A nonstick pan is a convenient tool in the kitchen. They’re great to have on hand when you’re cooking foods that tend to stick, such as eggs, pancakes, and fish. Manufacturers like Calphalon, OXO, Carote, and T-fal are known as top brands for nonstick pans, and they feature a range of coatings. But which nonstick pans stand the test of time?
To find out, we collected 12 popular nonstick pans, including the latest products and top-sellers from an assortment of manufacturers, and tested them on three quality measures. Based on our results, we ranked the nonstick pans to help you find the best option for your needs.
At mybest, we define the best nonstick pan as one that remains nonstick even after long use and is easy to cook with. We will also explain what to look for in a nonstick pan, based on our results, so you can use this buying guide as a resource as you shop.

Do nonstick pans cook food evenly? We set out to test the pans on our list by cooking pancakes. The good news? Each nonstick pan heated the batter evenly from the center, resulting in even browning. While some pans heated up faster than others, all the pans browned the pancakes evenly.
Pans that were larger than 12 inches in diameter took longer to heat up, and the outer part of the pancakes was lightly browned. If you're making pancakes for a crowd, we recommend you use a large pan and keep it on low, steady heat for even cooking.
The longevity of a nonstick pan depends on how often you use it, but generally, it lasts for about two to three years. To test the durability of the nonstick pans on our list, we simulated wear and tear equivalent to two years by scratching the coated cooking surface of each pan.
When we tested the 12 nonstick pans by cooking eggs, we found that eggs stuck to the surface of six of the pans. The eggs were harder to get out of some pans than others, and half the pans we tested didn’t really live up to the label “nonstick."
Keep in mind that scraping the nonstick surface with a hard spatula or spoon or cooking at extremely high heat can also cause the coating to deteriorate or peel off.
Also, some coatings become potentially unsafe when they’re heated to extremely high temperatures. Fluororesins such as PTFE and PFA, which are often used as coating materials, can emit harmful gases and chemicals when they exceed 500°F, so we advise you to avoid cooking at high temperatures.
Starting in 2015, all cooking utensils sold in the United States are PFOA-free, which means that no PFOE fluorocarbons are used in the coating, which is a selling point for many companies. However, once the coating of a nonstick pan is damaged, there’s less guarantee of safety. So we recommend that you consider nonstick pans as products that you need to replace every few years for optimum safety and performance.
Here are the points to keep in mind when choosing the best Nonstick Pans.
Our test showed that the easiest nonstick pans to cook with were the "Classic Frypan" by Blue Diamond and the "Granite Stone Nonstick Frying Pan Skillet" by SENSARTE. Below, we will explain in detail why these two products topped our rankings.
Both nonstick pans are lightweight, weighing less than 2 pounds. That’s handy as they’re not too heavy, even when they’re filled with food. In addition, both pans have round handles, so they’re easy to grip. You can hold them comfortably with one hand, allowing you to use your other hand for other tasks.
On the other hand, the nonstick pans that weighed more than 2 or 2.5 pounds were cumbersome to cook with. Some people may find it challenging to use these heavier pans for cooking, serving, and cleanup.
If you're using a nonstick pan to make eggs or pancakes, about 9-10 inches is the optimum size. The larger the pan, the heavier it is, and the longer it takes to heat up.
One of the outstanding features of the top-ranking nonstick pans we tested is the durability of the coating. Even after we simulated two years of wear and tear, the eggs were as easy to remove in pans with high durability as when they were brand new.
With some of the other nonstick pans we tested, some eggs remained, or the egg fell apart as we tried to remove it from the pan. But our top-ranking pans cooked the eggs cleanly, and their coatings lasted even after frequent use.
Another reason we recommend these two nonstick pans is that they’re oven-compatible. If your pan also works in an oven, you can prepare dishes like roast beef or gratin beforehand and then heat them directly in the oven without the need to change pans.
The Blue Diamond brand can withstand ovens up to 600°F, and the SENSARTE brand can handle heat up to 302°F.
Another reason we recommend these pans is you can clean them in a dishwasher. Some pans can only be washed by hand and aren't dishwasher-safe. So if you have a dishwasher at home, look for a nonstick pan that is dishwasher-safe for easy cleanup.

The key feature of Blue Diamond's "Classic Frypan" is the diamond-infused coating. This pan is PFAS- and PFOA-free, and can be heated in ovens and broilers up to 600°F.
When we tested for non-stickiness, even after inflicting half a year's and two years’ worth of damage, this pan still cooked effectively and the eggs came out of the pan easily and kept their form. Although the pan had slight scratches, they did not affect the quality of the cooking, so the durability of the coating was high.
This pan weighs 1.46 pounds, which is light enough for cooks to hold with one hand. The handle is smooth, so it feels good in the hand. Even when you’re busy making breakfast, this pan is easy to use.
When we tested for heat distribution, the pancake had been evenly browned and heated without any hot spots. With this pan, you can beautifully cook ingredients that tend to stick, like eggs and fish, with no worries.

The SENSARTE "Granite Stone Nonstick Frying Pan Skillet" features a wood grain handle. This PFOA-free product is oven-safe up to 302°F.
When we tested for stickiness, even after inflicting half a year's worth and two years' worth of damage, we were able to easily remove the eggs using light force, which was impressive. The eggs didn’t stick at all and came off in one piece. The scratches weren’t visible, and the coating was durable.
At 1.78 pounds, this pan is light enough to hold in one hand. The handle has a rounded bottom, with a matte surface, that feels good in your hand. This pan is also easy to handle, so you can cook meals quickly and efficiently.
When we evaluated heat distribution, this pan produced pancakes with an even brown color that were cooked evenly. This pan is perfect for cooking food that sticks to the pan, so it will help make busy mornings easier.

Tramontina USA's "Tri-Ply Base 10 in Stainless Steel Fry Pan with Nonstick Interior" features aluminum encased by two layers of stainless steel. It is oven-safe up to 450° F, and its exterior is shiny and polished.
When we tested for cooking uniformity, the pancakes were browned evenly. The pan’s handle is a thick oval, so it’s easy to grip due to its lack of corners. However, at 2.02 pounds, this pan is more substantial than other models and might feel heavy to some users when filled with food.
This pan also earned high marks in the test for non-stickiness. The eggs we cooked easily came out of the pan. Even after simulating half a year's worth of scratches, the eggs still didn’t stick to the pan and came out with just a light pull from the edge. Moreover, even after simulating two years of scratches, the impact on the surface was minimal and the eggs still came out of the pan easily. Although this pan might be a little heavy for some users, its coating is highly durable, so it’s a solid choice.

The "Good Grips Pro Frying Pan Skillet" from OXO International, which won BEST IN SHOW at America's Test Kitchen, is oven-safe up to 430°F.
Our testing for cooking uniformity revealed that the pancake had an even sear all over and was thoroughly cooked. The handle has a rounded bottom, so it won't dig into your palm. This pan also weighs in at 1.82 pounds, so it’s easy to handle with one hand.
In testing the resistance to sticking, we didn’t encounter any stickiness with the eggs we cooked, and we were able to remove them with a light pull. Even after inflicting six months' worth of scratches, the eggs still didn’t stick or leave residue in the pan and were as easy to remove as when the pan was new. On the other hand, after two years' worth of scratches, the eggs stuck to the pan slightly. We also observed a faint burn mark on the right side of the pan, but we were still able to remove the eggs cleanly, so the coating is relatively durable.

The "Non Stick Granite Fry Pan" by CAROTE, which stands out for its wood grain handle, is PFOS- and PFOA-free.
Our testing for cooking uniformity resulted in a pancake that was evenly browned and uniformly hot. When it came to cooking convenience, the smooth curved handle fit comfortably in the hand. And at 1.89 pounds, this pan is light enough to carry in one hand.
That said, when we tested for resistance to sticking, even when this pan was new, some food stuck and we had to remove the eggs slowly. After we applied half a year's worth of scratches, the eggs stuck a bit more in the pan, but they didn’t burn, and they were still easy to remove. But when we applied two year's worth of scratches, a portion of the egg about the size of a fingernail stuck to the right side, but the bulk of the egg still peeled off and was hardly affected. While this pan isn’t completely non-stick, the coating is generally durable.

The "D3 Stainless 3-ply Nonstick Fry Pan 4110 NS R2" from Groupe SEB's All-Clad, is designed and assembled entirely within the United States. It features a three-layer structure with aluminum sandwiched between stainless steel layers and is oven-safe up to 500°F.
The pancake we cooked was evenly browned all over, indicating that it had been uniformly heated. On the other hand, the pan’s handle isn’t as user-friendly as some other options. It’s thin and has a dip in the upper part of the handle, which makes it hard to grip. And at 2.20 pounds, it might feel heavy to hold with one hand.
In our test of resistance to sticking, this pan showed no sign of adhesion when brand new, as the eggs could be peeled off easily in one go. When subjected to half a year's worth of scratches, the eggs were slightly harder to remove, but nothing stuck or burned on the pan, and we were able to peel the eggs off much like a sticker. Even with two years' worth of scratches, we could cleanly remove cooked food from the entire surface of this pan. The durability of this pan’s coating is high, but the difficulty of gripping the handle and its weight are drawbacks.

The Ceramic Nonstick Frypan by GREEN PAN from The Cookware Company is a nonstick pan with a PFAS- and PFOA-free ceramic coating. This coating is reinforced with diamond to enhance durability, and it is advertised as oven-proof up to 350°F.
With a diameter of 12 inches, this pan is larger than others on our list, but it still performed well in cooking uniformity. The outside of the pancake was browned, and the color spread in a circle, indicating that the heat was evenly distributed. If you heat this pan slowly over low heat, it cooks uniformly. In terms of ease of cooking, the bottom of the handle is rounded and fits in the palm of your hand. However, at 2.13 pounds, this pan might be difficult to handle with one hand.
In our testing of this pan’s non-stick properties, we were impressed to observe that when the product was new, freshly laid eggs could be gently peeled off the cooking surface. Even after being scratched equivalent to six months of use, the eggs didn’t stick to the pan, and only a slight amount of egg scorched on the scratched section on the right of the pan. Even with scratches equivalent to two years of use, only a piece of egg as small as the tip of a fingernail remained in the pan, so we found the coating to be fairly durable.

You can choose from a rich selection of colors with Caraway Home's "Frying Pan." It features a ceramic coating that does not use PFOA, PTFE, or PFAS, and it is oven-safe up to 550°F.
The pancake we made had an evenly browned surface all around, so the pan appeared to cook evenly. The handle has a smooth, round shape, so it feels good in the palm. However, this pan’s slim profile might not be ideal for people with larger hands. Also, at 2.82 pounds, this pan was heavy to handle with one hand.
In our test for non-stickiness, when the pan was brand new, we didn’t encounter any stickiness and with a gentle shake, the eggs were easy to peel off. When scratched with the equivalent of half a year's worth of wear and tear, the eggs stuck slightly where the pan was scratched, but the egg could be peeled off cleanly. Two years' worth of scratches didn’t alter the performance substantially but left about a fingernail’s worth of egg in the center of the pan. Overall, if you take care of this pan to keep scratching at a minimum and the coating intact, it should last a long time.

The "Professional Aluminum Nonstick Restaurant Fry Pan" from Tramontina USA is a PFOA-free frying pan, compatible with ovens up to 400°F. It comes with a silicone grip on the handle.
When we tested, the pancake had an even sear all over, indicating that it had been heated uniformly. The handle is in a slim oval shape covered with a silicone grip, which prevents slippage, a major selling point. However, this pan weighs 2.02 pounds, which makes it a bit heavy, and we found it difficult to handle with one hand when it's filled with ingredients.
In our test for non-stickiness in a brand-new pan, the eggs could easily be peeled off with a light pull, with absolutely no stickiness. When subjected to the pan to the equivalent of half a year's worth of scratches, we observed slight stickiness on the scratched areas, but we could still remove the eggs cleanly from the cooking surface. However, after the equivalent of two years worth of scratches, we encountered some stickiness and a bit of scorching on the left edge of the pan. If you cook often and decide to buy this pan, we recommend you replace it after about two years of use.

The "Advanced Nonstick Fry Pan" is from Groupe SEB, which is well-known for its T-fal brand. This frying pan features a titanium coating and is oven-safe up to 350°F.
The pancake was somewhat fox-colored on the outside but was evenly cooked from the center to the edges. The handle had a matte texture and a gentle curve at the bottom, which made it easy to grip. With a light weight of 1.68 pounds, this pan was easy to handle with one hand, even when holding ingredients with the other hand.
However, when we tested for stickiness, even when this pan was new, we observed slight adhesion, similar to the sensation of peeling off adhesive tape. After applying half a year's worth of scratches, eggs stuck to the edge, which left residue on the right and left side of the pan. Two years' worth of scratches resulted in the egg tearing if we didn’t peel it off gradually, leaving a portion of the egg on the grilled surface. And when cooking delicate ingredients, this pan proved to be somewhat unreliable.

HexClad's "Hybrid Nonstick Frying Pan" is a triple-layered frying pan with aluminum sandwiched between layers of stainless steel. It is a PFOA-free product, compatible with ovens up to 500°F.
Due to its large size of 12 inches, the outside of the pancake was lightly browned during our testing of this pan, and the heat appeared to spread evenly in a circular pattern. If you warm up this pan slowly over low heat, the heat will be distributed evenly throughout. When it comes to ease of use, the handle has no corners and has a plump shape that fits comfortably in your hand. However, at 3.13 pounds, this pan is more than a pound heavier than some on this list, and you may find it challenging to hold it with one hand.
When we tested this pan for non-stickiness, the surface felt rough, and it was hard to peel eggs off it even when it was brand new. When scratched its surface to simulate half a year's use, this pan produced a suction effect when we tried to pull the egg out of the pan. It ended up splitting with both sides left on the cooking surface. When we scratched the surface to simulate two years' use, the suction effect was still a factor, resulting in the left side of an egg splitting. Although the egg peeled off when we rubbed it lightly with tongs, this pan wasn’t truly non-stick.

The Calphalon "Premier Hard-Anodized Nonstick 10-Inch Fry Pan" boasts a durability that is five times higher than conventional products. It is compatible with ovens up to 450°F.
When we tested for even cooking, we observed that the pancake became lighter towards the outside, but its crispy edges were evenly spread out in a circular manner, so it appeared to have been heated uniformly. The handle doesn't have sharp edges, so it feels good to hold. However, at 2.24 pounds, this pan felt heavy to handle with one hand once the ingredients were added.
When we tested for non-stickiness, we observed a suction effect similar to peeling off old adhesive tape. With the equivalent of half a year's worth of scratches, the egg was hard to peel off and partially stuck to the pan. At two years' worth of scratches, food in this pan is even more likely to stick, and the right half of the egg ends up crumbling. In the end, this pan doesn’t live up to the label “non-stick.”
