comes with a standard blender attachment, but unlike Breville’s blender, it lacks a chopper. If you need an immersion blender for baking, blender and whisk attachments are sufficient.
Whipping fresh cream is surprisingly difficult, taking about 5 minutes to get cream to soft peaks by hand. Using Braun’s whip attachment, we were able to whip cream in just 3 minutes. Although a mixer would be faster, an immersion blender is more convenient due to its small size and easy clean up.
Braun’s blender has plenty of mixing power. It was able to mix a smoothie without leaving leafy vegetable fibers and fruit particles that take the smooth out of “smoothie.”

The Breville Control Grip BSB510X is a product that serves as a blender, whipper, and chopper all in one. Its blender bottle has a large capacity of 42oz, which is notable for its ability to mix a large amount of ingredients at once.
It excels in both mixing and crushing ice, capable of finely and evenly chopping ingredients, ideal for creating smoothies and frozen drinks with a smooth texture. It comes with an 8-level speed adjustment feature, allowing for fine-tuning to achieve the ideal texture, which is useful not only for drinks, but also for creating soups, mashed potatoes, and other dishes.
Despite some water coming out in the process, the chopper did a virtually uniform job of dicing an onion, simplifying preparation. While it took 2 minutes and 45 seconds to whip cream, which is not as efficient as a hand mixer, it's less tiring and easier to operate.
The handle is wide and tapered, and made of silicone, which is easy to grip and slip-resistant, which is a great feature. Despite the weight of the rather powerful unit, the design enhances the ease of use and does not make it feel unwieldy.
With the exception of the chopping bowl lid, whisk gearbox and motor body, you can clean the product in a dishwasher, making cleanup easy and hassle-free, which is another positive point.
This powerful and easy-to-use product is also easy to maintain. It's likely to be the first choice for those considering an immersion blender, useful not only for everyday meals and special occasion dishes, but also for making baby food.

Braun's MultiQuick 5 Immersion Hand Blender MQ505 is a product that allows for two-speed adjustment. It comes with a whisk and a 20oz Blender Bottle.
The blending power is high, so smoothies come out very smooth. You barely feel the fibrous texture of leafy vegetables or the graininess of fruits. Also, it can make frozen drinks without any pulp residue, so there's no issue with its ice-crushing power.
In terms of whisking speed, it was able to whip cream within 3 minutes. Although it's inferior to the speed of a hand mixer, it's less burdensome than manual whisking.
Another attractive aspect is its ease of cleaning. All parts except the blender bottle lid are dishwasher safe, so it's nice to just rinse off the major stains and then leave it to the dishwasher.
Our user-friendliness test left room for improvement. The handle is made of silicone, so it doesn't slip, but there's no concave shape and the buttons are hard, so those with small hands might find it difficult to grip.
However, this product comes with a blender and whisk set necessary for baking, and the crucial blending power is flawless. It can be said to be perfect for those who mainly use an immersion blender for making sweets.

The Cuisinart Smart Stick Variable Speed Hand Blender CSB-179P1 is equipped with a speed adjustment feature, which is adjusted by turning a dial on the upper part of the body.
It received high ratings for both its stirring and ice-crushing power. Smoothies and frozen drinks turned out smooth, and taste-testers also praised their pleasant drinking experience. Because it can evenly cut ingredients, it will be useful for making not only drinks but also soups and side dishes.
Onions chopped with the chopper were the most finely chopped, but there were noticeably large chunks left here and there. Also, the time it took to whip cream was 2 minutes and 45 seconds, which is slower than a hand mixer. However, it's less burdensome than doing so by hand and allows for easy whipping.
The handle is easy to grip thanks to its contoured shape and slip-resistant design. However, there's a lock button that must be pressed before the operation button will work, which may be a bit awkward for people with small hands.
It didn't score well in terms of ease of cleaning. The work bowl, chopping blade, and metal whisk can all be washed in a dishwasher; however, the crucial blender attachment is not dishwasher-compatible, and this adds some hassle as it needs to be washed by hand.

Bonsenkitchen's Immersion Hand Blender HB3203 comes with a chopper and whisk attachment. The blender's blade is designed to prevent splattering and sticking of food ingredients.
However, the blending power seems to be insufficient. It was able to blend everything, but occasionally, we noticed vegetable fibers and fruit peels in the final product, making it not so easy to drink. On the other hand, there were no problems with the ice-crushing power, and we were able to make a smooth frozen drink with no noticeable pieces of frozen strawberry.
The onions chopped using the chopper attachment were finely and evenly cut, even though some juice was released, giving the impression that preparations could be done quickly. It took 2 minutes and 15 seconds to whisk, but while it does not match the speed of hand mixers, it does make whisking easier compared to doing it manually.
In the ease of the handling test, our rating was slightly lowered due to the blender's weight of 1.65 pounds when attached. However, with features such as a narrowed grip and non-slip material, it is unlikely that you will feel awkward handling it. In addition, while the blade cannot be removed, everything except the body and the chopper bowl lid can be washed in the dishwasher, making maintenance easy.

The Cordless Rechargeable Hand Blender KZ800D51 by All-Clad is a cordless product, which is powered via charging. It does not come with any attachments.
Not only can it evenly blend ingredients, but it can also smooth them out, earning high ratings in tests for both its mixing and ice-crushing power. The smoothies and frozen drinks it makes are pleasingly smooth; you won't feel any fibers of vegetables or particles of fruits, which make its smoothies easy to drink.
Its easy maintenance is another strong point of this product. Since the blender attachment is dishwasher-safe, it saves you the trouble of hand washing. However, the weight of the main unit with the blender attached is 1.67 pounds, which is somewhat heavy. Plus, the handle lacks features such as a slim area for easy grip or non-slip material. Therefore, you may find it difficult to handle.

The Immersion Blender G8H1AASSPSS from the GE Appliances brand operated by Haier US Appliance Solutions is a product that comes with a chopper and whipper. Its speed can be adjusted in two stages, low and high.
It produced excellent results in both stirring and ice-crushing abilities, resulting in a smooth, pleasant-tasting smoothie and frozen drink. In particular, the smoothie was smooth and juice-like, which left an impressive ease of drinking.
The onion minced using the chopper let out water, but was finely cut, with no complaints about the chopper's capability. The time it took to whip cream was not particularly quick at 3 minutes, but you can do so without getting tired compared to hand whipping.
Another plus is that everything, except the main body and chopper bowl lid, can be washed in a dishwasher. However, it was rated low in our ease of handling test. Being made of stainless steel, the main body is heavy, and its weight when the blender is attached is 1.85 pounds. The handle is made of non-slip material, but our testers’ hands got tired after operating it for only 3 minutes, hence its low recommendation for long term use.

The Powerful Immersion Blender PE-302 from Peach Street is a simple product that only has a blender function, with no attachments like a chopper or whisk included.
It doesn't have very high mixing power, resulting in smoothies that can't really be described as smooth. While it's not undrinkable, the fibers from vegetables and particles of fruits were noticeable, giving us an impression that it's difficult for it to chop ingredients evenly. However, its ice-crushing power was satisfactory, and it was able to successfully blend a frozen drink out of frozen strawberries.
The blades can't be detached, but everything other than the main body can be cleaned in a dishwasher, which is convenient. Also, the blender is quite light at 1.38 pounds even when attached, which is nice. Furthermore, the handle is tapered for easy gripping. However, it doesn't come with a non-slip grip, so be careful not to let it slip when your hands are wet.

The Vita-Mix Immersion Blender VM0219 is a product characterized by its two-blade blending attachment, which is the only attachment in the set.
Because its blending power is weak, small chunks of vegetables and fruit were noticed in the smoothie, so an easily-drinkable smoothie will be difficult. However, there were no issues with its ice-crushing power, and it left a good impression for its ability to create frozen drinks that were easy and enjoyable to drink.
However, in terms of ease of use and ease of care, it received low ratings. The weight of the body when attached to the blender is quite heavy at 2.64 pounds, and your hands may get tired when using it. In addition, as it cannot be washed in a dishwasher, it also requires the effort of hand washing.

The Immersion Hand Blender KHBV53ER from KitchenAid, a brand managed by Whirlpool Corporation, is a product that operates just by the push of a button. The blender bottle comes with a lid, so it's possible to store a drink after you make it.
When making a smoothie to test blending power, however, it fell a bit short of achieving the pleasant texture desired. Although there were no large chunks of vegetables or fruit, we did feel the scratchy texture from leafy vegetable fibers. On the other hand, it gained high ratings for its ice-crushing ability, resulting in frozen drinks so smooth that there was no need for chewing.
But it scored low for both ease of use and maintenance. The handle doesn't have any special design for easy gripping and it weighs a noticeable 1.74 pounds. Moreover, the blender itself is not dishwasher-safe, so you'll have to wash it by hand, which could be a bit of a hassle.

The 2-Speed Hand Blender 59762FG by Hamilton Beach Brands is a product that allows for two-speed adjustment. The only accompanying accessory is a whisk, and it does not come with a dedicated container.
While the blending power is not weak, it does not finely blend ingredients to the point where they can be sipped smoothly, which lowered its rating. However, the finish of the frozen drink made during our ice crushing test was very smooth, to the point where the pulp of frozen strawberries was imperceptible.
It is inferior to a hand mixer since it takes 3 minutes to whip cream, but it still reduces the burden compared to manual whipping.
The ease of maintenance is also attractive because the blender can be washed in a dishwasher, so there is no need for hand washing. On the other hand, there was no design such as a tapered area or non-slip grip in the handle to make it easier to hold, so there may be a feeling of difficulty in handling.

Mueller's Ultra-Stick Hand Blender MLR010001N is a product that comes with a whisk and a milk frother. It allows for eight levels of speed adjustment.
In terms of blending power, it scored low because it was unable to produce easily-drinkable smoothies. Many testers mentioned that "the smoothie is hard to drink since you can feel chunks of ingredients while drinking." However, there is no significant problem with its ice-crushing ability. It thoroughly crushed frozen strawberries into a frozen drink which was easy to drink.
The product struggled to score well on our ease of handling and ease of cleaning tests. Although the handle is tapered, there is no non-slip grip, so it may slip when operated with wet hands. Also, while the whisk and milk frother are dishwasher safe, the blender itself is not, requiring hand-washing, which may be inconvenient.

What we didn't love
TopNet's Ovente Electric Immersion Hand Blender HS560 is a product that allows for two levels of speed: low and high. Its blades rotate at the push of either button.
However, its blending power is weak, and the resultant smoothie had large pieces of vegetables and fruit left over, making it so coarse that you needed to chew multiple times before swallowing. The frozen drinks made in our ice crushing test had leftover frozen strawberry pieces here and there, which was of concern.
However, in terms of ease of use and ease of maintenance, it received high ratings. Its body is relatively light, and the handle has a grip-friendly contour and anti-slip material, making it easy to use. Moreover, an additional positive point was that it can be washed in a dishwasher, making maintenance easier.

While testing the immersion blenders, we defined the best product as one that could blend ingredients smoothly and that wasn’t overly cumbersome to use daily.
We then collected 12 of the top-selling immersion blenders from popular retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, and Target, and conducted thorough examinations across 5 points:
Products we tested
We set the standard for a blender with high blending ability as one that could blend a smoothie and produce a consistently smooth texture.
Testers: 10 people who were familiar with what makes a good smoothie
Ingredients: 1 leaf of kale, 1 banana, half an apple, and 4 oz. of water
Blending time: 90 seconds
Whether the fibrous texture of leafy vegetables remained after blending a smoothie
Whether the graininess of fruits was present in the smoothie
We set the standard for chopping at whether a blender could chop uniformly, even in a short amount of time.
We tested chopping ability only on products that came with a chopper attachment.
Our testers checked the state of the finely chopped onions in each product, rating them using the following points, and scored each product based on how highly they recommended them.
Whether no large lumps remaining after blending an onion, and if the onion was finely chopped throughout
Whether any water ran out
Ingredient: 200g of onion cut into 2cm cubes
Operating time: 10 seconds
We set the standard for whipping speed as "a product that whips ingredients in an instant, significantly reducing the time for cooking and baking". The test of each product was conducted in the following manner.
Only products that come with a whisk were tested
We beat the whipping cream and measured the time it took for it to reach soft peaks. We scored each product higher the less time it took for them to whip cream, and scored them based on how much our testers could recommend each product.
We set the standard for crushing ice at whether a panel of 10 testers felt that a blender had created a pleasant texture for frozen drinks.
The frozen drinks made with each product were tasted by a monitor and evaluated based on their quality. We scored each product based on how much we could recommend them.
Testers: 10 people familiar with frozen drinks
Ingredients: 6 oz. frozen strawberries, 1 oz. sugar, 3.3 oz. lemon juice, and 0.3 oz. water
Operating time: 3 minutes
Whether any chunks of frozen fruit remained after blending
Our testers checked each product and scored them based on the following points, converting how highly they recommended each one into a score.
Whether a blender felt heavy when turned on
Whether a blender’s handle was easy to grip
Whether buttons were easy to push
Whether the blender’s speed was adjustable
We set the standard for ease of maintenance at whether a blender was dishwasher safe.
Our testers tested each product based on the following points. They then converted how highly they recommend each one into a score.
Whether all parts of a blender were dishwasher safe
Whether the blade could be removed
We operated each product on high-power mode inside a sound-proof room. A noise meter was placed 70cm away from each product to measure the sound. We wanted the operating noise to be as quiet as possible, with 45dB being the upper limit. We scored each product based on how highly we can recommend it.
