Bread machines, or bread makers, allow you to easily prepare delicious baked goods at home. Not only can you bake regular white loaves, but you can also make healthier options, such as whole grain, gluten-free, salt-free, and sugar-free bread. Many well-known brands produce bread makers nowadays, like Zojirushi, Cuisinart, and Hamilton Beach. However, many people may wonder, "Can they really bake tasty bread?" and "Are they easy to use, even for beginners?"
This time, we collected eight popular home bakery products from the latest items and best sellers of each manufacturer and thoroughly inspected them based on four comparison points. We then ranked them from one to eight based on our recommendations.
The best bread machine, as defined by mybest, is a product that allows you to make delicious bread easily at any time. We will also explain the best way to choose a bread maker, discovered through our thorough testing process, so you can use it as a reference while you shop.

There’s nothing like the smell of fresh bread straight from the oven, but that’s not the only draw. Below, we will introduce the key benefits of purchasing a bread maker.
The biggest appeal of bread makers is that they allow you to enjoy freshly baked, delicious bread at home. Freshly baked bread offers an incomparably soft texture, delicious aroma, and a wheaten taste that you’ll never find in store-bought loaves.
There’s also the advantage of being able to choose your own ingredients. Whether you want to make healthier, additive-free bread or gluten-free recipes, bread makers are super versatile. You can even prepare products like jam, yogurt, and pizza dough.
Another great point is that preparation is much easier with a bread machine. When making bread yourself, you need to go through processes such as kneading and fermentation, which both require effort and skill. With a bread machine, you just need to put in the ingredients, press the switch, and wait for it to finish. It's very simple.
Depending on the price of the flour, it costs about $2 to make a loaf of bread in a home machine. On the other hand, you can expect to pay $3 to $5 in the store. While there is an initial cost to purchasing a bread maker, if you eat a lot of bread, making your own will help you save on your grocery bill.
This is particularly the case for large families or households with multiple roommates who go through bread quickly. Made with just a few simple ingredients, it’s definitely worth it in the long run.
Here are the points to keep in mind when choosing the best Bread Machines.
For those wanting to buy the best of the best, our top recommendation for a bread machine is the Home Bakery Virtuoso Plus (model BB-PDC20) by Zojirushi.
Below, we will provide a detailed explanation of why we recommend this product above all of its contenders.
When choosing a bread machine, the most crucial factor is whether it can bake delicious bread, right?
Both the white and whole wheat loaves made with this product were soft and fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside, resulting in the perfect contrast in texture. Plus, not only the white but also the whole wheat bread, which tends to be drier, was super soft. Our testing panel shared many positive comments to back this up, such as "The balance of texture between the outside and inside is great" and "I enjoyed the soft, moist texture."
The type of timer on a bread machine can really make a difference in how easy it is to use. There are two types of settings: one where you set the time you’d like the bread to be done (for example, at 7 am, ready for breakfast) and one that counts down from the desired completion time.
Zojirushi’s machine lets you choose the time you want the bread to be done, saving the hassle of figuring out the math to your desired completion time. There's no chance of making a mistake and ending up with undercooked bread that’s not ready when you want to eat it.
Another charm of this product is its quiet operational noise, allowing it to be set at any time of day. In fact, when measuring the noise level during its loudest function, the kneading process, it was about the same as a household air conditioner at 50.9 dB
With a level this low, the noise from the bread maker shouldn’t disturb your sleep, even if your bedroom is close to the kitchen.
A common concern about larger bread machines is finding space for them. If you have a smaller kitchen, we recommend Zojirushi’s more compact model, the Home Bakery Mini.
Many home baking appliances are very large and may require both hands when moving, which can be an issue if you don't have much countertop or storage space.
This product has a capacity of 1 lb. and the body itself is compact. Since it doesn't take up much space in the kitchen, you won’t have to stress about finding a new place to store it.
The bread baked by this model was also super delicious. Both the white and whole wheat loaves had a soft texture inside, complemented by a perfectly crisp crust.
However, some of our testers did comment that, for the whole wheat bread, a slightly lighter texture would have made it easier to eat. So it can be said that this product’s specialty is baking white loaves more than whole wheat.

Zojirushi's Home Bakery Virtuoso Plus is equipped with two kneading blades for superior results, baking large, 2 lb loaves in the traditional rectangular shape. Better yet, with the rapid course function, you can bake white or whole wheat bread in just 2 hours and 25 minutes.
Both the white and whole wheat bread came out with a soft inside and a crispy crust. The light, fluffy texture was not at all dry, earning high praise from our testers. They noted that "the balance of texture between the inside and outside was very enjoyable" and "it was moist, soft, and easy to eat."
The unique selling point of this product is that you can choose the exact time you want it to finish. There's no need to calculate backward, ensuring no mistakes. While it doesn't come with an automatic ingredient-adding feature, a beep will notify you when to put them in, so this doesn't feel particularly inconvenient.
Plus, the operational noise was recorded as low as 50.9 dB at its maximum, so you’ll be able to set it overnight or at any time of day without worry.
Not only can this product bake delicious bread, but it's also excellent in terms of ease of use. Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, this is a great buy for anyone looking to purchase a bread machine.

The Home Bakery Mini from Zojirushi allows you to customize your bread to your liking, offering a choice of regular, hard, or soft textures. Its capacity is smaller at 1 lb, making it ideal for smaller households.
Just like Zojirushi’s regular-sized machine, the bread baked by this model had the perfect balance of softness on the inside and a crunchy, savory crust. However, some reviewers felt that the whole wheat might be more enjoyable if it was a bit lighter, so its strength seems to lie more in baking white loaves.
With clear buttons for each bread type, it’s easy to use too, even without a manual. However, since you need to set the timer by counting backward from your desired finish time, you’ll have to be careful not to make any calculation errors.
As for the noise, it reached just 49.9 dB during its loudest setting, so it’s unlikely to disturb you if you set it to bake overnight.
With its compact size and 1 lb capacity, we highly recommend this bread maker to anyone hesitant to buy due to a lack of space for placement or storage.

A great feature of this bread maker by Neretva is that you can check on your bread without having to open the lid, thanks to its large window. Plus, it not only bakes bread but can also make jam, yogurt, cakes, and more.
Both the white and whole wheat bread had a uniform color throughout that looked very enticing. Upon eating, they were soft and moist, with no dryness at all. However, the crust of the wheat bread was too soft, lacking a satisfying crunch on the outside.
This machine also scored well overall for ease of use. While you will need to set the timer by counting down from the finish time, the 20 recipe settings are labeled right on the top of the unit, so you can get baking right away.
It’s relatively quiet at 59.5 dB, so it shouldn’t bother you too much while in operation. However, if you're setting it overnight, you may want to place it away from the bedroom.

KBS's Pro Stainless Steel Bread Machine looks great and is operated by an intuitive touch panel. The parts are also dishwasher-safe, and it comes with an array of accessories.
The white bread it baked had an enjoyable texture with a good bite, combining a fluffy yet chewy inside with a crisply toasted crust. However, while the whole wheat loaf had a tasty crust, the interior was hard, and it was difficult to detect the flavor of the wheat.
Scoring well for ease of use, there was one standout feature: the automatic ingredient dispenser. So if you want to experiment with fruit, nuts, or other add-ins, this machine will combine them for you at the optimum time. Also, while there is a need to set the timer in reverse, there shouldn't be too much difficulty because you can set it in precise increments of 10 minutes. The operating noise is 55.2 dB, which is quiet enough not to bother you while sleeping.

This bread maker by Hamilton Beach offers the ability to make not just larger 2 lb loaves but smaller ones too. You can choose from three levels for both the size and crust browning. The bread pan and other parts are all dishwasher-safe, too.
Unfortunately, both the white and whole wheat loaves it baked fell short, lacking the desired moistness and satisfying chew. In particular, the wheat bread crumbled with every bite, making it difficult to eat.
You'll also need to get used to setting the timer by calculating backward from your chosen finish time. On the plus side, since the 17-recipe program menu is displayed right under the screen, it’s simple and beginner-friendly. Also, the operation noise is relatively low, reaching a maximum of 58.4 dB.

The 29-in-1 SMART Bread Machine from KITCHENARM is a super versatile product, with specialized functions for everything from keto and rye bread to pasta dough and sourdough starters. You can even bake loaves using fresh fruit and vegetables.
Despite these promising features, the results for both the basic white and whole wheat loaves were disappointing. The white bread, in particular, seemed undercooked, with an overly soft texture and no outer crispness. If you enjoy a crunchy crust on your bread, we recommend re-baking it in a toaster oven or similar appliance.
On the other hand, it is user-friendly. The extensive recipe options are all displayed on the body of the device, so you won’t have to get the manual out every time. You’ll have to take care to set the countdown timer accurately, though. Finally, this bread baker scored well when testing for quietness, with a low 52.9 dB maximum noise level.

Cuisinart’s Compact Automatic Bread Maker is compact and features an internal light, making it easy to check on your bread during the baking process.
Sadly, the white and whole wheat bread we made both ended up a bit dry, with very little wheat flavor coming through. The inside was also dense, resulting in an overly chewy texture that made it hard to eat.
It scored moderately well in the ease of use tests, featuring a countdown timer that can be set in 10-minute increments for precise adjustments. The operating noise was also relatively low at 56.9 dB, so you should be able to set it overnight without worry.

Elite Gourmet's Programmable Bread Maker is equipped with 19 different recipe options and is available in two colors, black and mint.
As the lowest-ranked product in our selection, this bread maker produced disappointing bakes. Perhaps because the heat was too low, both the white and whole wheat loaves had thin crusts with almost no texture or crunch. Also, the inside was dense, with one tester even commenting that they needed to drink a glass of water to finish the slice.
It does have some redeeming features, however, such as a quiet operational noise of 53.6 dB and its 19-program menu written on the body of the device. But overall, the inability to produce tasty bread is an issue.

We set the standard for a product with a satisfactory operating noise as one that is quiet enough to use at any time of day.
Each bread maker was placed in a soundproof room and operated as usual. During the kneading mode, we measured the operation noise at a position 1 m away from the main unit. We scored the recommendation based on an upper limit of 47 dB, whereby the quieter, the better.
Test equipment: Rion General Noise Meter (NL-27)
Measurement timing: During the kneading mode.
If you want to prolong the life of your freshly baked bread, we recommend storing it in the freezer. The method is simple: just slice the bread to the thickness you prefer, place it in a freezer bag, and freeze it. Frozen bread can be stored up to a maximum of 2-3 months, but since homemade bread does not contain preservatives, it’s best to consume it as soon as possible.
If you're planning to eat it within 3–4 days of baking it, there's no problem with storing it at room temperature. Just be sure to seal it and store it in a dry place. Also, it's better to store it unsliced. This reduces how much surface area is exposed to air, which preserves it for longer.
By storing it in the freezer or a place with low humidity, you can both prevent the occurrence of mold and also stop the bread from losing its moisture and becoming hard.
