If you’re involved in a car accident, it’s extremely helpful to have objective evidence of exactly what happened. With a 3-channel dashcam, not only can you record what happened outside of your car, but also inside. These cameras can also double as security cameras during rideshares. With lots of options being sold by manufacturers such as VANTRUE and AZDOME, it can be challenging to know which model is the best for your needs.
In this guide, we collected eight popular, 3-channel dashcams from the latest products and top-selling items of various manufacturers, then evaluated and compared them based on eight criteria.
At mybest, we define the best 3-channel dashcam as a product that can clearly capture both accidents and incidents with passengers while driving without any blind spots. We will explain the features to look for in a 3-channel dashcam and go into detail about the benefits and drawbacks of the models we tested, so you can make an informed purchase.

What is the appeal of a 3-channel dashcam over other types of dashcams on the market? Let’s get into the details.
The greatest advantage of a 3-channel dashcam is its ability to cover and record footage over a broad range. Unlike other types of recorders, which cannot record the inside of the car, a 3-channel dashcam can document both the inside and outside of the vehicle with almost no blind spots.
While you’re driving or even when you’re parked, you can encounter all kinds of situations, from sudden braking to intrusions to disputes with rideshare passengers, to vandalism. If you want to prepare and protect yourself from accidents and other incidents, we recommend you choose a 3-channel dashcam that can record evidence in a range of scenarios.
Here are the points to keep in mind when choosing the best 3-Channel Dashcams.
To find a 3-channel dashcam that can clearly record in any environment, we conducted quality tests under both good and bad conditions. Our verdict? We found that the VIOFO T130 and Vantrue N4 cameras both had excellent video quality.
Both cameras were able to capture license plates and people's faces regardless of the environment. So we recommend them not only for recording accidents but also for documenting problems with rideshare passengers and as a deterrent against vandalism.
During this test, we took pictures of license plates from various distances with each dashcam and checked to see if we could clearly read the letters and the numbers. So, while some dashcams may sound great when you read the specs, our testing showed that the video quality of some of the dashcams we tested wasn’t high enough to allow our testers to read a license plate clearly.
But the VIOFO T130 and Vantrue N4 dashcams could record clearly to some extent, even at a distance from both the front and rear. If your dashcam can take clear pictures of the number on a license plate, you have a greater chance of capturing the plate in a hit-and-run or road rage scenario.
In our in-car camera test, we checked to see if the cameras could clearly record people's faces under any conditions. The results showed that both the VIOFO T130 and Vantrue N4 had sufficiently good video quality for in-car cameras. They effectively recorded people's silhouettes and the rough contours of faces in both bright and dark environments, thanks to their infrared functions.
If you are a rideshare driver who has been verbally or physically assaulted by passengers or you have had your parked car vandalized, a clear video of the perpetrator's face can provide powerful evidence during an investigation. While new dashcams perform well in bright conditions, it's important to ensure that they also work properly in the dark.
The VIOFO T130 and Vantrue N4 dashcams were able to record license plates by suppressing backlighting, not only on bright roads but also near tunnel entrances and exits and places where there is headlight reflection.
Lower-quality products had difficulty clearly recording license plates due to poor corrections that led to washed-out whites and crushed blacks, but the VIOFO T130 and Vantrue N4 dashcams provided adequate evidence.
In bright locations, it's harder to see, which can lead to accidents. A dashcam that can correct for backlighting can capture evidence even under adverse conditions.
After checking the image quality, you should pay attention to the width of a dashcam’s shooting range. The wider the filming area, the more information the dashcam can record, increasing its value in gathering evidence.
During this test, we found that a horizontal viewing angle of more than 100 degrees can record a fairly wide range, and was sufficient to capture extensive information. Not only is the wide angle useful for analyzing the causes of accidents, such as the sudden movement of other vehicles or the color of a traffic light, but a wide angle also makes it easier to capture incidents with passengers, reducing the risk of missing important evidence.
The VIOFO T130 and Vantrue N4 recorded a horizontal viewing angle of more than 100 degrees with all included cameras.
However, some manufacturers don’t disclose the horizontal viewing angle of their dashcams. In other instances, the horizontal viewing angle we measured differed from the manufacturer's published value. When assessing the horizontal viewing angle of a dashcam, we recommend you refer to our impartial test results instead of the manufacturer's nominal value.
A broader recording angle is crucial in determining what happened in any incident. Blind spots in a dashcam can potentially create ambiguity concerning what occurred. In the context of court proceedings and negotiations with insurance companies, a wider angle to capture a broader range of footage is preferable.
Depending on the dashcam, you can record and display not only images but also driving routes and speeds. The recorded speed can serve as evidence to show whether you were driving at an appropriate speed or decelerating when an accident occurred and it plays a critical role in determining fault ratios. Being able to confirm this information with an objective device drastically increases its usefulness as evidence.
Recording your driving route makes it easier to share the exact location and circumstances in which an accident occurred with the other party involved in the accident. In addition, depending on the product, you may need to buy a separate accessory to record GPS information. We will note which dashcams come with GPS in our rankings for reference.
When a dashcam runs out of sufficient storage space, it deletes old data to record new data. If you want to preserve footage long-term, such as recordings while parked, as a countermeasure against hit-and-runs or vandalism, check whether your dashcam supports high-capacity SD cards.
For a 3-channel dashcam, we recommend one that supports more than 256GB. Even with continuous recording in full HD, the 3 cameras can store around 10 hours of data in total, which is enough to cover roughly one night's worth of data. It’s important to make sure your SD card won’t be full when you need it most.
A dashcam constantly reads and writes data while it's running, leading to high load and a tendency for errors to occur. To mitigate the risk of recording failures where no video is captured, we recommend you choose a recorder with an SD card check function that detects any malfunctions in the SD card and alerts the driver.
You can also periodically remove the SD card and check the data, but this can be inconvenient and easily forgotten. If there is an SD card check function, though, it will notify you of any malfunctions by voice or text once you turn the power on. That way, you can troubleshoot any issues with the SD card before getting back on the road.
You can check whether each product is equipped with an SD Card Check Function in the SD Card Check Function Equipped section of our rankings.
You can view the footage recorded with a dashcam on the device's display, a PC, or on a smartphone app. Among the ways to review footage, we recommend you load the SD card onto your PC. That way you don’t have to fuss with app installations or Wi-Fi connections. Plus, you can closely inspect the footage on a large screen.
In addition, many dashcam apps are not very user-friendly. Even testers who use smartphones every day struggled with setting up the Wi-Fi to connect the dashcam to their phone. But you want to make sure you can handle accidents and incidents promptly. Using a PC allows you to review the footage quickly and easily.

VIOFO's T130 allows you to turn audio recording on and off using just your voice. In addition, you can adjust the direction of the 3 cameras to find the best angle according to the installation position.
This dashcam’s front and rear cameras were able to clearly record the license plates under both good and poor conditions. They performed well on bright daytime roads, and can also record at tunnel entrances and exits with backlighting and on roads at night. So if you get into an accident, this dashcam should be able to capture the other driver’s license plate.
The in-car camera was able to clearly record in bright environments. In dark environments, however, this camera could not quite produce vivid images, but thanks to the infrared function, it was able to capture human figures without being pitch black. This dashcam can also double as a security camera during ride-sharing.
When we tested the width of the dashcam’s shooting angle, the front camera recorded a 100-degree angle, the rear camera recorded 120 degrees, and the in-car camera recorded a 110-degree horizontal angle. So this camera can sufficiently capture the surrounding circumstances and film not just the moment an accident occurs, but also the circumstances that led up to it. This dashcam can also record any trouble that takes place inside your car.
This dashcam’s dedicated viewer is compatible with both Windows and Mac, and its appeal lies in the ability to record not only the image but also the driving route and speed information. That said, the app is hard to operate, and users have voiced complaints such as, "It took a long time to connect" and "The manual is not user-friendly, so I don’t understand how to operate the device.” Because of this, we recommend you watch the footage on a PC instead of the app.
In addition, this dashcam does not come equipped with an SD Card Check Function, so you should remove your SD card regularly to ensure it is functioning properly. The SD card slot is compatible with cards up to 256GB, which is advantageous if you wish to continue filming while parked or want to maintain recorded data for a long time without erasing it. This dashcam has a few minor drawbacks, but it meets the high standards for the most important measures—the video quality and viewing angle—which make this camera a top pick.

The A229 PRO by VIOFO features a 4K camera in front. By utilizing four satellite positioning systems, it boasts improved accuracy and stability of location information compared to other dashcams.
Under good conditions, this dashcam could clearly record a license plate. However, the footage taken by the front camera was severely overexposed under backlighting. This dashcam performed well on the roads in bright sunlight, but doesn’t record as well in backlit situations such as recording at the entrances of tunnels or on roads at night.
The in-car camera was able to clearly capture people's faces in bright environments. Also, thanks to the infrared camera, this dashcam could recognize people's faces even in dark environments without the video becoming pitch black. This model could also be useful as a security camera for ridesharing.
When we tested the dashcam’s shooting angle, the front camera recorded a horizontal angle of 100 degrees, the rear camera recorded 120 degrees, and the in-car camera recorded 110 degrees. Because of this camera’s range, it can capture surroundings broadly enough to record not only the moment an accident occurs or when your vehicle is hit, but also the circumstances that led up to the incident. In addition, this camera can reliably record any situations that may arise inside the car.
The dedicated viewer is compatible with both Windows and Mac, and you can check not only the video, but the driving route and speed. The app is hard to use, with testers saying “it took time to connect” and that “the instructions were unclear, making it difficult to understand how to operate the device.” So we recommend you watch the footage on a PC instead of the app.
In addition, there's no SD card check function, so we suggest you regularly remove your SD card to make sure there aren’t any issues. This model does support SD cards up to 512GB. This is a plus if you want to continue to record while you’re parked or if you want to keep long-term recording data without deleting it.

The N4 from VANTRUE features in-vehicle cameras equipped with four infrared LED lights. Its manufacturer boasts strong resistance to whiteout, blackout, and backlight, promising clear recording even at night.
We were able to clearly record the numbers on license plates in both good and bad conditions. Not only could this dashcam handle bright daylight on the roads, but it could also capture footage effectively in the intense sunlight at the entrances and exits of tunnels, and on roads at night, so you can get the license plate number of the person who hit your car. The in-car camera records relatively clearly in both bright and dark environments. It was able to capture human figures even in the dark, so you can also use this dashcam as a security camera in rideshare vehicles.
When we tested the filming angle's width, the front and rear cameras recorded a horizontal angle of 100 degrees, and the interior camera recorded one of 120 degrees. As this dashcam captures a wide range of surroundings, you can rely on it to record an accident, as well as the circumstances that led up to the incident.
The dedicated viewer is compatible with both Windows and Mac, but unfortunately, you need a separate GPS mount to check information such as driving routes and speeds. Also, since there is no app, you’ll need to use your PC or the device's display to check the video.
Another drawback is that this dashcam doesn’t have an SD card check function, so you won’t be alerted to any malfunctions and should check the card manually. On the other hand, this dashcam supports SD cards up to 256GB, so you can continue recording even while parked.

What we loved
What we didn't love
AZDOME's M550 can shoot in WQHD on its front camera and in Full HD on the interior and rear cameras. You can also detach the in-car camera, which is convenient when you do not want to record inside your car.
Under good conditions, we were able to clearly capture the license plate using this dashcam. If an accident occurs on a road during a bright time of the day, this model should capture plenty of evidence. Under poor conditions, although the rear camera was able to suppress the backlight and record clearly, the front camera’s footage was severely overexposed, making it hard to read. So this dashcam can’t be counted on to record effectively in areas with strong sunlight or near the exits of tunnels.
This in-car camera captured people's faces fairly clearly in a bright environment, but in a dark setting, this device only captured silhouettes. But if a situation arises in your car at night, this camera should be able to capture the general situation.
When we evaluated the shooting angle width of the 3 cameras, the front recorded a 90-degree horizontal view, and the rear and in-car cameras captured a 100-degree horizontal view. It’s worth noting that the viewing angle of the front camera is slightly narrower than some other dashcams on this list, so it may miss some details during an accident or if recording is interrupted.
The dedicated viewer is compatible with both Windows and Mac, allowing you to watch the video and check the driving route and speed information. In addition, this dashcam’s touch panel display is intuitive and user-friendly. On the other hand, the dashcam’s app takes time to connect and set up, and many of our testers gave it low marks. So we recommend you watch the footage on a PC instead of the app.
The device is equipped with an SD card check function, so you will be alerted to any malfunctions before you start driving. The maximum recording capacity is very large at 512GB, so you don’t have to immediately erase your longer footage. The large memory is a nice feature if you want to continue recording once you park your car.

What we loved
What we didn't love
Rexing's V33 is equipped with full HD resolution on all 3 cameras. Even in dark places, this dashcam’s manufacturer boasts that it can adjust the exposure automatically and record clearly.
Under good conditions, we were able to capture the license plate clearly. If an accident occurs during bright hours, this dashcam can likely capture sufficient evidence. But during poor conditions with backlighting, it was hard to read the license plate on the video. So keep in mind that this dashcam may not be able to take clear images in strong sunlight or near the exits of tunnels.
The interior car camera was able to record people's faces relatively clearly in bright conditions. While it couldn't capture detailed facial features in the dark, it did record human figures. So if you run into trouble inside your car at night, this dashcam should be able to record the general situation.
When it came to the shooting angle's width, the front camera recorded a 100-degree view, while the rear/interior cameras captured a 90-degree horizontal view. These angles are slightly narrower than some other dashcams on this list, so this dashcam may miss some aspects of incidents caused by aggressive driving or conflict inside the car.
The dedicated viewer is compatible with both Windows and Mac, and a benefit to this is that you can also check driving routes and speeds. On the other hand, testers gave the app low marks, saying that “It took time and effort to connect to Wi-Fi” and “The manual did not provide enough explanation about how to connect.” For a smoother experience, we recommend you play back the camera footage on a PC.
One advantage that sets this dashcam apart from others is its battery protection feature, which will prevent the draining of the battery if you record while parked. This dashcam also supports SD cards with a capacity of up to 256GB, making it easy to preserve long-term data. However, it doesn't come with an SD card check function, so you’ll have to check your SD card periodically to make sure it’s still working correctly.

The COOAU D50 comes equipped with HDR functionality. Its manufacturer promises to prevent overexposure and loss of detail in black tones, clearly and vividly displaying scenes that range from light to dark.
In good lighting conditions, both the front and rear cameras recorded clearly. However under poor conditions, it was impossible to read the license plate captured by the camera due to black crush, the loss of detail due to underexposure, or overexposure. While this camera can capture accidents during the day, it might not be able to clearly record evidence when it’s dark out or when the location is backlit.
In addition, the in-car camera didn't produce clear images in bright settings, resulting in blurred outlines. This dashcam performed better in dim environments, where it managed to roughly capture the features of faces. So if an incident were to arise inside your car, this camera could likely at least record the general situation.
When we evaluated the shooting angle width of the 3 cameras, the front recorded a horizontal angle of 90 degrees, while the rear/interior cameras captured 110 degrees. Since the angle of the front camera is a little narrower than that of some other dashcams, this device might miss some of the details in accidents or incidents that other dashcams may capture.
There is no dedicated viewer for checking footage on a PC, and you’ll have to use the app to see the driving route and speed. Although we found the app relatively easy to use compared to those associated with other dashcams, the manual's explanation was insufficient, so it wasn’t clear what steps users should take to connect the dashcam to Wi-Fi.
But since this camera is equipped with an SD card check function, you can easily detect any malfunctions that would stop the cameras from recording before you start driving and deal with them effectively. Also, this dashcam’s large maximum recording capacity of 512GB allows it to record hours of data once you’re parked.

The WOLFBOX G890 3 Channel Dash Cam G890 attaches to the rear-view mirror. It comes with a 64GB SD card, so there's no need to buy one separately, saving you time and money.
Under good lighting conditions, both the front and rear cameras recorded clearly. However, in poor conditions, we couldn’t read the license plate in the footage this dashcam collected because of blackouts and overexposure. While this dashcam can probably record accidents during the day, you likely can’t count on it to provide clear evidence in dark places or scenarios with lots of backlighting.
The in-car camera was able to vividly capture people's faces in bright conditions. Although this dashcam couldn't capture facial features in complete darkness, it was able to record silhouettes. So if an incident takes place inside your car at night, this dashcam can record the general situation.
When we tested the field of view for filming, both front and internal cameras recorded a horizontal angle of 100 degrees, while the rear captured 110 degrees. This wide angle should be able to clearly record not just the cause of an accident but the circumstances leading up to it as well.
This dashcam also has dedicated viewing software that you can use on both Windows and Mac. It also provides details about the driving route and speed. This dashcam also features a touchscreen display that you can operate intuitively. On the other hand, this dashcam doesn’t have an app, so you will need to watch the footage on the device's display or a PC.
Another drawback is that this dashcam doesn’t come with an SD card check function, so you’ll need to manually remove it regularly to make sure it’s still working correctly. That said, it can record for a long time as it supports SD cards up to 512GB, making it suitable for use once you’re parked.

The 3 Channel Dash Cam J06 from SUVCON is equipped with infrared LED lights for its in-car camera. Its manufacturer claims this camera can clearly capture the inside of a car, even in dark places.
Under both good and bad conditions, the front camera was able to record relatively clearly. However, the rear camera struggled with capturing the license plate clearly no matter how close it was or which lighting conditions it was in. So, you can only rely on the rear camera to record a rough overview of the surroundings.
The in-car camera was also unable to clearly capture faces in both bright and dark environments. In dark settings, this dashcam was unable to capture even a silhouette, so you can’t rely on it to record effectively at night. And since this dashcam has difficulty capturing faces in detail, it also likely won’t provide sufficient evidence should an incident occur in or around your car. So this dashcam isn’t a useful security camera for rideshare vehicles.
When we evaluated the shooting angle's width, the front camera recorded a horizontal angle of 90 degrees, the rear 70 degrees, and the internal camera 60 degrees. Since all the camera angles are narrow, it’s very possible that they may miss important aspects of the conditions that led up to an accident.
On the other hand, this dashcam does have dedicated viewing software that you can use on both Windows and Mac, which allows you to check the driving route and speed. It doesn’t come with an app though, so you’ll need to watch the footage on the device's display or your PC.
There's also no SD card check function, so you won’t be alerted if it’s not working. Additionally, since this dashcam only supports SD cards up to 128GB, you can’t rely on it to record footage for long stretches.

At mybest, we define the best 3-channel dashcam as a product that can capture everything from traffic accidents to passenger disputes with no blind spots, all while displaying images clearly.
In search of the best option on the market, we gathered eight popular 3-channel dashcams from popular manufacturers such as Amazon, and other sites, evaluating them based on the following eight points:
High Light Image Quality
Low Light Image Quality
Field of View
Recording Accessibility
App Usability
SD Card Error Prevention
Hit-and-Run Protection
Products we tested
We set the standard for high light image quality as a product that allows anyone to read a car's license plate clearly.
From 12, 16, and 32 feet, the front and rear cameras each took a photo of a license plate. We asked 10 testers to see if they could read the letters and numbers on the license plate clearly. We recommended and scored the products with the highest rate of accuracy the most favorably.
Recording environment: indoors with the lights on, using default camera settings
Equipment used for test: Nevada state license plate
We set the standard for low light image quality as a product that can fully read license plate numbers under any environmental conditions.
In an environment replicating intense backlighting, we recorded license plates using both front and rear cameras. We then asked our 10 testers if they could read the letters and numbers on the plates. We recommended and scored highly the dashcams that could record with the most accuracy.
Recorded in an environment with an illumination of approximately 0.1 lux, simulating the light around a tunnel exit using blackout curtains and stands.
Illuminated a license plate using an artificial sun lamp capable of producing brightness equivalent to sunlight.
The license plate was installed 6.5 feet away from the dashcam and recorded.
Equipment used: License plate, SOLAX xc-500 solar lamp
Default settings were used throughout.
We set the standard for interior camera quality as a product that clearly captures footage with its in-vehicle camera.
We reviewed the footage taken by the in-car camera of each product, assessed whether we could record in-car incidents with sufficient image quality, and scored our recommendations accordingly.
We photographed the model's upper body in both bright environments (approximately 800 lux) and completely dark environments (approximately 0.1 lux).
We took a preliminary photo of the model using a smartphone in a bright environment to serve as a reference image.
Testers: 10 individuals aged 20 to 50, both male and female
Using a protractor and chalk line, we set angles radiating symmetrically left and right from the center of the dashcam, increasing them by 10 degrees each time from 40 to 130 degrees. We reviewed the dashcam's footage, and positioned cones on the set angles to measure up to how many degrees the cameras could capture. The wider the angle the device could capture, the more highly we recommended it. We standardized the score with a maximum horizontal viewing angle of 130 degrees, which can easily capture sudden incidents.
Test equipment: protractor, chalk line
We conducted the test by installing cones as markers on pre-set angles and capturing images.
Default camera settings were used, and the test was carried out with all included cameras.
We set the standard for recording accessibility as a product that makes it very simple to view and use images, whether on the main device or a PC.
Our testers evaluated each dashcam on the following points, scoring them based on how highly they could recommend each product.
Does the dashcam have a monitor?
Can the dashcam be operated via a touchscreen?
Can the footage be viewed using Windows Media Player or QuickTime Player?
Is it possible to check the driving route?
Can the driving speed be checked?
We set the standard for app usability as one that is simple to operate and easy to understand so anyone can use it.
Our testers installed each dashcam's app and evaluated how easy it was to use, scoring each based on how highly they could recommend it.
Testers: 10 smartphone users aged 20 to 50
Smartphones from both Android and iPhone platforms were used for the test. We also confirmed that the version of each smartphone’s OS was compatible with the camera’s software.
Ease of initial setup
Ease of video playback
Ease of saving video footage
We set the standard for SD card error prevention as a product with systems in place to prevent SD card errors.
Our testers evaluated each dashcam, scoring them based on the following points, and converting how highly they could recommend each product into a score.
We set the standard for hit-and-run protection as a dashcam equipped to record for a long period of time while parked.
