A cookware set usually includes a frying pan, a saucepan, a stockpot, a lid and sometimes more, all in one bundle. Depending on the manufacturer, it can be more cost-effective and efficient to buy a single set of cookware rather than each item separately.
When we compared buying a cookware set vs. individual items from a certain manufacturer in January of 2024, it ended up being $60 cheaper to buy the same items as a set than individually.
Also, when all items are from the same manufacturer or brand, it creates a unified look for your cookware. This is good to keep in mind if you have a particular vision in mind for your kitchen.
However, if you're not someone who cooks a lot, not every cooking set may be right for you since some can contain special utensils. Also, keep in mind how big your kitchen is, so you don't purchase a set too large.
Please use this article as a reference if you're looking to buy a complete cookware set for the first time or if you are looking to upgrade your cooking utensils. If you're completely starting from scratch, a cookware set that comes with a spatula and turner is also convenient.
Here are the points to keep in mind when choosing the best Cookware Sets.
There are mainly two types of materials used to make cookware sets: aluminum and stainless steel. Choose the right material for you based on how you plan to use your set.
Aluminum cookware sets often include easy-to-grip handles. Their rounded design is comfortable in your hand and doesn't dig into your palm. Some handles even include silicon rubber to prevent your hand from slipping.
Compared to stainless-steel sets, many aluminum sets are more lightweight, with some pans in the set weighing less than 2 pounds. Their lightweight design makes them easy to handle with one hand, reducing the strain on your hand when stir-frying or serving meals.
Here are our top picks for aluminum cookware sets:
GreenPan's Valencia Pro Hard Anodized Healthy Ceramic Nonstick 11 Piece Cookware Pots and Pans Set: The pots and pans in this set are characterized by their handles with a rounded bottom, providing a more natural fit in your hand. It's lightweight and stress-free to use in the kitchen.
Calphalon's Select by Calphalon® Nonstick 9-Piece Cookware Set: This handy set has rounded handles and is covered in a slip-resistant silicon material, allowing you to grip it easily in your hand. Their large frying pan weighs 2.33 pounds, which should not cause any strain on your hand or arm.
If you are serious about the quality of your cooking, we recommend a stainless-steel cookware set. Stainless steel heats up slowly, compared to aluminum, so your entire cooking surface will reach a uniform temperature.
Stainless steel also retains heat efficiently, so the temperature of the pan doesn't drop easily, even when you add food to it. When we tried making pancakes, they were evenly cooked and browned evenly. Stainless steel is also effective when searing your food. If you are cooking a steak, you'll get a beautifully seared result with your pan’s consistent heat distribution.
The stainless-steel set that performed best in our testing was the Tri-Ply 8-piece Cookware Set by Tramontina. When we cooked pancakes using this set, they had widespread, even browning.
You don't want to buy a product that will start making your food stick to the pan over time. For each pan we tested, we simulated the natural aging process of cookware. We then fried an egg on each product and found that, with proper heat and a thin coating of oil, the egg did not stick in either pan.
The reason food might be sticking to your pan is either because you aren’t adding enough oil to it or because you’re adding your ingredients before the pan has adequately heated up. So, make sure to add enough oil to your pan before introducing your ingredients to it. When the oil starts to simmer, and a very light smoke comes from the pan, you will know it's hot enough.
Some pans do come with a nonstick coating, but they can get scratched and lose their nonstick ability over time. In these cases, it's best to switch to a new pan.
To prolong the life of the non-stick coating, it's important to avoid cooking on high heat and then rapidly cooling your pan afterwards. Also, avoid scraping your pan with hard objects like metal spatulas.
The contents of a cookware set vary by product, so we advise that you check what's in your set before purchasing. We recommend sets that include pots and pans of different sizes.
If you own various sizes of pots and pans, you can choose the best one based on the amount you're cooking and the type of dish you're preparing. A small frying pan is great for simple tasks like making breakfast, while a large frying pan or sauté pan is best for cooking main dishes. Saucepans are suitable for making sauces and soups, and a large pot with handles on the sides is good for making big batches of food or for boiling pasta.
Some sets may include pots and pans of the same size but made from different materials. If you’re purchasing a set, however, one with pots and pans in a variety of sizes will be the most versatile and the most suitable for a range of cooking projects.
A handy item for you to have is a lid for your frying and sautéing pan. While pots usually come with lids, some sets don’t include frying pan lids. A lid for your frying pan will be especially convenient when steaming and simmering food.
If a pan has a lid, I prefer it to be clear. Metal lids work, but at home, I want to see what's happening in the pan without risking losing the heat and moisture already in the pan.
If you have a dishwasher at home, make sure to check if your pan is dishwasher-safe. If it is, this will greatly reduce the time and effort needed to clean your pan.
Depending on the pan, some may not be dishwasher-safe. And even if they are, they may be recommended for hand-washing. You can check if the pans in a set are dishwasher-safe using our "Dishwasher-Safe" filter in the ranking.
If you live in a small space, a set that is easy to store is a must. Sets that allow you to stand your pots and pans on their side for easy access or allow you to remove the handles and stack them are great if you are looking to save on storage space.

The GreenPan’s Valencia Pro Hard Anodized Healthy Ceramic Nonstick 11 Piece Cookware Pots and Pans Set, which won the Good Housekeeping Sustainable Innovation Award in 2023, is covered in a distinctive diamond-infused non-stick ceramic coating.
Included in the set are three sizes of frying pan (8 inches, 9.5 inches, and 11 inches), a 3-quart sauté pan, 2-quart and 3-quart saucepans, and a 5-quart stockpot. The set also includes a lid for the sauté pan, stockpot, and all saucepans, greatly increasing the versatility of this set for a variety of needs. Additionally, each set comes with three protective sheets of different sizes, making it less likely for the surface of each product to get scratched while stacked in storage. The products in this set are also oven-safe up to 425°F.
When testing for non-stick ability, there was no problem with food sticking to the pan after applying six months’ worth of scratches to it. After applying two years' worth of scratches, the eggs we cooked still didn’t stick at all and easily came off the pan. While visible scratches did occur after a while, there were no issues with sticking when using adequate oil in the pan.
The handle of this pan has a rounded bottom, allowing it to easily fit in your hand for ease of use. The heaviest pan in the set weighs a little over 2 pounds, which won’t feel burdensome when holding it.
When cooking pancakes in this pan, there were some less-browned areas around their edges. But, for the most part, they were browned well, indicating uniformity in cooking temperature.
It took about 10 minutes to boil 2 liters of water using a product in this set, which is a bit faster than a kettle. This will allow for a speedy boiling process when cooking pasta.

The Tri-Ply 8-piece Cookware set from Tramontina boasts a three-layer structure that offers even heat distribution. It includes two sizes of sauté pans (8 inches and 10 inches), two saucepans (2 quarts and 3 quarts), and a 5-quart Dutch oven. A key benefit to this set is its variety of sizes, allowing for flexible use depending on the amount and type of food you are cooking. It is oven-safe up to 350°F.
When testing the non-stick ability of the frying pan, we found that after causing six months’ worth of scratches to it, food still didn’t stick when removed from the pan. Even after causing two years’ worth of scratches, the food still didn't stick, and the scratches to the pan were almost unnoticeable.
When cooking pancakes in the frying pan, they were uniformly browned throughout. When the batter was added, the temperature of the pan stayed relatively stable, giving us the impression that the pan provides even heating without significant hot spots.
The handles of the pans are somewhat thin, but the lack of sharp corners and their oval shape prevent them from digging into your palm - a positive feature. The large frying pan weighs a little over 2 pounds, which won’t feel too heavy in your hand.
We definitely recommend this cookware set for those who want to take pride in their culinary technique. Additionally, the pot is also dishwasher-safe, making for easy maintenance.

The Select by Calphalon® Space-Saving Hard-Anodized Nonstick 9-Piece Cookware Set by Calphalon touts durability five times higher than conventional products. This set is also easy to stack, allowing for compact storage.
It includes two different sizes of frying pans (8 inches and 10 inches), a 3-quart sauté pan, a 4-quart deep frying pan, a 2.5-quart saucepan, and a 5-quart Dutch oven. The sauté pan, saucepan, and Dutch oven all have lids. A highlight of this set is its variety of frying pans in different sizes and depths. This can be useful for everything from standard grilling to stir-fries and simmered dishes. It’s also oven-safe up to 400°F.
When testing the non-stick ability of the frying pan, even after six months’ worth of scratches, the food didn’t stick at all when we removed it. After applying two years’ worth of scratches, food still didn’t stick. As long as you are careful when taking food out of the pan, you should have no problems with it sticking. Like other non-stick-coated aluminum pans, this one tends not to show scratches after wear.
The frying pan’s round handle and slip-resistant silicone grip make it easy to use and comfortably fit in your hand. The largest frying pan weighs a little over 2 pounds, which won’t cause fatigue when you’re holding it.
The products in this set are dishwasher-safe, making them easy to clean. With a wide variety of frying pans, this set will be a great asset to those who want to cook a diverse array of dishes.

The Classic Tri-Ply 10-pc Cookware Set by Cuisinart includes two sizes of frying pans (8 inches and 10 inches), a 3.5-quart sauté pan with handles on both sides, 1.5-quart and 3-quart saucepans, and an 8-quart stockpot. With multiple sizes of pan included and lids available for the sauté pan, saucepan, and stockpot, this set appears useful for a variety of cooking styles. It can also withstand up to 500°F, making it ideal for oven cooking.
When testing the non-stick ability of the frying pan, after causing 6 months’ worth of scratches, we were impressed that we could still easily remove food from it. Furthermore, even after two years' worth of scratches, food still came off easily.
In terms of ease of use, the frying pan’s handle is round and comfortably thick, so it will fit well in your hand. The largest frying pan weighs about 2 and a half pounds, which will not cause fatigue when holding it.
On the other hand, when we cooked pancakes in the frying pan, they had a well-browned center but chipped a little and cooked unevenly, depending on where we placed them. The fact that the pancakes cooked unevenly gave this set a slightly lower score.

The Advanced Home 11-Piece Cookware Set is by Anolon, a brand owned by Meyer Corporation. It is PFOA-free and claims a Teflon coating that lasts 16 times longer than conventional cookware sets.
This set includes an 8.5-inch frying pan, a 12-inch frying pan, a 4-quart sauté pan, 1.5-quart, and 3-quart saucepans, and an 8-quart stockpot. Lids are included for all items except for the frying pans. It is also oven-safe up to 400°F. Although there is no small frying pan, the variety of sizes and depths of the pans make this set useful for a variety of cooking styles, from roasting to stir-frying and simmering.
When testing the non-stick ability of the frying pan, even after applying six months’ worth of scratches, food was easily removed. Furthermore, even after two years' worth of scratches, food did not stick at all and could be removed with light force. Scratches were not noticeable, and there should be no problem with food sticking as long as oil is added to the pan.
The frying pan is easy to use since its handle is a smooth, oval shape, and its non-slip grip fits comfortably in your hand. At around 3 pounds, some people may find this pan heavy, but its easy-to-grasp handle should prevent it from being too much of a burden.
When using a product in this set to boil 2 liters of water, it took around 9 minutes and 45 seconds, which is faster than a kettle. This means that you’ll be able to cook quite quickly when simmering food or boiling pasta.

The Cookware Set Plus by Goldilocks has a “three-layer structure” designed for even heat distribution. The edges of its pan are also rounded for easier pouring of liquids.
This set includes two sizes of frying pan (10 inches and 12 inches), 1.5-quart and 3.5-quart saucepans, and an 8-quart stockpot. A benefit to this set is that you can choose the most appropriate size of cookware for the quantity of food you are preparing. It is also safe in ovens up to 550°F.
It had good results when we tested the non-stick ability of the frying pan. Even after applying 6 months’ worth of scratches, food could easily be removed, and it continued to perform well even after two years' worth of scratches.
Pancakes cooked in the frying pan were well-browned in the center, although the edges were a bit light. We also got the impression that this pan distributes heat evenly.
On the other hand, a drawback to this set is the frying pan’s thin handle, which probably won’t fit well in your hand. The larger frying pans weigh a little over 3 pounds and feel heavy to hold, digging into your palm. It might be helpful to use a potholder or cloth when holding these heavier pans.

The Goodful Premium Nonstick Pots and Pans Set consists of PFOA-free frying pans with a diamond-enhanced nonstick coating. It includes two frying pans (8 inches and 10 inches), a 4-quart sauté pan, a 2-quart saucepan, and a 5-quart Dutch oven. Moreover, lids are provided for the sauté pan, saucepan, and Dutch oven, making it a versatile set for various quantities and types of cooking. It’s also oven-safe. The set comes with a lot of accessories, such as a 10-inch griddle, a stainless-steel steamer, a bamboo tuner, a spoon, and more.
When testing it for its non-stick ability, even after applying six months’ worth of scratches, food didn’t stick to the pan at all. Furthermore, even after two years' worth of scratches, food was still easily removed.
The large frying pan is light, weighing about 1 and a half pounds, and its round, thick handle fits comfortably in your hand, making it easy to cook with or to serve food straight out of the pan.
However, when cooking pancakes in the pan, they didn’t brown well and their centers were unevenly cooked, making us think that it doesn’t distribute heat very evenly.
It only took around 10 minutes to boil 2 liters of water using a product in this set, which is faster than a kettle. This will allow you to efficiently simmer food or boil pasta.

Made with five metal layers, the Stainless Sets 6-piece is by the brand Made In. Only one of the frying pans in this set has a non-stick coating.
The set includes a 10-inch non-stick pan, a stainless-steel frying pan, a 2-quart saucepan, and an 8-quart Dutch oven. The set is also oven-safe up to 600°F. There are lids for the saucepan and Dutch oven, but, unfortunately, there are no lids for the frying pans. The frying pans also might not offer much flexibility since they are all the same size despite being made of different materials. This may not be the best if you are looking to regularly cook various quantities and types of food.
The frying pans' handles, despite being slim and not a perfect fit in the hand, have no corners, so they won't dig into your palm. The weight of the largest frying pan is a little under 3 pounds, so it will be easy for you to hold.
The pancakes we made had a nice, even browning in the center and were uniformly cooked. The frying pans also maintained their heat well even when ingredients were added, ensuring a good and even cook.
The stainless-steel items in this set are dishwasher-safe, but the non-stick frying pans are not, so you'll need to hand-wash them.

Founded in 1971, All-Clad boasts the D3 3-Ply Stainless Steel Cookware Set 7 Piece. It features a “three-layer structure,” which is advertised to retain and evenly distribute heat.
The set includes a 10-inch frying pan, a 3-quart sauté pan, a 2-quart saucepan, and a 6-quart Dutch oven. Every item but the frying pan has a lid. It's also designed to be safe in an oven up to 600°F. However, as it does not include a small frying pan, the larger size might be somewhat cumbersome for small tasks like making breakfast.
When testing the pan for its non-stick ability, we found that food had no problem being removed even after applying 6 months’ worth of scratches to it. Impressively, even after 2 years’ worth of scratches, no prominent damage was seen, and food was removed easily.
When making pancakes with this pan, they browned evenly. Since the pan didn’t lose its heat when we added ingredients, it will likely cook your food evenly.
It took 14 minutes to boil 2 liters of water using a product in this set, which is significantly slower than a kettle. So this set may not be suitable when you want to boil food quickly.

Amazon’s own brand AmazonBasics offers the Non-Stick Cookware 8-Piece Set, which is advertised as BPA-free.
The set includes an 8-inch and 10-inch frying pan, 1.5-quart and 2-quart saucepans, and a 3-quart casserole pan. One of its advantages is that it has products of multiple sizes, so you can choose the appropriate size depending on the type of dish you're planning to make or the amount you plan to cook. It's also oven-safe.
When testing the non-stick ability of the pan, even after causing six months’ worth of scratches, food was easily removed. Moreover, even after two years’ worth of scratches, we had no problems removing food.
As for ease of use, the frying pan’s handle has a round shape, with no corners that will dig into your palms. The largest frying pan is very light at around 1 and a half pounds, lessening the burden on your hand even when filled with ingredients and moved around.
It took 10 minutes and 35 seconds to boil 2 liters of water using a product in this set, slightly longer than it takes a kettle. This won't be a big issue, but it's not ideal for those who want to boil or simmer food quickly.

What we loved
What we didn't love
The Carote 11-Piece Nonstick Cookware Set with Detachable Handles is known for its distinctive white finish. Its selling point is the ability to detach its handles and stack its individual pots and pans for storage.
The set includes two frying pan sizes (8 inches and 10 inches), a 4-quart sauté pan, and 2-quart and 2.9-quart saucepans. It also comes with 2 sizes of storage lids for the pots, making it convenient to store them in the fridge. It's also oven-safe up to 480°F. The set also includes removable handles for each product, a silicone turner, and a steamer. While the lids are available in 8-inch and 10-inch sizes and fit all the frying pans, sauté pans, and 2-quart pots, it's unfortunate that they don’t fit the smallest pot.
When testing the frying pan’s non-stick ability, even after applying 6 months’ worth of scratches, food was removed easily. After applying 2 years’ worth of scratches, there were still no issues with food sticking to the pan. Although there were visible scratches after our tests, they didn’t seem to cause any problems as long as the pan was properly oiled before use.
The handle of the frying pan has a gentle curve and no corners, which won’t hurt your hand when holding it. The handles of the pans can be detached easily, but first-time users might need to learn the motion to detach them.
Although the set is dishwasher-safe, due to its uneven heat distribution and slow boiling speed, our overall opinion of it was not great.

The Circulon Symmetry 11-Piece Nonstick Cookware Set features a spiral pattern of bumpy material on its surface. This uneven surface reduces contact with food, preventing it from sticking, as advertised.
The set includes a 10-inch frying pan, a 3-quart sauté pan, 1-quart and 2-quart saucepans, and an 8-quart stockpot. It is also oven-safe up to 400°F. Lids are included for the sauté pan, 2-quart saucepan, and stockpot, but unfortunately, there are no lids provided for the frying pan or 1-quart saucepan. It's also a little inconvenient for simple cooking, such as making breakfast, since there is no small frying pan.
When testing the non-stick ability of the frying pan, food was easily removed even after applying six months’ worth of scratches. After two years’ worth of scratches, the damage was minimal, and food was removed easily.
The frying pan handle is a bit thin, but its slightly rectangular shape with rounded corners fits comfortably in your hand due to its non-slip material. It weighs a little over 2 pounds, making it manageable to handle with one hand.
Pancakes cooked in the pan showed light browning, but their undersides were noticeably undercooked. The pan tended to produce uneven cooking when filled with ingredients, as it struggled to maintain a high heat.

The Carote 10-Piece Nonstick Cookware Set features white handles with a wood grain finish. It’s promoted as being PFOS and PFOA-free.
The set includes two sizes of frying pans (9.5 inches and 11 inches), a 4.5-quart sauté pan, and 2.4-quart and 4.3-quart casserole pans. Lids are included for the sauté pan and casserole pans but not for the frying pans. In addition to the basic set, a steamer and silicon turner are also included, which could be more than some people actually need. Please note that none of the included frying pans or pots are suitable for oven use; they're strictly meant for stove-top cooking.
In terms of non-stick ability, even after applying six months’ worth of scratching, we could remove food from the frying pan easily. While visible scratches did appear, the pan had no problems as long as it was adequately coated in oil.
Due to their handles, the frying pans may feel a bit wide to hold, but their matte texture is comfortable in your hand. Weighing around 2 pounds, they are light and manageable even when only using one hand.
Unfortunately, this set is also not dishwasher-safe and must be hand-washed, which is a bit of a letdown.

Caraway's Cookware Set boasts an abundance of color varieties. Each product’s cooking surface is coated with ceramic.
This set includes a 10.5-inch frying pan, a 4.5-quart sauté pan, a 3-quart saucepan, and a 6.5-quart Dutch oven, with lids included for all but the frying pan. It is also oven-safe up to 550°F and comes with a convenient storage system and lid holder.
In terms of non-stick ability, even after applying six months’ worth of scratches, there was absolutely no difficulty removing food from the pan. Furthermore, even after two years’ worth of scratches, food didn’t stick and was easily removed. Although slight scratches were present after we finished our tests, even ingredients that tended to stick to the pan were easily removed with adequate oil.
The pancakes we cooked in the frying pan had slightly uneven browning in the center, which was unfortunate. Depending on the size of your ingredients, there may be some uneven cooking with this pan.
It took almost 12 minutes to boil 2 liters of water using a product in this set, which is longer than it takes a kettle, so boiling pasta or simmering food in a hurry could prove slightly frustrating. It is also not dishwasher-safe, requiring manual cleaning, which might be another downside to this product.

Groupe SEB's Signature Nonstick Cookware Set 12 Piece is well known for T-fal: the thermo-spot in the center of the pan, which changes to red when it is fully heated.
This set includes two sizes of frying pans (7.75 inches and 11 inches), sauce pans (1 quart and 2 quarts), a 5.5-quart Dutch oven, and a 10.25-inch griddle. It is also oven-safe up to 350°F. While it comes with all necessary frying pans and pots, the set also includes cooking utensils such as a griddle, solid spoon, slotted spoon, and slotted spatula, which may be too much for some people. Unfortunately, there are no lids for the frying pans, though all the saucepans and the Dutch oven have lids.
The frying pans were easy to hold with no sharp edges and a comfortably thick oval shape to the handles. The largest frying pan weighs a little over a pound, which is lightweight and not too cumbersome to hold with one hand.
It took about 9 minutes and 45 seconds to boil 2 liters of water using a product in this set, which is quicker than a kettle, giving us the impression that simmering food and boiling pasta will go smoothly. However, this set is not dishwasher-safe - a point that did not score well in our evaluation.

At mybest, we define the best cookware set as a product that allows for high-quality cooking, comes with all the essentials, and can be used efficiently.
In order to find the best product out there, we gathered 15 top-selling cookware sets from popular manufacturers sold on sites like Amazon, Walmart, and Target. We thoroughly examined each set based on the following six points:
Versatility
Ease of Use (Frying Pan)
Heat Uniformity (Frying Pan)
Ease of Cleaning
Boiling Speed (Pot)
Products we tested
We set the standard for a good non-stick cookware set as "a product that keeps food from sticking to the pan even after two years of use."
We recommend items that allow you to remove fried eggs from the frying pan easily.
Additionally, to simulate both 6 months and 2 years of scratches, we removed fried eggs from the pan after sanding each surface with an electric polisher equipped with a file.
Add 1 teaspoon of oil to the cooking surface of the pan and spread it around with a brush.
Warm the pan to medium heat.
When the contents of the pan reach 356°F, reduce the heat to low, add 1 tablespoon of sugar and add a well-beaten egg mixture.
When the egg is about 80% cooked, start removing it from the pan with a spatula.
For versatility, we set the standard as "an oven-safe product that can be used on a daily basis, causing no waste and with no unnecessary accessories".
The testers checked each product, scoring them on the following points, and assigned them a score based on what they found.
Does the set include three or more sizes of frying pans or sauté pans?
Does it also contain three or more sizes of saucepans, stockpots, or Dutch ovens?
Does it come with lids that fit the frying pans and pots in the set?
Does it include convenient storage items like preservation lids and protective sheets?
Is it oven-safe?
We set the standard for ease of use as "a product that is easy to handle even with one hand, and allows for smooth cooking."
Our testers evaluated each product, rating them according to the criteria below, and converted their findings into a score.
Weight of the Large Frying Pan
Shape of the Handle
Is the handle detachable or not?
We set the standard for heat uniformity as "a product that applies heat evenly to the ingredients in the pan regardless of where in the pan they are placed."
We gave good ratings to pans that browned pancakes evenly.
Add 1 teaspoon of oil to the surface of the pan and spread it around with a brush.
Heat the pan over medium heat.
Once the temperature reaches 356°F, place the pan on a damp cloth to cool until the center temperature becomes 221°F.
Then pour the pancake batter over the entire surface of the pan and heat it on low heat for 3 minutes. After 3 minutes have passed, flip it onto a plate and check the cooked surface.
A product that is easy to clean is defined as "a frying pan or pot that is dishwasher compatible."
Our testers checked each product, scoring them on the following points, and quantifying them based on how strongly they would recommend each product.
Is it dishwasher-safe?
For boiling speed, we set the standard as "a pot that boils water faster than a stainless-steel kettle."
Boil 2 liters of water in the largest pot in the set and measure the time it takes to reach 203°F. A product will be highly rated if it boils faster than the approximate 10 minutes it takes to boil water in a stainless-steel kettle. The faster the boiling, the more we recommend the product and score it accordingly.
When boiling water for two servings of pasta, start by adding 2 liters of water to the pot.
Set the temperature to 59°F.
Heat on medium heat, and measure the time it takes for the water to reach 203°F.
