Electric kettles are a convenient way to boil water and useful when making tea or instant ramen. However, with various products available from Cosori, Cuisinart, Hamilton Beach, and other companies, it can be hard to tell which ones boil water quickly and safely.
We've compared 12 bestselling electric kettles available online and put them to the test to recommend the best one for you.
We tested each product for the following:
Which product ended up being the best of the best? We'll also tell you how to pick the best electric kettles on your own in our buying guide, so read on for more shopping tips.

The most important thing when choosing an electric kettle is how fast it can boil water. We measured the boiling speed of each kettle to find the ones that can get the job done quickly. We poured a half liter of water into the kettle and measured the time until the power switched off, with lower times being evaluated higher.Test conditionsWater temperature: 77 degrees FahrenheitRoom temperature: 77 degrees Fahrenheit
Safety is another very important factor to consider. We were looking for products that could be touched after use without burning your hand, and ones that have features to prevent fires and accidents. That’s why we tested the safety of each product to find one that poses little risk of burns or accidents whether it's in use or not. The specifics of the test are as follows:Does the surface temperature stay below 113 degrees Fahrenheit after use?Does the handle stay below 113 degrees Fahrenheit?Does it turn off automatically?Does it have a feature to prevent use when the pot is empty?Does it emit steam during use?We measured the temperature of the surface and the handle using a thermal camera.
It’s also important that the kettle is easy to use. In order to find a product that is intuitive to use, we measured the number of steps necessary to boil the water. The fewer steps required, the better.
Another thing to consider is whether or not you can pour the water exactly where you want it. We assembled five testers who use electric kettles regularly and had them attempt to pour water with precision. We looked at the following points for this test:Ease of pouringStabilityWeightAbility to drain fully
When you use something every day, you want to make sure it stays clean. We tested each product to find the ones that made cleaning out water deposits easier. We checked the following factors:Width of openingWhether or not the lid can be completely removed

The main draw of electric kettles is their boiling speed. Boiling water in an electric kettle can reduce your cooking time and make preparing drinks or instant soups much easier. When we compared the boiling time of an electric kettle versus a traditional one, the difference was clear. The electric kettle boiled a half liter of water in two minutes and 12 seconds, while a traditional kettle took four minutes and 10 seconds to do the same. You can save about two minutes by making the switch.
Another appealing thing about electric kettles is that you don’t need to keep an eye on them. The power turns off by itself once it’s finished, so it’s very safe. On the other hand, you need to stay nearby a stove while waiting for your water to boil. This is hard if you want to make some coffee during work or whip up breakfast on a busy morning. If you want to boil water without having to keep an eye on it, an electric kettle is the way to go.
Here are the points to keep in mind when choosing the best Electric Kettles.
When choosing your kettle, make sure to check that the wattage is 1,500 or more, as these products can boil water in less than three minutes. We put a number of products to the test and found that a 1,500-watt electric kettle can boil a half liter of water in two minutes and 14 seconds, while a weaker kettle takes three minutes and 48 seconds to boil the same amount. Based on these results, the choice is clear if you want to cut down on prep time during a busy day.
In addition to boiling time, safety is an important factor to consider. In particular, the kettle will be hot after use, so you have to be careful. We filled each kettle to the maximum and measured the surface temperature after boiling. Those that stayed at 113 degrees Fahrenheit or less didn’t feel hot to the touch, so you don’t have to worry about being burned.
On the other hand, when the surface temperature exceeded 113 degrees, it felt hot instantly when touched, increasing the risk of burns. We found that glass kettles tend to get especially hot, so if you really want a glass kettle for its appearance, keep in mind that it will get really hot after use.
If safety is your priority, check the Safeness score in our rankings and look for one that scored 3.9 or higher.
The minerals in hard water cause deposits on the inside of electric kettles. This is unavoidable, so you need to clean it regularly. You need to stick your hand into the kettle to scrub it down, so you want to make sure it’s big enough to reach into comfortably. We recommend a product with a diameter of three and a half inches or more, as this should be wide enough for most people to get their whole hand in, making it easier to clean.
Conversely, if the diameter is less than three and a half inches, it can be hard to get your hand inside to clean it out. This means you’ll need to use a brush every time you clean it or just let the deposits build up, so there are a lot of downsides.
How easy the kettle is to clean has an effect on how often you can use it and how long it will last, so it’s important to pay attention to how wide the opening is. You can check this under Width in our rankings.
If you really want to keep your electric kettle clean, add a tablespoon of citric acid to the water and bring it to a boil. Let it sit for a while before dumping the water and rinsing it out.
The Breville Variable Temperature Kettle boils water fast, is safe, and is easy to clean. The boiling speed is the main appeal. The water is ready after just two minutes and 14 seconds, so you can save time when cooking or making instant meals.
In addition, the surface temperature stays at 103 degrees Fahrenheit, so you don’t have to worry about burning yourself on it. This is a good choice for households with small children. Its opening is three and a half inches in diameter, so it's hassle-free to clean. It’s easy to get your hand all the way inside and wipe off drops and deposits.
If you’re really concerned with the safety of the product, we recommend one that doesn’t produce steam when used. This is especially good if you live with small children. Children can burn themselves if they accidentally touch an electric kettle that releases steam, but one that doesn’t can help reduce this risk.
Also, the steam can cause mold if it’s close to a wall. A kettle that doesn’t emit any can help you avoid this problem and use it on the kitchen counter, dining room table, in a dorm room, or anywhere else. If you want one of these products, check the Steam Reduction section of our rankings.
If you want to use your kettle primarily for pour-over coffee, we recommend one with a small mouth. This allows you to control how much water you pour and where you pour it, so you don’t water down your coffee. We had five testers participate in an ease of pouring experiment and all five of them gave this type high praise, saying that a small amount of water flowed gradually from the kettle, making it easy to pour. This is especially appealing if you plan to make coffee often.
On the other hand, our testers noted that products with a triangular mouth tend to let a lot of water out at once. This can really weaken your coffee, so these products are better suited for making things like instant ramen and oatmeal.
Kettles weighing less than 35 ounces tend to be easier to control and relatively easy to pour, even if they have a triangle-shaped spout. If you plan to use it mainly for instant soups and ramen while also making coffee from time to time, a kettle with a triangular spout that weighs under 35 ounces might be a good fit for you.
If you are especially particular about the taste of your beverage, we recommend a kettle that allows you to adjust the temperature. For example, the recommended brewing temperature for coffee is 195 degrees Fahrenheit, 200 degrees for black tea, and 175 degrees for green tea. Using water at the appropriate temperature for your beverage can enhance the flavor and aroma, so you can enjoy a pleasant tea-time experience.
An adjustable-temperature kettle is also great if you want to use it to heat up milk for your baby. 158 degrees Fahrenheit will kill bacteria, which is important for babies under two months or ones with weakened immune systems. Let it cool down to body temperature before giving it to your baby.
The Digital Gooseneck Kettle by Cuisinart has a narrow spout that allows you to pour the water exactly where you want and also offers temperature adjustment. It allows you to pour with extreme precision, so you can cover coffee grounds and tea leaves completely. It also allows you to adjust the temperature down to the degree, giving you complete freedom over the heat.
Not only is this product easy to use, but it also has a stylish design that goes well with any kitchen. This is the perfect kettle for any tea or coffee connoisseur, so make sure to check it out if that’s what you’re looking for.

The Variable Temperature Kettle by Breville has a capacity of 70 ounces, a stylish silver design, and five temperature options. With 1,500 watts of power, it can boil a half liter of water in just two minutes and 14 seconds, which made it a standout. You can boil water in an instant, which is great for busy mornings. The thermal camera showed that the surface of the kettle sat at 103 degrees Fahrenheit after boiling water, making it safe to touch without burning your hand. It also has a feature that prevents using it while it’s empty, which helps to prevent fires and other accidents.
We also found this product very easy to use. All you need to do is set the temperature and press the start button, and you’re good to go. It has a large, triangular spout, so the water comes gushing out, but it only weights 35 ounces, so it’s light and easy to control. The opening has a diameter of three and 3/4 inches, so it’s easy to get your hand inside and clean it out. Unfortunately, you can’t take the lid off completely, but it doesn’t really get in the way during cleaning.
This kettle boils water in a flash, is very safe, and has excellent usability. It’s not the best option if you want to pour water precisely, so it may not work well for pour-over coffee, but it's well-suited to cocoa and instant ramen.

This Electric Kettle by Cosori holds 58 ounces and has a simple glass design. It has a blue indicator light while heating up the water, which turns off when it’s done. It has 1,500 watts of power and brings water to a boil in two minutes and 34 seconds. This is faster than most other products, making it great when you’re in a rush in the morning.
Its one-button operation makes it easy to use. It’s light and has a narrow mouth, so anyone can pour it precisely without trouble. With an opening that’s four and a half inches in diameter, you shouldn’t have any trouble getting your hand all the way inside. The lid can’t be taken off, but its simple design makes it easy to wipe off the inside. The one downside is that the unit gets really hot when boiling water, climbing all the way up to 198 degrees Fahrenheit.
It has boil-dry protection, so it does have some minimal safety features, but you have to be careful not to touch the glass after boiling to avoid burns. It boils water quickly, so it does its job as an electric kettle perfectly. This is a great option for people who like the appearance of a glass kettle, but make sure to keep in mind that it gets really hot.

This electric kettle holds 34 ounces and allows you to adjust the temperature one degree at a time. It has a sleek black design. It only has 1,200 watts of power, but can bring the water to a boil in two minutes and 50 seconds, which is relatively fast. The display lets you check the temperature at any time.
The handle is easy to grasp, and the product feels very stable. It’s exceptionally light at just 25 ounces and has a small spout, making it easy to pour it where you want to. This product is great for pour-over coffee. This kettle is also very easy to operate and maintain. Two button presses it all it takes to boil the water, making it simple and intuitive. With a diameter of over three and a half inches, it’s easy to get your hand inside and clear off water droplets with ease.
It produces no steam after use and has boil-dry prevention, but it heats up to 208 degrees Fahrenheit. You have to be careful not to touch anything other than the handle when pouring. This kettle gets the job done quickly and is easy to pour. If you’re looking for one for pour overs, look no further.

Boil time of 500mL (measured value) | 155 seconds |
This 42-ounce kettle by Kitchen Aid is made of stainless steel and looks like a traditional stovetop kettle. It has 1,500 watts of power and boils water in just two minutes and 35 seconds. This is faster than a lot of other products, which can be a huge help during hectic mornings. This product is also notable for its ease of use. You can boil water with the press of a button, so anyone can use it. It has a narrow spout and allows you to pour the water exactly where you want to.
Our only complaint is that it leaves a little to be desired in terms of safety. It does have boil-dry protection, at least, but it reaches a blistering 214 degrees Fahrenheit. You have to be very careful not to touch anything but the handle after boiling. It boils water in a snap and is very easy to use, but the high surface temperature makes it hard to recommend to people with small children. It has an elegant stovetop kettle design, so this is a good choice for people looking for a chic option.

The Beautiful Electric Kettle has a capacity of 58 ounces. It has a gold-plated handle and a touch display on the main unit. It supports 1,500 watts of power and can boil half a liter of water in just two minutes and 44 seconds, which is faster than most. This product can be a real lifesaver for busy mornings. It’s also very safe to use and easy to clean.
The unit doesn’t get very hot after use, and it has boil-dry protection. The opening is five inches in diameter, making it easy to get your hand in there and clean it out. It loses some points in ease of use, as it weighs a heavy 43 ounces. Its weight makes it hard to pour the water with accuracy. In addition, you need to press three buttons to start the boiling process, which can start to feel tedious if you use it every day.
That being said, what it lacks in usability, it makes up for in boiling speed and safety. If you’re looking for a high-capacity kettle, this might be the right choice for you. However, it’s not the best option for making pour-over coffee.

The Zwilling Enfinigy Cool Touch Pro is a 51-ounce electric kettle with a double-walled body that helps preserve heat. It also has a hygienic seamless spout. It completed the boiling test in two minutes and 50 seconds, thanks to its 1,500 watts of power. When all you have is three minutes to spare, this kettle can get the job done.
On top of that, this product is very safe and easy to maintain. The body only reaches 101 degrees Fahrenheit after boiling, which helps prevent burns, and it also has anti-boil-dry features. As for maintenance, you shouldn’t have any trouble getting your hand through its five-and-a-half-inch opening.
On the other hand, it’s not exactly easy to use, especially if you want to pour water over a specific area. It weighs over 35 ounces, making it difficult to control and not ideal for pour-over coffee. When it comes to operation, it takes three button presses to get started, which is a bit more work than we’d like. Despite excelling in terms of speed and safety, the lack of usability is a cause for concern. If you don’t plan to use it for coffee and don’t mind the weight, this could be a good option, though.

Boil time of 500mL (measured value) | 150 seconds |
This 58-ounce electric kettle from Cusinart has a simple silver design and six temperature settings to choose from. With 1,500 watts of power, it passed the boiling speed test easily, getting the job done in just two and a half minutes. This is one of the fastest times we observed for this project, so this is a great option if you don’t have much time to spare in the morning.
It doesn’t lose any points in safety or ease of use, either. It has a safety feature to prevent use while empty and only reaches 107 degrees Fahrenheit after use, so there’s not much of a burn risk. It’s simple and intuitive to operate, as you only need to press two buttons. Where it falls short is when it comes to maintenance, as its opening measured in at a very small three inches. You can’t get your hand all the way inside, so you’ll need a brush to scrub the inside of the kettle. It’s also quite heavy, making it difficult to pour.
Despite its excellent speed and safety ratings, it's hard to recommend this product because of how hard it is to clean. If your hand is less than three inches wide, you’ll be able to reach inside and wipe it down, so we suggest measuring your hand before you decide to buy this one.

This Adjustable Temperature Kettle by OXO has a capacity of 68 ounces and a stylish glass design. You can adjust the temperature by a single degree at a time. This high-powered, 1500-watt kettle brings water to a boil in just two minutes and 12 seconds. This puts it in the top two of the products we tested for this article, so it's perfect when you’re in a rush.
Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end, as it didn’t perform well in the other categories. The glass body absorbs heat and reaches 197 Fahrenheit degrees after use, so you have to be careful not to burn yourself. It weighs over 35 ounces, making it hard to pour accurately and damaging its safety rating. On top of all that, it’s hard to clean due to its small opening, and you have to press three buttons to get it started, making it a bit complicated to operate. You probably want to look elsewhere unless you really want elite speed.

The Electric Tea Kettle by Hamilton Beach has a capacity of 58 ounces, a large triangular spout, and a water window. It uses 1,500 watts of power to boil water in two minutes and 45 seconds. It has a light that lets you know when it’s boiling, making it easy to tell when it’s ready. This kettle should have no trouble getting the job done on a busy morning. It offers one-touch operation and solid safety features as well.
The unit only reaches 112 degrees Fahrenheit after use, so you don’t have to worry about burning yourself when you use it. With that being said, the top is extremely narrow, making it really hard to clean. You can't get your hand inside the kettle, so you’ll need a skinny brush to scrub the inside. This product functions perfectly fine as a kettle with its rapid boiling speed and safety features, so if you don’t mind having to clean it with a brush, it might not be a bad choice.

The Cosmopolitan by Bonavita holds 34 ounces and allows you to adjust the temperature down to the degree. The display can be switched between Fahrenheit and Celsius. The main draw of this product is its weight and narrow spout, making it easy to pour the water where you want to. This makes it a good fit for making coffee.
However, it only has 1,000 watts of power, and a boiling time of three and a half minutes. It also doesn’t let you know when it’s finished, making it hard to know when your water is ready. It doesn’t have boil-dry protection, so it leaves a lot to be desired in the safety department. It also has a narrow opening, making it hard to clean.

Fellow Stagg is a coffee product producer out of Silicon Valley. This 30-ounce Electric Gooseneck Kettle allows you to set the temperature down to a single degree. It’s lightweight and has a narrow spout, making it easy to pour over the desired area with precision. If you’re looking for a good coffee kettle, this might just be the way to go.
However, it only has 1,200 watts of power and takes three minutes and 36 seconds to bring the water to a boil. It also doesn’t alert you when it’s finished, so it’s hard to tell when the water is ready to use. It leaves a lot to be desired in terms of safety and ease of cleaning. It reaches a blistering 211 degrees Fahrenheit after use, putting you at a high risk of burning yourself. It also has a very small opening, so you need to use a slender brush to clean the interior.

This electric kettle by Chefman has a capacity of 61 ounces. It has an elegant glass design and comes with four temperature settings. It’s very easy to use, as it only takes one press of a button to operate, but it doesn’t do well in any other area.
In particular, it only has 1,100 watts of power, so it takes three minutes and 48 seconds to boil water. Not only that, but the unit gets very hot. The opening is only three inches in diameter, making it difficult to wipe water deposits off the inside. You need a slim brush to clean it out, making it a bit of a pain. This is an option for people who are attracted to the glass design, but it falls short in terms of functionality.
